Weekly Summary: Week 9

This week was mainly focused on the begining of creating our radio shows. I met with my three other group members on Monday over zoom to discuss what our plan was and how we were going to work our show out. I talk more about this on my progress blog post.

The rest of the week was pretty much working on my solo assignments. I started to create my portion of the radio show with scripts for my segment, a commercial, a show flyer, my daily creates, and my two audio assignments.

I wanted my two audio assignments to help me make progress with my portion of the radio show so I chose creating a commercial and creating a news story. I plan to use my commercial as one of the ones my group will be using in our final radio show. I chose the news story assignment because that is basically what are entire show is. Although I still have to come up with another story or two to fill up my 5-7 min slot, this assignment helped me to get a head start. I wrote a news story and had AI read it out. I tried the Colossyan website and was able to create an AI generated presentation from my script but then when I went to download it I had a lot of issues.

Getting Ready for the radio show

This week most of my time went to planning and perfecting things to put into our radio show.

After meeting with the group Monday my job was to create radio bumpers and intermissions. I have improved so much at using audacity to edit and sync audio together.

Starting with the intermission I created, I wanted to make a quick bumper that would catch the listeners attention. I envision this to come on after a commercial and right before the show starts back.

To captivate the listeners I wanted to use a glitchy/siren/static sound effect. I feel like this sound captivates people because it almost sounds like a warning message. This sound also goes with the theme of tech noir and cyber punk so I felt it fit very well.

I used Narakeet to transcribe my script into a cool sounding voice over. I used Freesound to find different glitchy/static sound effects that felt fitting to the show and synced them all together in audacity.

The hardest part with the intermission was lowering the volume of the sound effects so it wasn’t to overpowering. I’m still learning audacity so I had to watch a couple youtube videos to figure out how to lower the volume, but I really like the outcome of the intermission!

For the radio bumper, we agreed as a team that we wanted them to be upbeat and “pop” like, while still being tech noir aesthetic.

I decided to make the background music a little bit more “pop” and upbeat and then for the voice over it sounds a bit more glitchy to connect it with the tech noir side.

I really liked the way this bumper came out. I think it’s kind of catchy which I think is important for radio bumpers.

I used the same tools to create the bumper as I did for the intermission which were, Audacity for editing and syncing, Narakeet for transcribing a script into a voiceover, and Freesound for upbeat sound effects.

The most difficult task in this assignment was really just choosing which voice over I wanted. There are so many choices to choose from on Narakeet, so i listened to multiple voices over and over to see which would fit best in the bumper. Picking my background sound first helped me pick the voice over because I had an idea of what I was going for at this point.

The Promo videoI created was probably the easiest out of all the assignments. I created it on Canva which is probably why it was so easy for me. I’ve become very familiar and comfortable with Canva so, it doesn’t take me too long to get the outcome I want.

The idea behind the promo video I made was that we could use it as promotion on our social media accounts. So I wanted it to have cool captivating graphics, catchy background music, but also short and straight to the point.

I really liked adding all of our group members course character social media accounts at the end. I thought it was a clever way to let the class know which course characters are in this radio show.

The Fearless Femmes have made so much progress on our radio show. We’ve been staying in touch through our group chat and updating each other in our shared google doc on the work we’ve completed. I think our show is gonna turn out super cool and i’m excited to see the outcome. We still have a little bit too finish before we start recording like the outro and solidifying our topics of discussion.

I completed 3 daily creates this week Tuesday – Thursday. I’m really enjoying the creativity of the prompts and I love seeing what everyone else does for their creates. You can check out mine here:

Overall I think it’s been a very successful week in preparing for next weeks radio show. I used my time wisely by using the 2 audio assignments as a way to get started on creating content for our show and I think it worked out great! I’ve never recorded a podcast so I look forward to creating it next week. I’m also so excited to listen to everyone else’s podcasts!

Sincerely, Kristen

What

a

week

Lots of things to get done and not a lot of time and there is still more to do next week. Of course, that is going to be just as time consuming, but I will do my best to work hard. The content this week was just me glaring at Audacity wondering what I was doing wrong and pressing the undo button again. If I could alter it to dark mode perhaps my eyes would hurt less. The light never hurt more after staring at a screen all day do, they bleh. I have been taught if I don’t have anything nice to say just don’t say it so I shall keep my mouth zipped and just grumble under my breath. I am just not a fan of group anything since no one is paying me. I call what I do secretary work yes; I could make and plan everything but why should I? the word group is in the name. I am a control freak with time anxiety not a great combo. Still, I have learned to treat people like they are adults and have learned to take a step back and let it happen. Some time it goes well other times it may not but as long as I can see people are trying it’s all cool.

