Final Project – Breaking News

The final project for DS 106. I came to this class scared of failure. I have not done much with computers and felt I was starting behind where most of the students in the class were. I was probably wrong. I have pushed myself to try something new every week or attempt to succeed at something I had previously failed at. In the final project I wanted to finally make my evil brick creation speak. I also wanted to try to recreate the magic of working in a group like in the radio project. I think I reached both of those goals.

My group all came through with great content. Everyone put in great effort to make content for the news broadcast. Destiny Sunrisen – destiny’s lil blog 🙂 Was the editor for the first half of the news show and I put together the second half. It felt good to trust someone else with a hunk of the work and not be a control freak. I have checked out Destiny’s work throughout the semester and in Ravioli Radio and knew they could handle it. They do excellent work. Greta According to Greta – WordPress site (gretahammen.com) did the news anchor to tie everybody’s work together. It was also an important bit to make the whole piece feel connected and together.

. I am not good at delegating and trusting people to do things. I have think I have successfully done that this time. Marisol Sol’s Wrld – Bright like the Sun (mjuarez.com) came through as always with the great idea and video of the Ring Door Bell. Last but not least we got a new to use group member Leila Leila’s Corner – Her interlude (the-comeup.com). She created some fantastic news segments on self-driving cars and vending machines going after us. Everyone in the group did more than what I mentioned here. If you want to hear more about them, please click on the links to their blogs.

I created the chat in discord and a google doc for us all to stay organized. I put up a sample outline in the google doc for us to start with and content idea list. Everyone could add or change things at any time. I found videos of stuff I thought fit the AI uprising theme and put links to it on the google doc. The news show Idea gave everyone the opportunity to make different types of digital media. I was dead set on animating that brick if it killed me, so I didn’t use any of the video I found. (One video was an ad for a movie about a car tire that came alive. https://youtu.be/hVKgY1ilx0Y?si=LWg6bjTOq4ETqEf4) I also made some ridiculous posts on Facebook about AI. I then changed my profile picture and took a screen shot on my phone of the post a few days later. I then put the posts into photoshop and changed the name from mine (Sarah Bradshaw) to whatever moved me. I came up with the names a few different ways. Sally was what I named a favored doll as a child. Some of the names were picked for their amusing initials. And others you can just guess. I then cropped the image to size to be placed on a slide for the news segment. I added graphics and a voice over. The voice is AI from AI Voice Generator & Text to Speech | ElevenLabs name Matilda. I came up with all the writing and dialog myself. I did not use a chat bot. For the Dr Oblivion segment, he is a chat bot. I asked him a question twice and spliced both of his answers together and lip synced it to a video of him. I added the graphics in Priemer Rush to make it look more like a news segment.

I think the things I made really show what I learned to do this semester in class. I learned how to edit sound and video. I learned how to use generative ai to make things for me to use in my art. I made a brick laugh. What once was scary no longer is. Except for maybe an AI uprising.

Everyone in the group has different strengths and skills so I have no idea who spent the most time on this project. I do know we all came together with great work and put it together. Since it is an online class, I wouldn’t recognize anyone on campus if I sat next to them. I will miss them I am sure, when I have to do another group project especially. They were great to work with.

Week 14 Summary

This week we were asked to complete our final project which I did complete on time. I was worried that I would not be able to get it in on time because I am currently driving from Virginia to California; however, it was done a day early!

I made sure to do my updates along the way of this two-week project and I am glad that I did not wait until the last minute to complete it. It took a lot of effort and time to create my show.

I did six different posts working up until my completion. If you would like to view or read about my experience, please click on the button below to view.

I chose not to do any day creates because I have been busy driving and packing that I barely had time to sleep. I am excited that I was able to take my work on the go and still experience my adventures.

I hope everyone enjoys my hard work of a show!

Final Project: Rumors Unleashed

For this project, I used these websites below:

Each of these websites were learned through this class. They were pretty much self-taught and I only went to the reading and writing center once this semester for help setting up WordPress

I used a combination of Wave2lip, attaching sounds and adding new voices to create my final project. I used my creative to be able to create a storyline that really makes my audience listen and wanted to stay focused into my show. Overall, I am pleased with myself and how much time and effort I put into this show. I hope you all like it just as much as I did!

If you would like to read about the long process of making this show, feel free to read my other post:

Final Project: Update Before the Show

I have been driving to California this whole week and so I needed to find time to up pick out the sounds off of Freeform while my boyfriend drove. Which was working really well until I noticed that after “downloading” about 10 sounds, none of them actually saved. After that realization I wrote the title of the sounds down and I put them into my computer when I got to a hotel room so that I was able to download them.

After I was finished downloading all of the sounds I needed, I placed them in their specific spots on the show. This part of the project did not take too long, but I did get upset that I spent about 30 mins listening to different sounds just for them not to save and I had to find them all over again.

After I was finished with the sounds, I rewatched my video so many times and did some tweaking for the sounds to make sure they were not too loud or too quiet. I rewatched it again and I was so proud of myself! I really do wish it was longer, but I feel as though I had a solid plot and I feel like I completed it to the best of my ability.

Final Project, it’s Process, and Weekly Summary

I just finished my final project and turned it in and realized I forgot to do an update post. I was honestly so busy this week with finals I forgot. For some reason this semester all my teachers want to do finals this week instead of next. I’m not super opposed to it, but just didn’t expect it. But anyway, back to my project. I can say I’m proud of what I made and the effort. I have never done anything this digital intensive and was a complete novice. I couldn’t really figure out the deepfake thing and didn’t want to pay for a bunch of AI stuff to do it so I came up with another idea to do a news bit that turns out to be AI the whole time and the country is under attack. I feel like that represents how me and a lot of others feel about the potentials of AI as a whole.

