Guess Who’s Back? – Weekly Summary

Alright, I’m here. This week I worked on my final project. I had several ideas, one of which I decided to start actually working on.

Part 1: Brainstorming

First, I brainstormed from the prompts we got. The possible projects are a response to AT’s legal team, a wrap-up of our class characters, or a general analysis of the pros and cons of AI. I had a lot of thoughts, but there was one that I felt would be the most fun.

Part 2: The Idea

A few days ago in my English class, a friend and I put characters from some of our readings into a Drag Race simulator. I am a huge Drag Race fan and have been keeping up with season 16. The finale is this week (the day I am posting this, actually).

With AI and Drag Race bouncing around in my head, it was only a matter of time before they collided. The Drag Race Simulator is not a super high-level AI, but the simulator does let you put in stats for each queen so presumably there is some analysis. I think it could be really fun to “test” AI in this type of silly way and would let me talk about AI’s merits without the video feeling too heavy.

Part 3: The Plan

My current plan for the video to put the season 16 queens into the simulator, give them as accurate stats as possible, and see how close the program’s prediction is to the actual season. I already filmed the main simulator section and, without spoiling anything, it certainly made some choices. I am still working on the main script and trying to figure out where some actual analysis of AI should go.

I am very excited to see what this project becomes. It is definitely a loose interpretation of the “AI analysis” assignment but I think still works.

Week of PG-13

This week is all about preparing for the finals which will take place next week. I was happy to hear that we were given two weeks to complete the final project for this class. I am excited to see how my show will turn out but only time will tell.

If you would like to see what my show’s plot is going to be you can click on the button below.

Next, I dove a little bit deeper into the start of the video making. Clicking on the picture will take you that post.

As for the daily creates I decided to opt out this week because I have been doing so much for my other classes and I am starting to feel overwhelmed. Part of me wishes that I did at least one because they are still my favorite thing but I am hoping to do some of them next week.

Weekly Summary 04/19

by Andrew Johnson

Weekly Summary: (Week 13)

This week I have been very stressed in my other classes and having some sort of break from completing work in this class was awesome. As much as I love DS106, a break from the assignments helped a lot. I was able to catch up on a lot of work in other classes. However I still took a dive into planning this final project.

I was able to talk to Andrew Poon and Andrew Johnson about our assignment. We decided it would be best to work together as our radio show was certainly a hit, we might as well run it back! I am really excited to see what we have in store for this final project.

After doing some brainstorming we have come up with a few different ideas. We have not fully decided what we are going to do but aggressive technologies or including our course character would fit well, however we were thinking to branch off into something different and becoming more creative with this final project.

Stay tuned for our final project because it is going to be a good one.

Week 13 – Final Project Progress

This week was pretty easy, just focusing on the final project that’s due next week! I opted out of the optional daily creates to give myself a little break since we’ve been doing them all semester long.

My thought process for this project is to make it interactive, incorporate various digital media tools, and discuss more about AI.

Here’s a breakdown of the project that I hope to follow through with:

Tools: Canva, Audacity, GoogleForms, SoundCloud, Pinterest, Pixabay, YouTube, and potentially more.

Topic/Discussion: I want the main focus of my final project to be on some of the Pros and Cons of AI.

Pros: innovation, efficiency

Cons: ethical concerns, job displacement

Plan: I will be incorporating video clips, images, sounds, and voiceovers to discuss AI throughout my video. First it will begin with a brief description of AI then move onto the pros and cons. For the interactive aspect, I will incorporate a GoogleForm in there where viewers/listeners can give their opinion. Lastly, I will end in a conclusion to wrap everything together.

That’s kind of my outline/plan for the project and hopefully everything goes smoothly. Currently, I’m just gathering data for it and what I want to use in the video.

Would love to hear some feedback and opinions on this! Hope everyone had a great week, can’t wait to see everyone’s final project next week!

Weekly Summary/ Final project

I spent this week really thinking about what I wanted my final project to be about and what it would look like. I figured out that I wanted to go with option number three and that encompasses what the pros and cons are of using AI in this course and what we can ultimately do with it and how it felt to use AI throughout this course. I am excited to go with this topic because before taking this course I didn’t have much knowledge on AI platforms and now that’s completely different since a lot of the course work, we have had to do was to include AI. In regard to the actual formatting and what I want for the project I know I want to create a final video because I have really enjoyed doing video work. I am going to continue using the platform canvas and I plan on using AI apps to help with voice over, animation, text, and character as well. I know the point of this post is to have a detailed outline of what the looks like but to be honest 9/10 Ill have a outline and then when I am actually creating, I end up going with something different because I’m just letting the creative juices flow which is one of the main goals I had with this course was to tap into my creativity. So I am going to do just that with the final project I am going to tap into my creativity when I create this video and I will be sure that it encompasses everything we have learned this far as well as making sure the topic is appropriately covered.

Weekly Summery 13

I really enjoyed the daily create for Monday.

Alright after the sculpture business I got to messaging my group. Ravioli Radio is not doing a second production. Those that wanted to work in a group again got most of the band back together. Just like any reunion we even grabbed a new member. We discussed some ideas on discord and came up with an idea. A news broadcast. We can all make what we like to do and what we feel we are best at. It will start with a news anchor starting the nightly news. The different segments will be made by different group members. Destiny and I want to do the final edit and put everyone’s work together. I want the broadcast to highlight the starting of the AI uprising. Everyone in the group gets to make their content with their own slant and ideas. It will have variety. We have a google doc with our outline of the show, content ideas, and what people are working on. Destiny and I want to start putting it together Thursday and the project is due Friday. I am excited to see what everyone makes. I am working with some creative people again so it should be great. It is a busy time at the end of the semester and one team member is getting over the flu. Curve balls are already being thrown. I will try to check back in with progress in a few days.

Weekly Summary 13:

Final Project Idea: Part Deux

So, like I said, I am going to take my time with this project, so I am exploring a lot of options. As I said in my post earlier this week, I think I want to do sort of a reflection on the course and provide commentary on the things I have learned and how it made me think and feel.

I have determined that doing a video for each point I go over would be an insane amount of work that I could not easily finish by the due date. So, I have settled on providing pictures or embedded examples or links to articles that apply to the post.

I think my overall format will go into each assignment or series of assignments we did each week and what I learned and how it applied to the theme of AI. I will also provide commentary on how I feel about AI and the future that each implies or could be for each assignment.

I think this would provide the best overview of my experience with the course, how it made me think about the possibilities and ramifications of AI, and then I think I will round it out with my experience as a whole. I think doing this as a final project fits the overall meta theme of the course which is “you get out of it what you put into it”. This was a very unconventional experience for me, and I think providing whole honest feedback could be beneficial not only for my own reflection, but for future students.

I pre-emptively give permission to use my feedback and experience to show others what this course can do for you and how fun it can really be. I mean, that is presuming my post is even good…. Anyway, this is what I have landed on, now to start writing my extended course review and reflection.

Daily Create Week 13:

Picnics at home are special. In all honesty, it doesn’t happen too often, I’ll plan another one after the semester!
