11:11 – Week 11 Summary

I can’t believe we’re on week 11, that is unreal.

Daily Creates

For this week’s Daily Creates, I did Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday’s. For Tuesday, I struggled to make art with a question mark. The vague Daily Creates are either the best or worst for me. Some prompts, I love the freedom to do what I like, but for others’, I have no idea where to start. I ended up deciding to do a word cloud in the shape of a question mark. I was surprised to see no one else had done this yet. I used synonyms of the word “question” and then questions such as “who, what, when, where, why?” I put those words in a word cloud generator and messed around with the colors until I got a result I liked. Here it is!

For Thursday, the prompt was to make a story out of undecipherable text. The leaves on the book reminded me of a beanstalk, so I thought maybe the text was the original storytelling of Jack & the Beanstalk. While unlikely, it’s definetly not impossible because the story of Cinderella dates all the way back to the Tang Dynasty (my source in case you don’t believe me.) To make this piece, I used canva and found a graphic of someone climbing. I added the graphic and a few sentences from the story. Here is my daily create!

For Friday’s Daily Create, the prompt was to point out some irony. I had some trouble thinking of an example but then I remembered one of my favorite childhood movies: Tinkerbell and the Great Fairy Rescue. In the movie, there’s a storm which means the fairies can’t fly so they have to walk everywhere to find Tinkerbell. At one point in the movie, there is a shallow mud stream that the fairies have to cross, but the garden fairy hates mud. She owns up to the irony of it, and the line was so quotable that it started trending on TikTok. Here is the video.

Commenting

The first thing I commented on was Carson Frank’s Daily Create about the unreadable text. Carson’s DC was that the book invented the traffic cone. I said, “What a brilliant invention! Great for directing traffic, and great for people to steal when they’re drunk. It makes me wonder what they were using that cone for.” My comment was playfully sarcastic, which I’m not sure if it reads that way, but it’s a funny idea to think traffic cones have been around since before traffic. I then commented on Liv’s Door Daily Create. She said that behind her door was an infinite doorway, and she made it a gif. I was really impressed because the gif came out great! I said, “Ooo! I’m impressed with this gif! It came out so well! But the idea of infinite doorways is anxiety inducing 😵‍💫” The gif looked really good, and I was really impressed with Liv’s skill. Next, I commented on Cinder’s unreadable text DC, theirs was my favorite from the week. They found an illustration that looked like men in a pool and said it was the first pool party, which was very creative. The thing that makes me laugh, is that the men are naked and the water is green. I commented, “Hahaha I love this idea and the added speech bubbles make it even funnier. But there’s one aspect that I can’t overlook… if that’s a pool, why is the water green? What are they doing in there?” I am very curious to know if that crossed Cinder’s mind when they made that Daily Create. The last think I commented on was Ryee’s question mark daily create. They used Procreate and played around with the the different brushes to create a question mark. I commented, “I like the chaoticness of this brush! I love Procreate, it’s so much fun to doodle on!” Last I checked, procreate is only available on the apple store, which stinks because I don’t have an iPad and I would love to have the app on my laptop.

This week was very chill which was amazing because I was swamped with 100 other things this week. I’m really looking forward to next week and filming my trailer with my group.

Week 11 Weekly Summary

Starting Off

It is finally April, yay! Starting off with the new week, I am proud of my group work from the past couple of weeks! I started off just commenting on other’s work, as well as listening to our radio shows! I was happy to see there was some less work this week, as well as having some time to think about my final project. My group is considering coming back together to work on the final project together, which I am excited about! We worked together really well!

Radio Show Listening

We had to tune in to listen to our own radio shows, as well as one of the other groups shows. I go more in depth in my blog post, Radio Show Review, but I listened in on the DS106 radio, where they went over news events around the world. It was really good, and I had a lot of fun listening to it.

Daily Creates

Daily Create #1

a question mark drawn with the words "question mark"

For the first daily create of the week, we were asked to make a art with a question mark. I immediately thought of the website we used for a former daily create called Visual Poetry, where you could draw something with words. I simply made a question mark out of the words “Question Mark”.

Daily Create #2

For the second daily create of the week, we had to open the door and show what was happening behind it. I thought to do a infinite doorway, a never-ending tunnel!

Daily Create #3

a run-down road called "Paradise Road" and "Luxury Avenue"

For the final daily create of the week, we were asked to find or edit a photo of a location that had an ironic name! I decided to do a more run-down, industrial area, and give it the street names of “Paradise Road” and “Luxury Avenue”.

Overall

Overall, again, it was a pretty chill week. I really enjoyed listening to the other radio shows, as well as getting ready for the final project in the next coming weeks! I am ready for next week!

Weekly Summary- 4/3

This week I listened to Noir News the streamed on the ds106 radio channel. I ended up looking back on the discord conversation as well because at the time of the live broadcast I was unable to contribute to the chat. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed Noir News and it felt like an actual news broadcast to me. Starting off with a newscaster voice set the tone perfectly, and I think the focus on robots gave a cool futuristic but realistic take on what future news stories could look like. The commercials had new sounds layering going on to not seem too plain, and having a well known brand commercial in Dunkin Donuts connected the show to our current world and helped find a futuristic/realistic balance within the show.

