Week 7 Summary

After a week filled with job interview prep and studying for midterms, I was very happy to have such a great week in DS 106! I really love all of the assignments that center around my character, Isaiah Beacon as he fits into this AI universe so well. I was fortunate enough not to run into any technical hiccups this week, which was very nice after last week.

Starting with the Daily Creates, I think that they went well this week. I think we got lucky and got a bunch of easy options. I particularly enjoyed looking through a bunch of puppy photos for the pure picture prompt. You can find all of my responses here.

The propaganda assignments came very naturally as Isaiah already owns a media empire that pumps out a lot of media. The PSA assignment was probably my favorite assignment, as the idea of a robot political advertisement made me laugh. I also enjoyed having the robot slip up in his script and then restart because this added a more comedic, human element. You can find that assignment here. Likewise the propaganda assignment happened fairly easily as well. I got lucky enough to find a graphic on Canva that perfectly matched what I was looking for. The catchphrase for the poster also came to me easily, and I think in the end it all looked very nice together. You can find that assignment here. The reactions assignment also went well, and I had a fun time getting into the head space of Isaiah and relaying his reactions to each of the poster. Overall, a very good and fun week of assignments!

Week 7 Summary

The first assignment this week was to create propaganda. I created and discussed my process here. I enjoyed this assignment and thought it was interesting that not many other people seemed to create anti-Aggressive Technologies propaganda. It appears that most of the characters are on board with Aggressive Technologies and their plan to take over the world.

The next assignment was creating a PSA, which I did and reflected on here. Give it a listen and see if you agree with the announcement! I like the idea that there are some people trying to stop Aggressive Technologies but definitely a minority imposing the resistance.

We also had to do three daily creates this week, which I wrote about here. I appreciate the daily creates where we can use art generators or other websites of that nature to create something. There were two that I did like that this week, so let me know what you think!

I also looked at some of the PSAs my classmates made and, like I mentioned, was surprised they were pro-Aggressive Technologies/ AI for the most part. You can read my further analysis of the three PSAs I saw here. Hopefully Düşünür is able to contribute to the resistance and persuade more characters to join him!

Weekly Summary, Spring Break!

I had A busy week with midterms! i feel like my brain is slowly melting so I am VERY excited for spring break! I had a crazy fun week though with this class! I chatted with Dr. Oblivion about how to write a blog post better so fingers cross his advice works!

Propaganda and Public Service Announcement!!

For this assignment I wanted my Course Character to write this post and talk about both assignments I had done. I feel like her words would be more fancy with all the books she reads and since she is also writer! I did add these assignments on one post but I really thought it would be funny to have my Character do both!

Daily Creates!

My Daily Creates for this week were AI filled! every single one I did was using some sort of photo generator which was really fun to do! I love learning all of these tools that I had no idea that was on the internet. I did the Castle On The Hill, Post Stamp, and Net Art?

I think they were super fun and helped me be more creative with the tools I have!

WE LOVE PROPAGANDA WEEK!!! For both my propaganda poster and my PSA I focused on Aggressive Technologies and the role it is taking in the world that is basically being controlled by them at this point. It was a little rough coming up with ideas though since last week I did my own sort of propaganda week, but after looking up some inspiration online and the other posts from our class I made a sort of plan for what I wanted to do.

My post-reaction was an unexpected fun activity from this week since I was able to get into the mind of Andrea and create more layers to her personality. It was also fun as always to see what the rest of the class is working on with such broad assignment prompts.

Also in my free time, I added some small customizations to my website theme. I already knew how to code before but I learned a lot about CSS so that I could add small things. Like the effect that highlights the post when you hover over it and some slight adjustments to change the spacing of the header and its elements which isn’t a customizable option through the theme’s usual settings.

When I think of the word pure one of the first things that comes to mind is pure love that can come in all sorts of forms

Day 2: #tdc4430 Net Art? or Not Art?

I put in “Solitude in the Cityscape” and I would say it captured it pretty well if the watermarks weren’t so in your face.

Day 3: #tdc4431 What are the oscillators crooning?

They’re a traveling quartet of singers displaying their full range for all to hear! They perform many different styles from opera to beatboxing and between the 4 of them they can pull off whatever you throw at them.

7th Week in a Row

This week we were asking to create history based items. I hate history, anything that has to do with it. I did however, complete all my assignment this week. Which the assignments were only two of them because I do not really count the daily creates because they do not take much time.

The first assignment was to create propaganda that was based on artificial intelligence or Aggressive Technologies. I chose to incorporate both in which you can see below. I created a sticker intended to be on a car.

