#Goals2

I would say I’m somewhat on track with my goals. I haven’t been as disciplined as I would have liked so far in this class, but my goals of learning my way around the technology, learning to be more competent with it and having some fun whilst doing so has been accomplished to a decent degree. But at the same time, to say I have been on track wouldn’t be true. This being the reality, I would say my goals have changed, or more so rearranged, to being more disciplined with the assignments and work first and learning the skills and having fun will come embedded with that.

I would say I feel better about the course. I still don’t think I’m very good at what the course entails, but I actually glad this a course where learning is prioritized and not just a letter grade. I also like how the assignments and grading truly displays that that is the goal of the course.

The Daily Create 4412

Submit a word to the poem portrait site, let Google take your pic, and see the result. This was the assignment for the daily create.

The above link takes you to the post I made on Mastodon. Or you can just see the uploaded copy below.

I also had to agree for google to take my picture. Since I didn’t know what the picture would be used for a held up a kung fu panda blanket. I thought it would be funny. The word I submitted was panda. It didn’t like hurkle-durkle.

Reflection: DS goals!

I revisited my goals I posted on week one, Im glad to say Im staying on track with them. I have expanded my knowledge with other AI softwares and I find it easy for me to express myself during this course in our assignments. For instance, for last week we had to create a radio bumper and I enjoyed it because I was able to create it how I wanted it to. I find it fun taking this class and Im glad that this class has a community unlike the other online courses I have taken. It makes it easier with having a community cause you can get help in assignments from each other. Im happy with the results I have been making progress in this course.

Where you AT?

Aggressive Technologies logo

I was just thinking about the variety of ways our ds106 Cast of Characters might interact or intersect with Aggressive Technologies. At least two of them work there. That’s a very direct connection. The cast includes several different categories:
Mad genius
Investor
Innovator
Artist
Regulator
Evangelist
Philosopher
Technician

They could be part of Aggressive Technologies, or they could be part of the competition. Or they could relate in completely different ways: customers, vendors, protestors, litigants, investors, investigators, neighbors … etc. Those connections can get pretty tangential. What would it be like to live across the street from one of their data centers?

A while back I read a story about a crypto mine in Channing, Texas, a tiny town whose previous claim to fame was a bit role in the classic 80’s film, Midnight Run. And earlier this week I saw something about people blocking the construction of a data center in Chile. (It just occurred to me that I don’t think I’ve seen anyone bring up the ecological issues about AI. Why is that?)

My point here is that the assignment to define your character’s relationship with the Aggressive Technologies corporation should not be perceived as limiting what you can do with your character, but rather as an opportunity for creativity and connection.

Week 5 Done Already!?!?!?!

This week was very light compared to previous weeks. We only had a total of three blog posts to write this week including the weekly summary. I started my week off by doing my first daily create. This daily create was to just mess around on a third-party website and see what sort of designs you could come up, and my design turned out to be pretty intriguing. The next thing I did this week was create a blog post on how I am doing in terms of reaching my goals for the DS106 course. At the beginning of the course, during week 1, one of our tasks was to create a blog post that detailed the goals we had for this class. This week we got to revisit that idea, we had to write a blog post about how we are doing in terms of reaching those goals. That post will be linked here. Once, I was able to finish these items, I decided to do my next daily create because it was now the next day. This daily create required us to create a sign that has a random rule on it. I thought my rule was pretty random and kind of ironic, because once you read it, you will realize, that orange juice will be on campus at all times because the various on-campus stores and dining halls serve orange juice all day. Once that was all done, I made to set aside some time this week to comment on other people’s work to make sure that their work was being recognized and was getting some positive feedback. My final assignment for this week was to create a video essay that detailed a scene from a movie and do a small film review on that scene. I created a blog post about it located here. That was all of the work that needed to be done this week.

I did not encounter too many issues this week when completing my assignments. I thought things went pretty smoothly this week and I enjoyed doing all of the assignments. From this week, I would say that creating the video essay was my favorite. This is because I found it very interesting how the different aspects of the scene come together to make one final scene and that scenes in movies is much more than just dialogue. The way the characters are acting, looking, being filmed, all come together to make a scene in the movie the way it is. The only issue that I ran into this week would probably be the fact that it was my first time using OpenShot Video Editor, and so it took some time to try and figure out how to use the application and what types of files and buttons I needed to press to make my vision come to reality. Once that was figured out, it was smooth sailing from there.

I definitely think that I accomplished all of the requirements for the assignments for this week and I think I did them to the best of my ability. Like stated before, my favorite assignment was the video essay on the movie scene from the movie Real Steel. I would not do anything differently for the work that I did this week as it was completed with effort, time, and creativeness. I believe that there are no larger issues at hand with my work. I think that the assignments were done properly and with effort. I do not have any further questions at this time for the class. One thing I will focus on in the future, it just to get better at working with and understanding the OpenShot Video Editor just in case I am in need of using it again in the future.

Real Steel!!!

One of the assignments that we needed to do this week was to create a video essay of a scene from an movie related to the field of Artificial Intelligence and talk about the scene itself, almost like a mini film review and instead of doing the whole movie, we had just to pick one scene and talk about that scene. I decided to do a scene from the movie Real Steel in which the main character, played by Hugh Jackman, is walking outside of his motel room and starts walking down a dimmly-lit alleyway and then the scene cuts to him and his robot boxer outside, during the day on the lawn of the motel. I chose this scene because one of the videos that we needed to watch this week talked about how movies use cuts in their scenes to bring more emphasis to the scenes. In this case, the cut at the end of the beginning of the scene where it cuts to them being the lawn shows that a little time has gone by and that the characters were beginning the climax of the scene which was the actual training. It was important to note that from the Tony Zhou video, he stated that film makers use cuts to try and show that the scene is beginning to get to the climax of the scene. This is shown perfectly in this scene because when they cut to the training montage, that is the climax of the scene and that shows that the characters are getting ready to act out the main point of the scene. I have created a full vide essay on this scene and you can find it at the following link.

Week 4 Summary

This week was a big one!!!!

Experimenting with the world of audio was new to me as I’m more into the visual side of things. I like social media a lot, and the most I do with audio is adding songs. So it was nice to do something completely new for once!

I first started off with the moon graffiti assignment. The main thing I remember from this one is being able to visualize and create my own scenes based off of what I was hearing.

I also have my daily creates of the week.

Moving on to the radio bumper assignment, which was my favorite of the week since I got to include an F1 car audio in it.

Now I have some breaking news to share!!!! Wait never mind got too excited, it’s just my assignment bank 🙂

I was truly hungry doing this assignment, that I even made it about food. Except those chewing sounds are thankfully not me!

The last assignment bank was music to my ears (literally). Please listen to my little musical masterpiece

Lastly, I have my brainstorming for radio show ideas.

Hope you all enjoyed reading my posts and had as much fun as I did!

Radio Show Ideas

Let’s not forget Chuckles is an architect! Not only is he into building fascinating sights, but also building connections with others.

Perhaps the radio show could emphasize his career as an architect. Or even be turned into a comedy show type talk to showcase his jokes. Or even a combination of both, where everyone discusses their best work jokes!

Chuckles is easy going and communicate with everyone!

3’s A Band

Assignment Bank: Audio Assignment

Honestly I am proud of my short but mighty musical masterpiece!

Hope you guys like it:

I used Pixabay for all three instrument audios. My musical masterpiece starts off with the saxophone. Then about six seconds in, the tambourine is introduced elevating the music much more. Lastly, we have the addition of the drum.

I will produce the rest once Hollywood signs me 😉
