My Creative Journey: Week 10

Summary

Short summary because most of my experience is already described in the other post about my audio show project. This week was a little crazy because working on a group project completely over the internet can make communicating very complicated and leads to a lot of misunderstandings, but I think it worked out in the end. I don’t fully love how the game show came out, but my expectations for the completed product might have been a little too high for this idea. To read about the entire process and see the complete audio show you can go on my post called Noir Games. Also I had to make 2 Daily Creates this week which can be found on my post called Inside My Creative Mind.

Noir Games

In this futuristic radio game show called Noir Games, Runa is paired up with Max who she clashes with while trying to answer questions because they can’t seem to agree on anything. On the other team is Yohan and Lenore who seem absolutely perfect while suspiciously getting every answer correct as if they are geniuses. As the show goes on, things aren’t what they seem as Runa and Max unveil a secret behind the scenes. Also guest appearance of Dr. Oblivion as the hilariously snarky game show host!

  • Runa [Team 1]
  • Max [Team 1]
  • Yohan [Team 2]
  • Lenore [Team 2]
  • Dr. Oblivion [The host]

Noir Games was inspired by my two old post called Mission: Probably Impossible and Noir Games Ideas. I was in charge of writing the whole script so when writing our dialogue I wanted to make it as entertaining and funny as possible which is why I gave Dr. Oblivion very snarky lines and comebacks to any of the sarcastic comments the other characters were saying. Making sure the storyline and plot twist all added up was very important for making sure the plot made sense in the end which I believe was portrayed well. To make sure we kept the tech-noir theme we asked only futuristic questions in the game show that could possibly be real in the future. The commercial also kept the futuristic approach to stay on the theme.

For my character Runa all her lines were recorded and then separated into various sections on Audacity before being saved on a Google drive that could be shared with the rest of my group. These recordings were later edited in with the rest of the characters: Max, Dr. Oblivion, Lenore, and Yohan, so that the actual scenes could be played out and organized first before the sound effects, background music, intro/outro, radio bumpers, and commercials were added in.

For specifically my radio bumper and commercial it was made using Audacity with sound effects added in and a recording of my voice used for the dialogue. For more information on the process of how I made them you can see my post called Noir Games Intermission. Once the whole radio show was complete we uploaded it on SoundCloud so that it could be shared.

Inside My Creative Mind: Week 10

Doodle to Reality

For this Daily Create I was supposed make a drawing of a cat and the website used ai to turn it into a realistic style. I did a simple drawing of just the cat’s face because I wasn’t sure how a fully body drawing would come out on the website.

Sad Socket

For this Daily Create I was supposed to find a face out of an object. For mine the first one that popped into my head was a socket because as a kid I remember saying how the face always looked so sad and shocked on sockets. I thought it was funny and the perfect example to use.

Ok, Now Is This Thing On?

Radio show week (or really, radio show week two)! Our group could not meet to record episodes together, so instead we focused on creating a cohesive sound with different hosts. I think it went well, scheduling conflicts considered! I recorded my episode directly into Audacity, which made editing a breeze. I added in the show’s intro and then just had to cut out any mistakes I made in favor of the better take. I used the ad I made last week in the middle of the episode to break things up. My episode is embedded here, but for the finished product, please head over to Rebecca’s Radiant Realm!

And, as always, The Daily Creates.

Radio Show Part Two (Audio Boogaloo?)

I think the radio show went as good as it could have gone, overall. Since this is an online class, it made sense that my group’s schedules really did not match up. We realized that with the scheduling difficulties, it made the most sense to just edit together our own episode and then create a cohesive theme and idea across all three episodes. I wish we had gotten the chance to record as a group, just since that would have been more fun, but I had a pretty good time by myself as well! I’ve never edited a show with multiple audios before, and I wish I had the ability to do that with this project. I talked a little bit about it in my daily summary, but the overall editing was not that difficult for me. I used a backing track generated from Frank Sinatra’s Days of Wine and Roses via AIVA, and that was about the most challenging part.

Daily Creates – Flower Bed

Weekly Summary 10

This week was a little lighter on the small assignments and more heavily focused on the podcast. I started off this week like any other week by finishing the Daily Create Week 10. I then commented on some other peoples blogs and asked some questions too!. The next step was completing the radio show. I used Audacity to record my voice reading from my script about news reports in NOVA. This was a kinda of hard process because I had to figure out how to say things to come across as Jack Cross. Then next step of this process was going onto free sounds and getting some car noises to put in the recording to make it really come across as Jack Cross since he is a car guy. Once I finished my part of the podcast we all sent them to one of our most skilled group mates in Audacity. They slowly put it together bit by bit using the radio bumpers, commercials and parts to create out full radio show! The last part was writing my radio show progress report which was pretty easy. Radio Show Progress. All in all this week was very fun and it was cool to see our podcast come to life!
