Week 1 was a little difficult at first because I have never used any of these resources before to create anything. I have never even tried to create a domain before, so everything was brand new to me but once I understood how to use the resources, I was able to successfully set everything up. With time and the more I use the resources I will learn more about them and get better at using them

Weekly Summary
This week I first starter by reading over the course syllabus to fully understand what this class was going to be about, and what kind of work we are going to do. I wanted to get some sort of grasp on the class so I would be able to organize when assignments are due and when to do them.
The first week task was more of a educational guide on how to use everything. I did not have too much trouble setting everything up, more so worried if I set them up properly. Word press was very new to me so I watched a video to help me understand it more. We also had a meeting with the professor and another classmate to meet each other and talk about the class, I found this very helpful. I also rewatched Blade Runner for my film review and I was happy to do so because it was one of my favorite movies.
Goals
My goals in this class, is to get a better understanding of different types of technologies. This is my first time using wordpress and having a domain and I am exited to fully understand how to use them. I also want to have more of a digital presence with different kinds of media besides photos.
Movie Review
Blade Runner from 1982, directed by Ridley Scott, is a visually captivating and deeply meaningful film that continues to spark deep reflection even many years after its debut. The movie takes place in a deteriorating Los Angeles of 2019 filled with neon lights, capturing the journey of Rick Deckard who is an overworked ex-policeman assigned the duty to chase down renegade artificial humans known as replicants. These replicants show more life and susceptibility than those who made them. The aesthetic style termed “future noir”, mixes dark rain-laden streets with extensive urban ruin which appears both unfamiliar yet unsettlingly believable. The themes of this movie, looking at the moralities surrounding creation, what it means to be human and how delicate life is, have a deep impact. This is especially true when Roy Batty delivers his memorable “Tears in Rain” speech. Whether or not Deckard himself is human leads to unending discussions while the situation faced by replicants brings uncomfortable questions about exploitation and ethics in a world that puts technology above all else. The powerful acting of Hauer combined with Ford’s nuanced depiction of internal struggle gives Blade Runner an invitation for us to think about our humanity which makes it stay relevant as we continue advancing rapidly technologically today.
Weekly Summary 1/16/2025
My first week of ds106 was productive! This is my first DI course, so it was a lot of information to take in, for me! On the second day of class I went to the DKC because I overwhelmed myself with information by going down a syllabus-domain-mastodon-discord-cyberpunk-tech noir – RABBIT HOLE, and I freaked myself out. Luckily for me, Feli from the DKC was fantastic and helped relieve me of any worries that I had. Feli gave me a pretty in-depth explanation of how this class works and showed me around on word press, how to create subdomains, and showed me a few different tools that could be helpful to me in the future.
Overall, I would say the first week was a complete success! I carefully followed the syllabus, went to the DKC, and completed my first 2 blog post.
Week 2, here I come!!!

What would I like to accomplish in DS106?
Three goals I want to achieve:
- Effectively tell a story through my work.
- Use new techniques that will make my content engaging.
- I want to learn more about my creative side. Most courses that I’ve been taking are business related. Some possible skills I’d like to work on: Selecting imagery and music, feeling more comfortable with recording myself, and familiarizing myself with these new online publishing formats.
Week 1 of Digital Storytelling
This class has always piqued my interest, so when I got the opportunity to take it this semester, I was very excited. The most important thing I learned from this week was to not let the volume of tasks intimidate me. At the beginning of the week, the assigned amount caught me off guard, and I was anxious about how to succeed in this class. One by one, I eventually started to cross them off. Some parts took longer than others, but for the most part, they were very easy to complete. The hardest part, and the thing that drove me crazy, was setting up Discord because of technical difficulties. I already had a Discord account for another class I was taking, but when I clicked on the invitation link, it wanted me to set up a new one. Then I forgot which email I was using for my Discord, and it was a longer process than it needed to be. The easiest part was getting to watch an episode of Black Mirror. I had a lot of fun doing that because I’ve been meaning to check out the show and the episode I watched; I really liked it, which was a pleasant surprise. I’m pleased with how the first week went and am happy I didn’t fall too far behind on the assigned tasks.
Thoughts on Tech Noir/Cyber Punk
Tech Noir and Cyber Punk intrigued me because I had never heard of those genres. I’ve heard of some content that falls into those genres but haven’t heard those terms before. On top of being unfamiliar with the names of the genre, I have seen very, very few Tech Noir/Cyber Punk shows, movies, video games, etc. That being said, from what I read, the content sounds interesting, and after watching an episode of Black Mirror, I am definitely open to learning more. I liked reading the Wikipedia article on Cyber Punk, which explained the mood and the setting of Cyber Punk. The way they talked about their location and wanting to emulate “Hong Kong on a bad day” was a great way to describe the setting and gave me a good visualization. Learning about how the term Cyber Punk was coined was also interesting. The name perfectly fits the vibe of the genre. After the readings, I chose to watch Black Mirror from the list of TechNoir/Cyberpunk Media. I’ve always wanted to check it out, and I chose the episode “Joan is Awful” because one of my favorite actresses, Annie Murphy, played the protagonist. I was immediately hooked. I found the episode’s concept so interesting, and how it played out was captivating! When I finished the episode, I immediately recommended it to my friends. Now, I am immensely interested in the genre, and I plan on watching more content in the category!
Goals For This Course
I have always found digital mediums fun to learn more about and practice. Therefore, I feel like I have a little bit of information on a lot of software. However, I would like to expand that knowledge and be able to get good enough at it that I can add the skill to my resume. I would like to be ahead of the game, skill-wise, when I go out into the world looking for a job. Another thing I’m hopeful about is that if I am able to learn and pick up new skills from this class, then it will be easier for me to learn how to use digital software that aren’t in this class. Lastly, because this class’s workload seems out of my comfort zone, I’m hoping it will whip my time management into shape. Currently my ability to manage my time isn’t terrible, it could be worse, but it could definitely be better. Overall, I want to better myself as a CDS student, and I’m excited to see if I will achieve my goals or if they will change!
