Week 8

Each week I open this class workload expecting to be on my computer for 15 hours plus like what we were doing at the start of the semester. However each time I open it, and I see it is only a couple of things to get done, I get happy. The reason I get happy when I open this class workload is because I have come so far since the beginning to now.

I was honestly thinking about dropping this class, but I am happy that I stayed. This class has been so much fun and creative. I have learned so much about different things like creating videos, sounds, and websites.

This class is everything I wanted, and I am happy that I stayed to see the beauty in this class.

Week eight was so much fun letting my mind and fingers flow onto a word document. We were asking to create a tool that Aggressive Technologies would want to work with and or acquire it. I made mine as a letter style which you are able to read about down below by clicking the picture:

The next assignment we needed to do for the week would be complete three daily creates which by now everyone should know they are my favorite thing about this class.

Halfway Done – Week 8

This week’s major assignment required us find a free AI program, test it out, and determine its capabilities, advantages, and disadvantages.You can find the AI tool I used at Chef GPT. According to the assignment, Aggressive Technologies wants to increase the scope of its AI capabilities. For this reason, Julius Lawrence, my course character, will convince Aggressive Technologies to acquire ChefGPT. The second task for this week was to form our group for the upcoming audio project. Using the names of our course characters, Rishi and I have already formed our group on the Google Spreadsheet called “Julius and Xander Talk!” that was published on Discord. We will talk about AI news and our characters’ own encounters with aggressive technologies in our radio show. As of right now, our group consists of just two individuals, so get in touch if you’d want to join! Next, on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, I completed the daily creates at these links: Sunday’s Daily Create, Monday’s Daily Create, and Tuesday’s Daily Create. This week’s daily creations were fun exercises that let me think creatively and open my thinking. I made some comments on some of my classmates’ work to wrap out the week. All in all, a productive workweek!
I completed the assignments without any problems this week as well. The AI pitch was undoubtedly my favorite project because I always enjoy working with the character. I had the opportunity to investigate a number of AI tools before settling on ChefGPT.
I really wouldn’t alter a thing. I believe I did the best I could on each assignment. At this moment, I have no questions. As of right now, everything is completed accurately thus there aren’t any significant problems with my work.

Week 8 Complete!

This week was very light on the work we needed to complete to be done with our week. I started the week by creating some Daily Creates. The first of which is here: Daily Create #1, the second, Daily Create #2, and the third, Daily Create #3. The first one we had to do had us pick something that goes unnoticed in everyday life and so I chose a pencil and you can read my blog post as to why I chose that. My second daily create asked us to create an image of the first sentence from a book, but add the words, “and then the dragons arrived,” to the end of the sentence and then create an image that represents that sentence. That daily create link is posted above. On Tuesday, I did my final daily create of the week and for this we needed to find a picture and turn it into a scrapbook coloring page. So, I found a really cool picture of a car in the mountains and decided to use that as my picture and once it was turned into a coloring page, I had some fun coloring the different parts in and seeing what I liked and what I could come up with. The next thing we had to do was create a product pitch to Aggressive Technologies about a free AI tool that can be used as a product within their company. I created a blog post about my product located here, but the main premise was that the product that I chose, Colossyan, could be used to create text-to-speech videos. It allowed the user to create various videos and clips that used different backgrounds, music, and avatars to basically create a video for anything. The last thing we needed to do was to create our groups for the Radio Station project that would be happening in Weeks 9 & 10. Once that was done, i did some commenting to round out my work for the week.

I did not encounter too many issues this week when completing my assignments. I thought things went pretty smoothly this week and I enjoyed doing all of the assignments. From this week, I would say that creating the AI pitch was my favorite. This is because I found it very enjoyable to create a pitch for a product that I used multiple times throughout the semester and was finally able to show it off. Once again, I did not encounter any issues this week for any of the assignments.

I definitely think that I accomplished all of the requirements for the assignments for this week and I think I did them to the best of my ability. Like stated before, my favorite assignment was the AI pitch for our course character to Aggressive Technologies. I would not do anything differently for the work that I did this week as it was completed with effort, time, and creativeness. I believe that there are no larger issues at hand with my work. I think that the assignments were done properly and with effort. I do not have any further questions at this time for the class. One thing I will focus on in the future, it just to get better at working with and understanding the Colossyan Video Generator just in case I am in need of using it again in the future.

Week 8 Summary

This was another relatively lighter week just to get us back into the swing of things. First off was the sales pitch to Aggressive Technologies:

I feel as though this assignment’s entire concept went against the moral compass of Hwei, as he is completely opposed to the idea of selling out his ideas to a huge corporation. However, I decided to add more depth to his character by making him realize that he doesn’t have the funds to continue to invent robots, and he needs the cash to continue his master plan.

Daily Create Roundup – Week 8

Here are my daily creates for the week, as usual. More detail within the post itself.

I also took spring break to figure out what I’d like to do for my radio show. I looked through some of the blog posts on radioshowideas, and I stumbled upon Mustafa’s post. His character is a fugitive that is hiding from the government, but has strong opinions on AI and it’s dangerous potentials. Mustafa highlighted how he wanted to create a show about individuals talking about AI technologies, but then having more of the character’s stories and personalities come into the equation to create more of a story driven show with drama. We’re currently thinking about having our two characters interact, but Hwei will get a bit aggressive and try to assert his intellectual dominance, creating tension while Rikaro will slowly unintentionally reveal that he is running from the law. We’ll have to find a third member that can round out our show, but I’m looking forward to what we can create as a team!