Next, we needed to create a Public Service Announcement which proved to be more difficult than I had intended. But down below is the finished product.

Aggressive Technologies (thumbs down emoji) – Week 7 Summary – 2/23-3/1

This week was pretty fine! I had a lot of assignments in other classes with midterms and jazz, so I was so grateful to have a simpler week this week. I did leave all my work for Friday, but that was mostly because I had to so I could focus on my other work. It’s okay, though, because I do think I did pretty fine this week!

In the last few weeks, I was trying a new style for organizing these summaries, and I think I like that way better, so here it is!

Daily Creates

The Daily Creates this week were pretty simple and easy! They still prepared me to get to actual work and get a little inspired! I talked about it a lot more in the post so I’ll save you the yapping, but these were nice. I especially liked the Net Art one, I think it was fun to come up with a prompt and see how it would scan the internet to give you a new image with a crazy amalgamation of images.

Week 7 Daily Creates

Propaganda

This might be one of the assignments I’m most proud of. After stepping away and going to work and coming back, I’m looking at my propaganda poster, and I’m like, “wow, I did that!” I think it looks really good! I think I have an advantage with experience with graphic design from high school, but I do think this was really good.

Now that I am looking at it again, I do see things that I missed or could have tweaked, but I’m stil happy!

One last thing, creating a Pinterest board for inspiration really helped me, I think. I actually had a good time getting inspired looking at these, so I think for other design-related assignments like this, I want to make boards for them to see what I can find and get inspired.

Public Service Announcement

I lost all of my inspiration by this post and spat out a not very fun PSA. I really liked other people’s PSAs, I don’t know why I lost all my inspiration and couldn’t make a similar one. I think I feel bored and dull about my PSA because I used ChatGPT to write it instead of me . . . that’s not really my type of thing, but I thought maybe it could write something more intelligent! Which, it did, but I just don’t feel happy because it didn’t come from me . . . I don’t know.

Reaction

Looking at all the posts for this week was really fun! I loved seeing where people’s brains went for these assignments. Everyone is really creative!

One problem I’m having is that I can’t quite figure out what personality I want Sol to have. Every time I’m writing, I feel like I might be writing as myself and not as Sol. I’m having a rough time getting in their head, and part of me regrets making a character that’s similar to me, but it wasn’t super intentional. I hope as I keep doing these assignments related to them that I find their voice.

This week was fun! It’s also interesting to me because we just recently talked about propaganda in my Social Psychology class, so designing propaganda was fun because I could understand just what people are looking for in propaganda and just what influences them.

Very excited for break next week though . . . everyone have a good spring break!!

Week 7 = Done

During the 7th week, I began by making some propaganda. I chose to present my propaganda from the perspective of Aggressive Technologies. Click this link to view my propaganda photo and blog Propoganda Poster and Blog. Next, I continued to develop the course character’s story in the audio/video PSA. He is regrettably stuck between Xander Neurotic, his friend, and Aggressive Technologies. Please watch my PSA by clicking this link, PSA: Julius Lawrence and Aggressive Technologies. Afterwards, I completed the daily creates on Monday: Daily Create #1 , Tuesday: Daily Create #2,  and Wednesday: Daily Create #3. This week’s daily creates were enjoyable to work on; the subjects were interesting and helped inspire my ideas for some of the other tasks. Next, after seeing their daily creates, PSAs, and propaganda, I left comments on a few posts made by my classmates. Observing how classmates employed aggressive technologies in ways that were similar to or different from mine to develop the stories of their course characters was entertaining. It was a wonderful assignment to tie my character to other people’s content. I then created the final blog post about how my course character would relate to a few of my classmates propaganda posters and PSAs. Because he dislikes aggressive technologies, Julius Lawrence, my course character, did not find the PSAs and propaganda posters he saw to be all that appealing. This week, too, I finished the assignments without any issues. This week, making my own PSA was the task I most loved. By making the PSA, I was able to combine my knowledge of audio, graphics, and sounds into a single project. It is always a pleasure to advance the story of my course character, particularly when it involves him and Aggressive Technologies. Sincerely, I have no idea where I will take my story next, but I can’t wait to keep developing the plot. 

Honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing. I think I completed each task to the best of my ability. I don’t have any questions right now. Right now, everything was finished accurately, thus my work isn’t experiencing any major issues.

Week 7 Done… Just Like That!!!

