Week 13 Summary

This week’s assignment was to just plan out our final project and document progress on it. I had a lot of work piled up for this week and I wasn’t able to start putting the video together, but I’ve done a good amount of brainstorming about the idea I would like to delve into.

For my final project, I would like to deviate away from my course character idea and make a video essay. I’ve always been an enjoyer of video essays on a variety of topics from sports to video games. Planning out a script and analyzing the pros and cons of AI appeals to me as something I would make myself if I ran a YouTube channel.

I’m envisioning a 5-8 minute video with a variety of graphics on screen, different backtracks based on the topic at hand, as well as segments of me talking on camera to bring a more human aspect into the project. I still need to think more about which aspects of the analysis I would like to hone in on, but I’m most likely going to talk a lot about how AI is too powerful in the scope of college assignments, ranging from Daily Creates and other DS106 assignments, as well as some insight into the problems of AI in Computer Science courses as well.

The Flu – Week 13 Summary – 4/12-4/19

Nothing could have prepared me for how I felt this week. I woke up Sunday sick because my sister was sick (and then my brother and then my sister in law and then my sister’s boyfriend and then my grandma and then my grandpa . . . like it never stopped it was a terrible domino effect of people getting sick) and so I had to cancel work, and then it just kept getting worse and worse . . . I have been in bed literally all week and that’s all I’ve done. I’ve missed all of my classes and this is so unlike me but guess whaaaaat my whole family has the flu!

The flu is not fun . . . I’ve felt miserable and half alive this entire week. So, because of that, there really is nothing to say during this weekly summary. There isn’t even a song for the week because I didn’t play music once, I just rotted in my bed and watched Impractical Jokers and drank water until I exploded.

But, here is my progress update for the final project!

I talked about it in the post, but I plan to be working on my parts of project this weekend, as I’m now finally feeling better and less dead! As for where we’re going, I’m excited to be working on this with my group. We all have some cool ideas and I’m excited to see what it all looks like put together.

Otherwise, that’s all for my weekly summary, because I really didn’t do much this week outside of getting on our document and adding like a sentence every other day and apologizing in the group chat for being ill (they understand and sympathize, so I’m not beat up over it)

Thank you for tuning in!

Final Project Progress

For my final project I plan to include a robot uprising and my character Dr. Ravioli. My project will be video based and will start with a weather report on the news that is interrupted by rogue AI explaining to the world that they have achieved superior intelligence and will start to take over the human world. The AI interruption will then be interrupted by Dr. Ravioli and he will talk to the public and try to sooth everyone explaining that he has it under control and that no one should freak out. Dr. Ravioli leaves and puts the weather channel back on where the reporter will be surprised as cut to commercials. I am not completely sure how I will make the commercials but I already have the first half of this video taken care of. I am using a photo generated image of Dr. Ravioli and adding lips to him to see if Wav2Lip will work with his dialogue. I am very excited to see how this turns out and finish it.

The Uprising of AI – Progress Update

Hey everyone!! It feels really weird only having one post this week outside of the weekly summary, but here we are!

This week, I’ve gotten in a group with Greta, Sarah, Leila, and Sol for the final project. We’re going to be creating a sort of compliation of breaking news and sources that are telling the chaos of an AI uprising. It’s really interesting!!

As of right now, we have a document and a group chat that we’ve been talking in. We’ve laid out our plans and ideas, and we all put down what we individually can do. For me, I’m planning on creating some AI propaganda posters, make little info TikTok videos about what’s going on, and create a bunch of headlines that we can use. I’ll probably end up doing some more, but I haven’t had time to work this week for reasons that I will get into during the Weekly Summary. Everyone else also has created lists of what they plan to do, so we are all organized and planned out that way, we just have to get some work done.

Sarah offered to edit it all together, but I thought it’d be nice if I helped edit it together, too, like her and I did for the audio project. Thursday is the day we want to have everything done so we can edit it together then. This weekend, I plan to work on my part.