There has been progress here and there almost everywhere, now tis time for the moon to rise and for me to follow the sun and go down for the night

Prepping for week 9

This week was extremely chill, which like another classmate mentioned in their blog, it kind of gave me anxiety. I read over this weeks plan multiple times to make sure I wasn’t missing anything.

I was able to find my group relatively quickly. We’ve already agreed on a story line for our radio show. Our whole group of characters are Femme Fatales, so we’re going to base our show off of that and talk about random topics as our character.

I’m really excited I feel this will be more difficult then it sounds, but i’m ready for the challenge. We’ve shared contact information and we agreed to meet Monday to talk about the radio show.

One thing I’m excited about is to put a face to some of the blogs i’ve seen. I don’t know a lot of people in this class but everyone’s blogs look so cool so i’m excited to see the person behind the blog.

Here are the three daily creates I decided to do this week. They aren’t super exciting as previous weeks, but I think they’re still worth a look.

I’m super excited to get started on the radio show next week. I’ve never done anything like this so it should be a fun experience. I’m also so excited to see what everyone else comes up with. Everyone is so creative it should be fun to see the finished project of everyones radio show.

I hope you guys enjoyed, see you next week..

Sincerely, Kristen

Week 8 Summary:

Week 8 was about forming our groups for the upcoming radio show project and doing daily creates that challenged our mental creativity. My favorite daily create of the week was getting to colorize a photo in pimpin’ purple using canva, it was harder than I expected and I couldn’t find the car I was looking for but I was able to find something similar. I also really enjoyed the daily create in which we were questioned on what we would want named after us. It made me think about what type of legacy I want to leave on the world and if I would ever be able to do something great enough to join the having something named after me club. The last daily create was fun and simple as I found a picture on X (formally Twitter) that honored pi day in a creative way by baking a pie outlined with the numerical value of pi surrounding the outer rim. I look forward to finishing strong and getting started with the group project, right now we’re working on the beginning phases like scheduling and contact methods.

Daily creates:

Daily create number 1: which was inspired by a Kurt Vonnegut tweet that questioned us on what we would want named after us giving the example of shrapnel being invited by a Englishman with the same name. This reminded my of Henry Ford and his major effect on car industry, with that in mind I decided to take a pinch of his success and would take over dodge and have it named after me.

Daily create number 2: challenged us to pick a color from a list that appeals to us and colorize a photo with it. I decided to do pimpin’ purple and customize a car with it as it reminded me of the character a ‘a pimp named slicked back’ from the boondocks a popular show.

Daily create number 3: The final daily create I did for the week was to honor Pie day (3.14…) and for this post I found a pie someone either created using A.i or baked in honor of pie day on X.

Weekly Summary #8: Rhymes with great

M. Marshall 3.14

Happy Pi Day! That’s kind of fun.

This week was not super stressful for me which I loved, here’s what I did.

I joined a group! The members are me, Emily, Sam, and Brigid. We shared about our characters, talked through some ideas, I think it’s gonna work out well. We’re doing a Zoom meeting in the next few days to really fully flesh out our ideas and work together best. I think it’s gonna be pretty cool!

Daily creates:

#1: Colorize a photo (This was too big to fit so you’ll just have to click on the link)

#2: Something I would name after myself (can you tell I’m bitter?)

#3: My best decision so far.

I know I don’t need to have a goal this week, but can I change the color of the words on this website? I really should visit the DKC again…

That’s all for this week! I’ll be back soon.

Weekly Summary: Week 9

This week I was able to interact with my classmates in a different way than I normally get to. We had to make groups for our radio show groups and come up with ideas or a theme of our show. I only know one person in this class so I reached out to him and he was able to find us two other group members. I emailed each group member to get their numbers and we created a group chat. Once the group chat was made and we went over introductions we started talking about what we thought would be cool for our radio show. We each gave ideas and also went over our individual course character to see what we could branch off of that too. It was fun to interact with people outside of just commenting on their posts or favoriting their daily creates.

Weekly Summary- 3/14

This week was a fairly low radar week compared to others. Coming back from spring break was a bit of a challenge to get reacclimated, but pushed on nonetheless. This week, I reached out in the discord and figured out a group to do the upcoming radio show project, and started to coordinate ideas with them regarding our plans for the show (tune in soon!!). Besides that, did the usual for the week and commented on my classmates different posts, and did 3 daily creates, of which will be included below as always.