This week was another light week in terms of assignments and what we had to do. I started off this week’s assignment on Sunday and so I started with my first daily create. This daily create required us to take the open mouth of a statue and remix it and so I decided to do something a little bit more creative. I drew inspiration from the Iron Man movie, where at the end of the movie, is is sitting by himself in his suit inside of a huge donut sign eating a donut and so i had an Ai-chatbot generate me an image of a superhero sitting inside the mouth of a statue eating a donut. Although the statue was not the same, the idea behind the picture and requirements for the daily create were still met, in my opinion. You can view and read about this daily create at this link. Then, on Monday, I did my second daily create. I did my second daily create on Monday in which we had to describe our visit to either Ed Sheeran’s Castle on the Hill or Frankenstein’s Castle. You can read about what I chose here. Following that on Tuesday, I did my third and final daily create for the week. The final daily create of the week required us to create a postage stamp for the DS106 field. Therefore, I used an AI-chatbot to create a postage stamp for DS106 and you can find that post here. As stated in the description, the test may not be perfect because AI-chatbots sometimes still struggle with placing text on the image, however, other than that it was a perfect fit for the assignment description. While all my daily creates were being completed, I moved onto creating the actual pieces of work that I needed to finish the assignments for the week. The first assignment was a propaganda poster that we needed to create that represented something about our course character. As a result, i chose to do my propaganda poster on Xander and his troubles with his former employer, Aggressive Technologies. I used an AI-chatbot to create the image and it shows Xander standing in front of his former company’s building with the motto “Aggressive Tech: Profit Over People,” and I chose to go with this because Aggressive Technologies cares more about money than valuing their workforce as you read in last week’s backstory with Xander and the company. My final assignment for the week was to create a public service announcement that gave a speech about our course character and relate it to the field of AI or to Aggressive Technologies. Once again, I chose the Aggressive Technologies route and made a news bulletin/PSA about how Xander was going to go public with the information he has on his former company and how they truly run their company. You can read and hear all about that in this post. The final task was commenting, which I did, as well as to create a blog post that required us to watch other people’s PSAs and try to think of how our character would respond to them. That post is located here and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it out.

I did not encounter too many issues this week when completing my assignments. I thought things went pretty smoothly this week and I enjoyed doing all of the assignments. From this week, I would say that creating the propaganda poster was my favorite. This is because I found it very enjoyable to create various images for the propaganda poster and finally decide on which one I wanted to use. It allowed me to be thorough and extra creative with the work that I was choosing and that made it more enjoyable. Once again, I did not encounter any issues this week for any of the assignments.

I definitely think that I accomplished all of the requirements for the assignments for this week and I think I did them to the best of my ability. Like stated before, my favorite assignment was the propaganda poster for our course character and their relation to AI/Aggressive Technologies. I would not do anything differently for the work that I did this week as it was completed with effort, time, and creativeness. I believe that there are no larger issues at hand with my work. I think that the assignments were done properly and with effort. I do not have any further questions at this time for the class. One thing I will focus on in the future, it just to get better at working with and understanding the OpenShot Video Editor just in case I am in need of using it again in the future.

3+3= Week 6

Boy oh boy, this week has been one for the books! This week I experienced something call brain frog. I struggled this week completing any of work for about 4 days straight. No work and no school I was stuck with trying to relax my mind so that I was able to get calm my brain.

With that being said, I need an extension on week 6 work for DS. Which I just finished it tonight:

Overall, it was a very light week and I really enjoyed creating the AI for Josh and putting a voice to a photo as well. It took a whole a lot of time trying to figure out a face and a voice all in one day, but I completed it with the best of my ability. I really wish I could have done it on time, but I am happy that our Professor was understanding. It made me wish we had this class in person.

Week 6 Summary

As I look back on the week, I felt the week went by really quick. This week was another week based on video. As far as the assignments go, I thought they were fun and creative. For the first assignment, I chose option B, 3 video assignments from the assignment bank. At first, I was unsure which to pick. I wanted to do something that wasn’t too hard, so I didn’t have to stress but at the same time I wanted to do something that was a little bit challenging to test my creativity. I ended up choosing VideoAssignments2408,  VideoAssignments2746, and VideoAssignments846. I would have to say my favorite was VideoAssignments2746. Just the overall process of creating a video of Leo Storm talking was fun and in my opinion was one of my more creative approaches to an assignment. I used a website called blabberize.com to upload a picture of Leo Storm, this website allowed me to make an image look like it was talking. After I uploaded the photo, I used an Ai text to speech to record the poem. Once that was complete, I uploaded the file of the voice over of the poem and created my video.

Developing Leo Storm was an interesting assignment.  The goal was to connect Leo to Aggressive Technologies. I decide to write about him getting a job offer there but he is torn about keeping the job or leaving due to Aggressive Technologies ethical ways of doing things. This week was a lot of fun and can’t wait to see what is in store for next week. Until next time!