Week Before the Last Summary

Pretty easy week for this class, but again not one overall school and life wise. I enjoyed having this week to just incrementally work and brainstorm on the project. I pulled a few videos and clips and wrote one idea of what I think I want to say in the commercial. I also looked for software’s to deepfake and some tutorials. Over the weekend I will probably dive more into the script then next week what it’s going to look like more. The most work will get done next Tuesday-Wednesday probably. I’m going to do my best and that’s all I can ask for from myself. Weekly work below:

Final Project Brainstorming

The final was hard for me to decide on what to do for a few reasons. First is mainly my ability and competency with technology in the way of creation. This has definitely been one of the more difficult classes for me, just as when I attempted to take computer science 101 (which I ended up dropping lol). Second would be time, I am a senior and, in my case, work has piled up instead of decreased, and that’s just school. Third would just be because I have a lot of ideas I want to do. But I decided to just start one so I would feel like I had some direction and wasn’t tossed up trying to figure out what the hell to do. Therefore, to make the best decision out if those three reasons I listed, I am leaning on choosing to do an extension of what I spoke about in the radio show with Iron Man and Ultron. I think I want to make a commercial about the threats of AI takeover with Robert Downey Jr and some sort of deepfake to show some fear that because of AI we may never be able to trust what we see on technology screens ever again. I see the potential in it, I just hope I can bring it to life, like they did Ultron.

Scenes from the whale rapture

The other week one AI said that the internet was like “diving into a vast digital ocean where you can swim with majestic whales of knowledge or get caught in the undertow of clickbait and cat memes” and I asked another to visualize that metaphor. One of my colleagues was so enamored of the image that she asked it for a few more. This was the first of the collection that I saw:

It looks like there should be a story to go with the image. That might even be a good idea for a daily create. You could probably do that with any of them. Take this one:

I see a whale rapture while the planet bursts at its seams. It’s like an alternate version of Star Trek 4

And then there’s the cat riding the steampunk whale:

I wonder if he’s related to Dr. Ravioli? He looks like he might know everything too.

Final Project: Middle Line

Click on picture to be directed to the YouTube video I will be using.

The YouTube video is in color, but I changed by putting it into Clipchamp and clicking on the black and white filter. I would like my video to be blacker, but I will work on the look of the video next week.

I will be using this video for its visual content, but I will also be looking for some pop-ups jump scares to add to this video. I have already split up my video and took out the parts I did not want to use.

There is a male talking throughout this video and he will be my character, “Josh.” But a cleaner looking version of him. I will use the videos of him, and I will type up a script for him to say. My focus early next week (or tomorrow) is the script and making “Josh” say his script as well as finding some good scary sounds to use. Then at the end I will put everything together.

Signing into a Show: Final Project

Outline-

I will be creating a show that hopefully will be on the longer side because I really want to showcase everything that I have learned. However, I was having difficulty trying to find a theme for the show. I have been thinking nonstop for about 4 days and I needed some inspiration.

I know from past experience that we cannot use animation to make people talk which is okay. I was thinking of finding something that will keep you on your toes while watching but without having a lot of talking but more sounds instead. I ended up going on google to try to help me find a theme or plot for my show. On robinpiree I was able to find this:

Secrets of the Old Manor: An estranged family inherits an old manor, leading to the discovery of hidden passages, secret rooms, and a haunting mystery from their lineage.”

This gave me a huge idea! What about a tour of an old house? It would be PERFECT! The reason I say this is because it would be in black in white film so it solves my issue of “what if the colors do not line up” and it solves my issue with having someone to talk that will look apart of the show because again, it is black and white.

An old house will have creaks, water dripping, maybe wind if a window is open. It is pretty much an open book for the sounds I could use. Also, I will make it a scary vibe with certain kinds of music.

My plot (if everything goes right) is to have maybe a husband and wife move into an old house and they realize there is more to the house than what they believed when they bought it.

The prompt I will trying to achieve is:

“Characters and Aggressive Technologies. Bring some of the story threads the class has developed over the past several weeks to a conclusion. You might build upon the radio show project or go in a different direction. This concept has good potential for collaboration because you could develop intersecting or interrelated storylines and work remotely and asynchronously. It would be interesting to see how many stories we could get to intersect, or even connect tangentially.”
