Assignment Bank: Sick beat – Making the Logic Pod Intro

"Make a sick beat, using whatever you can find on freesounds.org, and whatever you can record around you! I don’t care how long it is, just get groovy dood."

I bent this audio assignment a little bit to meet our needs for the podcast. I decided to go on freesound.org to find a suitable introduction song to our podcast. Actually, as we’re still in the process of splicing things together and deciding on which audio files would work for each scenario, I think that this may end up being a transition of some sort. There are a few other audio clips from the website that we have in mind but we won’t know for sure which ones to use until the rest of our show is structured.

I think this sound in particular has a very tech-y sound signature to it, and it’s almost stereotypically high tech with the synths and chords that go into it. We’ll see where this goes in our show, but I’m glad to have one piece of audio that would suit many aspects of our show.

Radio Show Design Project – Lots of Brains in this Talk!

For my design for our radio show, I decided to do a show poster / logo that would compliment our topic.

Logic Pod: The Tech Podium is our podcast name. A lot of our initial discussion for our show was about how intellectually sophisticated our characters were. This made us think of a brain as a visual implication of intelligence, which is sort of ironic when all of our characters are talking about AI in some way, which does not function with a physical brain. The “logical” side of the equation is shown by the brain, while it is supported by a microphone stand. The overall background color green allows for the pink brain to pop, and I think that it looks aesthetically pleasing.

I used a website called Brand Crowd to enter the title, and the AI seemingly worked it’s magic and gave me hundreds of pages of logo ideas. I initially attempted to design one myself, but I got frustrated trying to use my nonexistent web design skills and leaned towards using a tool instead. Despite using AI, I think this logo looks quite nifty and is very fitting for our show.

Daily Create Roundup: Week 9

Here are my daily creates for week 9!

This first one was an AI generated photo of Mona Lisa if she was drawn in 2020 during the Covid era. Putting a modern spin onto this historical painting is kinda hilarious now that I look at it.

Next was to use the bead art tool website to turn any image of my choosing into bead art. I like how the city picture I used turned very linear. Some of the buildings look like they’re spelling out a word, like in the far left where the number 8 looks like it’s drawn.

The last create of the week was to upload my interpretation of “Agent 106”. I drew inspiration from the game Valorant and used the agent Cypher as my rendition of Agent 106. The use of cameras and other tech tools makes Cypher somewhat of a media enthusiast himself.

Having a Great Team Makes All the Difference

My group has made a lot of progress this week on our show. We have a group google doc where we write our more elaborate ideas and take notes, we have a group discord to post pictures and smaller ideas, and we have had a few discussions and even have a txt group to make sure we are all engaging with the project. It is working magnificently.

We already have a name for our show “Logic Pod: The Tech Podium”. The idea is that this show is a platform for people to call in and talk tech, AI, or anything their hear desires. But be careful, there is something strange about the hosts and guests. Some of them may not be what they seem.

Currently the plan is to have the show be owned/operated by one of our character’s organizations and have my character call in to promote his AI rights activist group. This will lead the conversation into some cool places and interesting discussion. But maybe something will be revealed about some characters or maybe others will change their stance on some things. We are still in the planning process of what the actual conversation will be like, but we have the backbone ideas in place.

We have also created some cool logo/poster/sticker designs for the show. Here is the post about mine.

I think we plan to use our DS106 bumpers from earlier in the semester, but I also feel like making one for our specific show. I have some ideas that I think will be fun. I also think I will make a commercial from the product I had to write about last week for Aggressive Technologies. Ill knock those out tomorrow while teleworking.

I just want to put at the end here, this might be one of the better groups of people I have worked with during my career, and I have been working in the government, military, and private sector for almost 15 years. Robin, Melea, and Mustafa, you rock.

