Noir Games Logo:

Above is a logo I created using Canva to represent the Noir games. At first I struggled with making the colors mesh well, but then I remembered that keeping it consistent and setting a theme would be the best play. Overall i’m happy with how it turned out.

Week Nine Summary

I really enjoyed this week, I felt like it Brough me closer to my character and my ideas were really flowing. I am looking forward to creating the prod cast and everyone bringing their ideas together.

Although I have never worked with any of the people in my group before, we are a really productive team and everyone is able to share ideas and mix them together. We made a lot of progress this week with creating bumpers and commercials as well as creating scripts and getting to know each other characters better. For the update I included a little about the storyline and what’s to come. We met as a group on Monday and have been using google docs and the group chat as a form of communication.

For the radio show design I wanted to use something that represented everyone in the group as well as highlighted the aura we were going for. I think with our podcast we are a space that celebrates women in general there is not one specific characteristic that I wanted to showcase over others.

At the beginning of audio assignment two I internationally wanted to try something new however, I wanted my assignments to actually be used so I decided against waisting time trying to learn new skills. Though this was a tough decision I think it ended up working very well and I was able to develop on skills I already had.

The daily creates for this week were also intriguing, I think my favorite was the keypunch the sound was really satisfying. This week was also grad fair so I have a lot of time to think about graduation which is a little nerve wracking but I have been trying to get through it. I have also been using this time to just think about the future.

Post This Flyer

For my design project for the radio show I decided I wanted to do a collage type of poster.

After brainstorming with my groupmates we decided with this newspaper, scrapbooking look. And I thought this was a great opportunity to use pinterest collaging. I started with a newspaper and added flowers to it on pinterest. I then moved into procreate and found sketches of a broken clock and a dagger. I edited them and added them into the collage. I then added the text of our radio show name and made sure it was legible against the text of the newspaper.

Is This Thing On? Oh, It’s Not Yet?

Radio show week one, let’s go! I started with the audio assignments before jumping in to the design work. I LOVE podcasts, so I took my own swing at making an ad. I find that I like working with audio every time I do it, so I enjoyed this week. After that, I got right in to the second assignment. I altered one of the assignments into the audio bank just slightly so that we could use it as the intro for our show. Gotta love an old crooner.

For my design, I opted to also create the cover/front-facing branding for our show! I really enjoy logo making, so I pounced on that. Not much else to say about the radio show that wasn’t said in my update.

And, as always, the Daily Creates.

Audio Assignments 2

Radio show Bumper

Going into this assignment I was definitely more confident than the first time. I knew what I wanted to do and I knew exactly how to accomplish it. I made this bumper with the intention of it being used mid show as a breathing point that was not too long, but allowed for the radio show to change topic if need be. One if the ember of the group came up with the name and then I just thought about the kind of breaks I have heard on radio stations and used them as a framework. I then went to the website Artlist.io to find copyright free music. I wanted the music to flow with the narrative of the show so it would not distract or bring people out of the experience. I searched through multiple audios and landed on the one I eventually used for this bumper, I felt like it embodied a show with a more layed back element that was welcoming. I recorded my voice first and then mixed it with outside audio in premier pro.

Commercial For Something That Dosen’t exist

As I was looking fro an additional audio assignment to do that might be helpful with the podcast I stubled upon this idea to create a 45 second commerical fro an object that did not exist. My group and I had discussed previously about situations we could incloude in our podcast that were related to the theme of the class and one of them was a girl who think her roommate is a robot because she does not eat. This idea tied in with the begining of the class when talking about the importance of eyes within blade runner, I thought of contact lenses that would enable humans to be able to know who the cyborgs where. I think the idea was pretty funny and I a greate time executing it. I completed it similarly to the bumper however I had to think of various senarios that would result in a person thinking that their friend was a cyborg. Once I came up with a script I used my phones voice memo and recording myself speaking and them I went to Artlist.io and mixed the audios together in premier pro.

Getting Our Show Off the Ground!

I’m looking forward to next week and really getting in to writing, performing, and editing the radio show! This week was sort of odd, as I felt like I should have done more to work done on the final product. However, I think using the audio assignments to make small progress will ultimately be helpful. I’m really excited about the idea that we have for our show, adn just want to work on that! I guess I really don’t know what to write about here!

I talked through a lot of ideas and things with Rebecca, but Ethan really only connected with the rest of the group on Discord towards the end of the week. But now that we’re all on the same page, it should all be good!

Turns Out, Listening to Podcasts Doesn’t Mean Making Cover Art Will Be Easy

For my little bit of design work this week, I created a logo/cover art for our radio show, Days of Crime and Roses. I used Adobe Illustrator for this, and sourced my font off of 1001 Fonts, which isn’t a font site that I’ve used before but I liked the variety! Once I found one that I liked, I ported it in to Illustrator and began working. My base was a paper texture that I duplicated and changed the blending mode on. After that, I continued adding both tech elements like the glitch effect and pixels as well as physical elements like the newspapers and coffee stains. I think this design would work well as a cover image or social media icon, and I think the font is strong enough to act as a general logo! I didn’t want to go for anything too literal, which did make getting started a bit difficult.

Radio Show: Week One

M. Marshall 3.21

Let’s talk about the radio show! To get the ball rolling, my group discussed our characters and what we had previously posted about for our radio shows and our characters. We did a Zoom where we pretty thoroughly discussed different aspects to the radio show like what the idea would be, how to make it cohesive, potential issues, things like that. My group is Emily, Brigid, Sam and me. We talked through things like that we would use Audacity to record, our radio show would be covering news events in different cities in the U.S., I created a Google Drive so that we would have one easy place to access the files we have, and how we would do the commercials. We agreed to try to make the length of our individual shows and the commercial we make total at or under 7 minutes. The math will probably even out to be the shows are about 5-6 minutes and the commercials will be 1-1.5. Overall, I thought it went pretty well and felt like it was a really solid start. We’ve texted about different things like using one of the required audio assignments for this week to make a commercial and I think I am also going to make a new radio bumper. My other radio bumper, while fine, was not really applicable to my character and I would obviously like the radio bumper to be relevant, lol. That’s what I have so far, once the show is completed next week I will likely have lots to say about how that process went. Until then, I hope you enjoyed reading!
