Sol’s Business Card – Design Assignment

Have you ever wanted to hire a professional artist? Maybe one who paints the sky? Maybe one who isn’t really human but has a passion for telling humans’s stories? Well don’t you worry, I have a business card just for you from a good friend of mine if you’re interested in hiring them.

I’m sure they would love to paint up the sky for you 🙂

For my Design Assignment, I followed this design prompt:

We’re reaching a time in our lives where where professionalism is key. Use photoshop to create your own business card to advertise who you are.

Well, I didn’t use Photoshop, mostly because I have no idea if we get Photoshop with our school accounts, and I definitely don’t have Photoshop, so instead, I used everyone’s favorite free, online alternative: CANVA!!

I had essentially a few ideas: I needed this to look like a painting and it HAD to be associated with the sky. I mean, that’s Sol’s whole purpose: paint the sky, tell the stories. That’s really all you have to get! It’s that simple. I also wanted it to be coherent and use the same colors, so I grabbed colors from the image I grabbed from Canva of the sky painting, and used those colors for the text. I also didn’t want it to be overwhelmed with text, because I thought the painting should be the main focus, as that’s what Sol does.

I actually kind of like this! I think I would like to, maybe sometime, come up with other designs for business cards for Sol, test what other ideas I could come up with, things like that. So this was a lot of fun!!

Dr.Who and the Daleks (1965)

“I have a machine which is capable of crossing the barriers of time and space. I will tell you its secrets if you do not explode the bomb,”

This is Marie’s favorite line from Dr. Who and the Daleks. You can often find her watching this after the kids are put to sleep.

Julius Lawrence Investment Event

The “Event Poster” task was the second assignment from the bank that I decided to complete. I’m expected to make a poster for an event that is coming up, which could be anything I want, so this assignment should be rather straightforward. Above is my finished project. I used the character I created for the course, who is educating young adults and college students about wise financial decisions. He is putting up these event posters throughout New York City in the hopes of drawing in a lot of Columbia and New York University students. As an investment banker, Julius feels that those who lack knowledge about investing or managing their money should be educated. The image I made with DALL-E 3 from ChatGPT 4 has weird characters and misspellings, which I don’t understand. Why is his name Julius Lawrence spelled Julus Lawrennce and investment spelled Iiveestiment? I’m not sure why that is the case, as I provide clear guidelines, and mispronouncing words is not one of them. I hope a large number of people show up for Julius’ investment information session; I think it will be very beneficial!

Xander’s Feature on the Cover of Vogue Magazine

Well, it happened, and it was only a matter of time. Xander made it onto the cover of Vogue Magazine. It is no surprise here that Xander made it onto the cover, he is a well-rounded man with a great mind as he says. As a result, there needed to be a cover for the magazine and one of the assignment bank assignments just happened to be to create a Vogue cover for someone. Therefore, I decided to create a magazine cover for Xander as he was the latest celebrity to make the front page. As you can see, he is main point on the front page with various pieces of text around and behind him. I use an AI chatbot to create the image because I needed to have Xander on te front and not some random clipart. Also, it was interesting to see a certain aspect of the image after its creation. I think that the AI chatbot drew inspiration from Tony Stark and the Iron Man films because if you look at Xander’s chest, it looks like there is an arc reactor powering his heart. This was really cool and interesting to see mainly because it was unexpected from the image generator stating that I have never spoken to given it prompts that are related to Iron Man. You can also see in the background the actual title of the magazine along with his name and different accolades and technologies that he has invented. I really enjoyed creating this cover because it turned out to be something that might actually be on the cover of a magazine one day and it was interesting to see how the image generator took inspiration from a place (Iron Man) when I have never spoken or said anything about it and so that was cool to see.

Assignment Bank – The Color of Words

Using PhotoChrome, I entered the word “Artificial Intelligence”, and this was the image that was created. The colors used were all near grey and blue. I assume that this is since the color blue can be associated with technology in a way. The color grey is due to the images with city buildings and computer hardware.

eternal ad time you’ll enjoy

The cartoon ad assignment with so much potential I had to try.

Have you ever thought a particular cartoon character would make a great advertiser? Well here’s your chance. Take an existing product or even a regular item and have a cartoon character do their best salesman impression.

ds106 assignment info: ad using a cartoon character

I chose this one because I love making designs, especially for odd things like this. This assignment tells the story of Snow White becoming an ambassador for Airbnb because she is the perfect example of what not to do. She decides to break in and sleep in dwarf beds instead of: asking, finding a friend (she knows all of the animals in the forest they gotta have a place), making her own shelter, or literally just any other option. This post doesn’t hold too much meaning as you can only convey so much in an advertisement and it was made by me so I wouldn’t hold too many serious story elements in it beyond a laugh.

I used Canva again because it is perfect for quick and easy designs like this one. To perfect my craft I looked up examples of Airbnb billboards and riffed off of their well-known design that pop up everywhere. Past that, it was as easy as finding the image of Snow White about to be clubbed and plopping it into Canva.

This is a sponsored post now, read the whole thing so I can make money through my nonexistent provider.

Don’t be like this.

learn fun things about an insane movie here

My attempt at making a movie infographic for the movie, Baby Driver.

I chose this assignment because I am a huge consumer of movies and TV shows so this would finally be a chance to use it. After looking at the example I wanted to create mine to have the inclusion of some iconic imagery that would pull focus to something cool. So I choose Baby Driver because the cars are such an iconic part that would look amazing on an infographic as well as it being such a detailed amazing movie. This infographic gives the viewer a brief rundown on some small trivia and captures the important parts of the movie that make it so incredible. By taking the story of a movie and putting it into a quick and easy-to-read instead of scavenging through scattered wiki pages, interviews, and reviews it becomes the perfect digital story format.

To make this assignment I knew I wanted to focus on the cars since they are the focus of the movie so I found a list of all the cars used. I then found images of all of them with proper coloring on the web and used a background remover tool to make each image transparent. After compiling all these images into Canva along with a few extras relevant to the movie I added some facts I found on IMDb and Moviepedia. I then immediately deleted all the images that piled up on my desktop, only worsened by my indecisiveness over what I wanted to include in such a small space.

Please enjoy an assignment I put too much time into and enjoyed way too much.