This week I also did 3 daily creates, and will post them below, per usual.

Week 11

This week was fairly easy in terms of workload, but I really enjoyed logging in and listening to the different radio broadcasts. Each show had its own unique style and creativity. The way the stories were told along with the advertisements placed within the shows added an extra layer of entertainment. It was interesting to see how each group approached their show differently, bringing fresh ideas and creativity to the project.

The daily creates for this week was nice. I realized I enjoy dark humor

lol because what was I thinking with that ear thing! For two of these

I used Canva to create them and then for the April on I just looked for

whoopi cushion images to edit, there is a weird amount to be honest.

I enjoyed listening to Days of Crimes and Roses and can’t help but wonder if they will be doing a Final together, I just know the project would come out great. Regardless this was a good breather after two weeks of stress. All three of them did a great job and if the radio show wasn’t at my bedtime I would’ve listened to more. Hopefully I run into them when I am commenting!

Now then my weekly words of wisdom sleep and eat because it’s proof we have survived my comrades!

Radio Show and Week 10 Summary

This week was spent recording and editing the show, so no new content was made for it. We did run into the technical difficulty of the show not being long enough, we tried to extend the script, but it’s still on the shorter side. However, I’m proud of what we made and the way we communicated as a team.

Aside from recording my part, I was in charge of double checking the editing of everyone’s individual parts together and the sound effect/music timing, and I, myself, had to put the bumpers and ads into the final product.

it takes a village

Week 10 Summary:

Week 10 was a good week for me personally I feel back on track. Me and my group were able to complete the project on time, I’m happy with the overall outcome of our project originally I wasn’t sure how my sound effects and editing would come out and it felt forced, but once I found the flow and timing of the podcast the uncertainty left me and I was able to produce a enjoyable product for the listener. Most of the work done this week is explained in my Noir Games podcast post if you’d like more insight into the process of creating for our podcast.

Daily creates:

During this week we were responsible for 2 daily creates which I was able to get done. The first daily creation I completed asked us to tell what we love I decided to show off some green beans I harvested from last year’s harvest that I absolutely loved. Gardening is an important part of my life and as I get older the more I grow to appreciate the skill. For the second daily creation we were asked what our personal opinion was on the creative possibility of limits, boarders and all kinds of dividers this immediately made me think of the speed limit as this is the most common border I have issue with. Boarders like the speed limit are important in regulating a society, even though anyone could speed its borders like this that may help deter certain parties from speeding and help limit the number of fatal crashes, although I may not like driving the speed limit and I may be safe going a little bit over it is still smarter to follow the rules set in place by society for everybody’s sake.

Weekly Summary #10: Radio Show Week!

M. Marshall 3.28

It’s crazy that we are in week 10. I don’t feel so much like I’m fumbling around on this website now. So that’s a definite improvement. Most of the work this week for me was putting together the audio and recording my own for the radio show, so here it is:

And now my daily creates!

Day 1:

Can you find all 18 faces?

Day 2:

It’s true! I have 4 younger siblings, but she’s the baby 🙂 My favorite time of year is the 6 day period where she and I are 10 years apart (10 and 20 was pretty cool but what I’m really excited for is 20 and 30).

That is all for this week!

A fun and exciting week

I really enjoyed this week. It ended up being one of my favorites so far, which is surprising because I was initially nervous going into this week. Sometimes I get nervous for group projects because I don’t know what to expect, but it ended up being a great week.

This week I participated in my first podcast/radio show. I had a lot of fun recording with “The Fearless Femmes”. We had a couple bumps when trying to complete our show, but we still came out with a great finished project. In my weekly summary I talk all about our week in completing our radio show you can read below:

Our group worked together very well. For our show we decided to have a caller concept where listeners can call in and tell the fearless femmes about any current struggles they’re going through and get direct advice from us. We answered the questions from the calls from the standpoint of our characters, and called in as ourselves.

We took last week to brainstorm and create bumpers/intermissions/and commercials for our show. We also created promo posters and videos. This took a lot of the pressure off for this week so we only had to focus on recording and editing the show.

We came up with scripts for our show to have something to go off of. I think this was a good idea for us so we would have ideas to bounce off of to keep the conversation flowing. We ultimately met in the DKC and finished our recording Thursday afternoon and it was edited by the end of the night.

I’m so proud of the finished outcome for our show. For many of my group members including myself this was our first radio show recording. I think after having practice rounds we really warmed up to each other and had a steady flow which resulted in a great radio show outcome. Click below to listen to our show.

Since it was a pretty busy week with the radio show, I was glad that there were only 2 daily creates to complete this week. I completed my creates Tuesday and Thursday this week. Check them out below:

I’m so excited to listen to everyones radio shows. I really had a great time recording with the Fearless Femmes this week. I learned so much about recording and editing audio this week that I plan to continue to improve in the future.

Hope you enjoy!

Sincerely, Kristen