Logic Pod: The Tech Podium Promo

So, for the radio show promo I wanted to make the logo or a bumper sticker or something that could get the point of the show across in on quick glance. The first thing we had to do was come up with the show name, and based on our characters motivations we dialed it into a podcast format about discussing AI and tech etc. with people calling in to discuss their viewpoints or promote their ides. With all of our characters being pro AI for the most part, we assumed that they would all think their view is correct, so their podcast is “logical” to listen to. Then to describe what it is about, we went with tech, and with the call-in aspect, it is like a singular outside entity speaking to the group, almost like from a podium. At least that what was in my head when we nailed down the name.

Moving on… So, for the design I wanted to capture the title of the show and have some interesting graphics to give some energy to the show. My initial idea was to just have a brain standing behind a podium with the title. But as I was using Canva to make my graphic, I came across some really cool designs and changed it up a bit. This is the final product I came up with.

My absolute favorite part of this design is the tech tree. Just has this eerie implication that tech is going to take over nature… strange. And of course, talking about AI and the neon sign effects, I think it really captures the vibe of the show.

Anyway, I had a blast making this and I might even make a few more just for fun.

Creating the promo poster was the most fun of the week. Before uploading a Google image into Adobe Firefly, I attempted to AI generate an image of a dark-haired woman in a recording studio with an orange cat in the room. The generated imaged were not my vision for the poster and were cartoonish. It worked better to edit an image that I liked, by typing in separate commands to add elements Radio A.T. The audio assignments are fun to do, when all goes well, and I like it when my thoughts are organized about sequence. It took a chunk of time Tuesday night, but I figured out how to change the dashboard display panel, then I shut it down. When I re-opened it, I was back in business.

📻Bumper Wk 9:

Radio Bumpers are straight forward and a good marketing announcement for the ds106 station. I thought about what words should be conveyed in a bumper and how I might bring excitement to the listener. Have you ever pondered if listening to the radio is very different from reading a book? We want to take our minds to a different place, for peace and a little distraction from our own thoughts.

I wrote the text and had www.elevenlabs.com give it a voice. I then downloaded the mp3. On www.freesound.com, I found music that I like Freesound – Melody loop by DaveJf. I combined the two elements in layers on Premiere Pro and exported as a MP3 for www.soundcloud.com.

Week 9 TDC… Kurt is my Dude

This week we had to do 3 daily creates. Two of them were word based which was different than the last 2 weeks… I think… idk my weeks are blending at this point. Anyway, here are my posts.

The first one was to post who we think is agent 106, you know like 007, but 106 for the class number. Anyway, there is only one option when picking something like this and here it is:

Next one was to finish the tweet. This one was interesting because it could have gone any direction. Here is my post.

The last one was pretty meaningful, so I wanted to find one that was in North America to shed light on dying cultures in our borders. The last one this week was to post about poetry from dying languages. I chose to do the language of the Delaware Native Americans, the Lenape.

So overall this week for TDC as good. I learned a lot about dying languages and got to give a shout out to my main man Kurt.

Groupie Experience🫂:

For days we did ping pong messages on Discord and on Thursday, we had a Zoom meeting. This kitty cat radio show is coming together, and we have a 6-page Google doc plan. All of us have good energy and are fully engaged to produce a radio talk show that shows our individual efforts and strengths.

Last week, my Intro to Digital Studies class, had a field trip to Seacobeck and we wore VR googles and went to cool places. I went snow skiing and really felt it in my stomach! They have new, cool podcasting equipment in a room down there. If your group wants to reserve that, talk to the director in that department during regular business hours and they will approve the use of it, for a school assignment. Mikey, a computer science major, helped us and I recommend his generous assistance to navigate the complex equipment.

Aggressive Posters and Bumpers – Radio Show Design

This week I did some designing for Aggressive Testimonials, my group’s radio show. I designed a radio bumper and a poster. This post will mostly discuss the poster since I made another post detailing my process making the radio bumper.

I made the poster in Canva using my propaganda poster from a few weeks ago. I used the same AI generated robot, color scheme, and fonts. I generated a microphone using CrAIyon. I then removed the background using PhotoPea and changed the color scheme in Canva.

I think the design is very simple but functional. I like the consistency with the propaganda poster. Repeating the same aesthetic gives Aggressive Technologies a specific brand.