For the week overall, I’m proud of how I worked on small things over spring break, and for the first time ever in my DS106 career, I’ve turned my weekly summary in on Monday! Here’s to more good work and less procrastination.

Weekly Summary: Week 7 (DS106)

This was an enjoyable week in DS106. I liked making some propaganda and I have always enjoyed making daily creates. I love to get creative when it comes to the daily creates and this is a way for me to think outside the box and use my imagination some.

The public service announcement was awesome. I liked being able to make this and edit it to my liking. I ran into a few problems when I was done with the project when it came to saving and uploading to WordPress, however after trying to do some different things to try to make it work ended up working. I used iMovie for this assignment and it became much easier to save and upload.

Week 7: Summary

As we conclude this week, I have learned how to produce important propaganda to characterize what one is trying to get across to their viewers.

Creating my three daily creates for this week was an interesting task because it felt that they were different from prior weeks. My reasoning behind this was because they were represented as more of a pure status of imagery.

My Public Service Announcement I think turned out to be the finest work of the semester so far. The use of Jay-Z’s song “Public Service Announcement,” created a great sense of encouragement as well as discipline. iMovie was once again very easy to operate, but I think that is because I run off a Mac.

My propaganda piece was not too much of a challenge for me because I knew exactly how I wanted to not only tie my character’s life into it but also raise a real concern that San Francisco faces. I’m not sure if many of you follow the news but the Bay Area has been plagued over the past few years by an extreme amount of homelessness, which gives another reason for my use of it for the assignment.

To finish off this week, my character’s reaction to my classmate’s propaganda projects was interesting to work on. The piece I chose was fantastic, mad props to “Mustafa’s Thoughts.” Everything about this post I could relate Jonathan to.

Week 7 Summary

This has been a tough two weeks, due to health complications. Strep throat had been causing immense pain in my throat, but after I healed, I got a migraine for the first time in my life. Light has been causing a strain in my brain, but I think I am getting better. This week, I made a propaganda poster I am proud of.

I wanted a something that had a sleek appeal but had a ominous undertone, so I hope it worked.

I also made a PSA using a text-to-speech generator to give a “technological” vibe.

It is sharing how hiring is their priority right now, but there is an urgency for some hidden reason that I will come to explain in the future when I have put more thought into it.

Overall, midterms and my health have been a challenge, so hopefully I can do much more in the upcoming week.

Week 7 Summary

Up first I have my daily creates! This was definitely my favorite collection out of all of the weeks so far. I got to incorporate the sound aspect through the oscillator, AI generated me a very cool image, and I got to post something pure of mine!

Next up Chuckles reacts to some propaganda designs and PSAs.

Then I created my own PSA relating to my character and AI. I choose a background music on there similar to ads on tv like they use when promoting a health care device or something similar. However, in my case I’m promoting AI and humans working together!

Last but most certainly not least, my propaganda design and its connection with my character Charles Chuckles Smith. For this, I did a Keep Calm poster with my own twist on it and by incorporating the best feature of Chuckles – his smile. To end this week off on a good note, keep calm and laugh on – Chuckles.

Where Did Week 7 Go?

Week 7 to me went by super quick. I think only having three assignments played a role in the week flying by. Despite only having 3 assignments I enjoyed this week. The propaganda assignment and the PSA assignment were enjoyable to complete. For the Propaganda assignment I wanted to incorporate Leo Storm. My quote for my poster was ” Believe in Yourself” I wanted to create a poster that would be useful to myself and anyone viewing it. As I explained in my blog Leo had some experience with the quote as he had to do a lot of believing in himself has, he attended Harvard University and had to overcome a lot of adversity, forcing him to doubt himself at times. However, he still believed in himself and that is what ultimately led to his success. I felt a majority of people could relate to this poster as everyone goes through their own struggles and sometimes, we just need that little reminder to get through it. For my PSA assignment I did a simple background of AIs and their pros and cons. As for how I created my audio, I used Audacity, Pixabay, and speechgen.io. My first step was to find some background sound for my PSA announcement, using Pixabay I found a sound a liked. After that I used speechgen.io to create my text to speech of what I wanted my announcement to say. Once both were complete, I uploaded both to Audacity and meshed the two audios together. I’m excited to see what next week has in store. Until next time!

Week 7 Summary

This was a lighter work week, and I really appreciated that as many of my classes had midterms and last minute assignments due.

First thing I completed for the week was a propaganda poster.

Propaganda Design – Do Not Fear the Robot!

Tapping into my research of color usage on posters helped me create something that my course character would advocate for. I went more into detail on the reasoning behind the message in my post.

Public Service Announcement: Coming of the New Civilization – Condemn Aggressive Technologies!

Next was the PSA. This one also related to my course character and allowed me to add a new layer of depth to Hwei as someone who has a messiah complex. I used technology that I explored during the audio week of the semester, and it all meshed nicely into a very convincing audio clip.

Finally, I did my usual weekly commenting and also created a post on how Hwei would react to my classmate’s posts. One of the propaganda poster designs in particular was very relevant to my character, and I wrote a reflection on how it related to my own story.

I’m hoping that maybe I can collaborate with the creator of Isaiah Beacon for the upcoming group project, as I can see both of our characters bouncing off of each other’s ideas in a very natural way.
