Week 9 Summary

If you saw this assignment posted late, no you didn’t. I got sick and prioritized my computer science work (my major). Even still, I think I made some banger assignments this week. For example:

Daily create 4814, daily create 4815, and daily create 4816.

And now for the main event,

Radio Commercial

Radio Show Intro Featuring Zer0

I enjoyed creating some of these, despite the stress of the week. Hopefully things will settle down more and hopefully my groupmates and I make an awesome radio show that we are proud of.

Radio Show Intro Featuring Zer0

Radio Intro Assignment for Week 9

In all honesty, I don’t even know what a radio intro is, though I tried looking up some examples on YouTube. I collected some free to use audio from Pixabay, made by ByronatorAustralia and Ivan_Luzan. I tried editing them together with other music in Audacity, before messing it up and starting over in OpenShot video editor. I cut the audios and merged them together while adjusting volume for speech. As for the words, I wrote them in a text-to-speech software called Replica Studios. I tried to give my character a voice and found one with a robotic filter. I had it read out the lines separately so I could place them wherever I wanted.

Transcription: “Welcome to ds106 radio in Chicago. We have headlines, alerts, and forecast. Now, back to your host for the weather. And as always, thank you for listening.”

Radio Show Logo

Radio Show Design Assignment for Week 9

This is a logo I designed for the radio show group project based on the Apple Weather App logo. Our radio show is news based and will have a focus on weather. I used the art program Krita to draw it, using many built in tools to achieve what I wanted. I used a watercolor brush to make the background (my original idea was to make stormy clouds) but then I darkened it with a filter and added the cloud and sun with the neon effect to incorporate tech into the logo. A friend of mine helped me to create the neon effect and I ended up using six layers total on neon alone.

Week 9 Summary

While I only had one physical creation this week due to some emergency circumstances that came up, I think we’re at a good point in our preparation for our radio show. I created a promo poster and have been in communication with my group all week; we’ve got some really good ideas and content and my groupmate in charge of the script got a really solid one done. Can’t wait to see what we produce!

Weekly Summary #9: A stitch in time

M. Marshall 3.22

Sometimes I wonder if the titles of my weekly summary are the most creative thing I have on this website. Hopefully everyone appreciates them like I do, otherwise, this is pretty embarrassing.

What did I do this week?

1. Made a post about my radio show progress:

2. My radio show design promo:

(Told you guys I’d incorporate my cat more)

3. Two audio assignments (technically one video assignment I turned into an audio assignment)

That was definitely the most work this week.

4. 3 TDCs!

1. Show a photo of confusion

2. Creative message punch card (Taylor’s version)

3. How do you celebrate St. Patrick’s day?

That’s it for me! Until next week!

Radio Show Intermission

M. Marshall 3.22

I decided to try an intermission, just to add something interesting and additional to the radio show. I incorporated this with my commercial. As a child, I always loved the idea of getting to call into the radio to answer the question, so I thought this would be a good way to do it! Because I struggled with reading out loud the previous one, I found an online voice generator to read out a script I wrote, recorded it on my phone, and then uploaded it to SoundCloud. I think it’s funny, I hope you will too.

Create a commercial!

M. Marshall 3.22

Note: This assignment was originally a video idea, but I only used audio, so I feel that counts as an audio assignment.

I created a commercial for a service that relocates (rich) people to Mars. I wanted to be able to use my commercial for the radio show next week, so I started brainstorming ideas. I thought about the cruise to skip Trump’s second term, and I wondered how that could be applied in a futuristic way. I came up with this idea, hopefully it’s entertaining! I wrote out a short script on my phone and read it and recorded it with Audacity. I definitely recorded each snippet (I think there were 8 snippets in total) 2-5 times because I sometimes choke on my words. Practice makes perfect!

Noir show phase uno

The Noir Game show is coming along nicely the group did an amazing job with creating individual parts that will later make up the whole. We have formed a plan for what we want the project to look like and we are assessing specific roles each individual will be responsible for with in the project, we also agreed that we would use whoever’s work was the best for the specific situation no hard feeling just creating a good product. We have found a successful way to communicate and ideas are being spread around plentifully next week we will focus on editing and collaborating with each other and making all the moving parts form a working machine. Everyone work is so unique and creative and I expect our project to reflect that.