It first started with what sites and programs I wanted to use. I went with Canva, something called Murf for the AI voice, and I used an audio recorder on my phone for the end part. I first wrote the script myself and timed it accordingly, I didn’t want to make it super long and I wanted to make it realistic. I took the audio from MurfAI that spit out my script and then added the visuals over it to align with what was being talked about so people could recruit more than one sense of hearing. The point was for the audience to imagine a world where the country is divided on this issue and the government is preaching to trust them, but not all do. Then what everyone’s fears the worst happens and its not a joke. I tried to make it like an opening scene movie thing. It is obviously not but the potential for it is there in terms of the story line. The work for it started this week on Wednesday with the general idea and then that night i started a file for it and started the script then today I worked on it in increments until its completion. That’s pretty much how my week went for this class.

My final project represents pretty much everything I learned how to do this semester this class and I started with no interest and even less knowledge or competency. I learned how to figure out how to do something when I don’t know how to it. I learned how to do general audio things and visual creation. I learned how digital visuals and auditors can appeal to people just how physical, concrete things do and that has power. I learned to appreciate digital storytelling and creation as an art form and now can see the genius in it in YouTube videos all the way to box office movies. I hope to improve in the future! Below is my creation (my work for the week) if you guys want to check it out! Try the link or see if the video works, either should be good.

Week 14 Just One Week Left!!!

This week went by pretty quickly in my opinion. All we really had to do this week was to put together our final project and make a weekly summary post like usual. I started the week by getting all our audio files into Audacity so that we could begin making the final product for the project. I started by creating my radio bumper and commercial for the project and we used Eleven Labs to create my recordings for the scripts for each of the pieces. Once we had all the lines figured out and recorded, we were able to start putting together to the final product. We used the script that we made last week to make sure that all the lines matched up with our actual show. We also used the free sounds website to add music to our bumpers and commercials to try and add some more interest to the show and to keep the viewers and listeners engaged. Like past weeks, in order to create my radio bumper and commercial, I used audacity to take the recorded lines and the background music to put them together and create one audio file that was put into the entire show at the end when the show was being put together. The same process was applied to the creation of the commercial. Once we were able to get everything up into Audacity, we listened to the show back and decided that everything looked and sounded good so we uploaded our show in each of our respective weekly summary posts. I think this project shows a lot about everything we learned over the course of the semester because we used our audio editing skills that we gained over the course of the semester to make this whole radio show happen. I think that without doing the previous projects and audio assignments, this assignment would have been 10x harder because we would not have any experience with Audacity and we would not know where to begin or what to include in a project of this manner. I did not get a chance to post a progress post this week as my schedule is still very hectic and have not had much time for anything outside of school and tennis.

I did not encounter too many issues this week when completing my assignments. I thought things went pretty smoothly this week and I enjoyed doing all of the assignments. From this week, I would say that creating the final project was my favorite. This is because I found it very enjoyable to create a talk show for the two characters and have them interact once again. I anticipate that people will enjoy this talk show since it is shorter, and will allow them to stay engaged for longer to truly take in all the information being given. Once again, I did not encounter any issues this week for any of the assignments.

I definitely think that I accomplished all of the requirements for the assignments for this week and I think I did them to the best of my ability. I would not do anything differently for the work that I did this week as it was completed with effort, time, and creativeness. I believe that there are no larger issues at hand with my work. I think that the assignments were done properly and with effort. I do not have any further questions at this time for the class. One thing that I think I did well this week was managing my time yet again. Like last week, the end of the semester is getting hectic and things are starting to get a bit more bust especially with tennis and school ramping up. I think that I still did a good job managing my time and was able to getting everything that I needed to get done, done. Overall, I had a really positive experience with this class and think that most of the people in the class would agree with me. I gained a bunch of new skills and enjoyed working on the assignments and getting a chance to see how creative others got with their work and how they went about the process. That was cool to see and read about the insights into which people were getting their ideas from and actually completing their work. Like stated before, I really enjoyed the class and would recommend others to take if they have the time.

Final Project: Matching Game

I spent from 12am- 6am working on recording my script and using the program Wav2lip to creating the Josh videos. I also worked on matching up the other voices to the correct spots on the video. I was really hoping to finish this project throughout this night, but I still need to put sound effects on the video.

All of the comments I got on my script were so heartwarming to read and I really liked the pointer I got from others. Some of the ideas I got, I did include but others were very difficult for me to achieve however I did try to create a newspaper because I REALLY liked that idea, but it was hard to put a picture into the video and make it look like it belongs.

I used many websites to help me out for all the voices and getting them into MP3. I also used Wav2lip and we ALL know how long it takes to create one video…I created about 7 different scenes because Josh was position differently in each one.

In order to get the voices I used murf.ai and then I recorded them talking on my phone because I did not want to pay in order to download them onto my computer. For some reason the voice recorder on iPhone sends the audio in a M4A and I need them to be MP3 for ClipChamp and Wav2 Lip as well. I used this website that has been a savor for me this semester.

After I got them all onto my computer by emailing myself the audio off my phone then I had to cut the video piece by piece to get the Josh videos only. I want to emphasize “piece by piece” so one frame of Josh I would have to match up with one of the audios. This part was so time consuming, but I am so proud of myself that I completed all 7 frames in one sitting throughout one night.

Once I got all the Josh videos with the correct audio attached to them, I started putting together my video and the other audios: “the ghosts and the storyteller” which are another 3 characters withing my video. I ended up cutting some of the video because the was a lot of left over video after the audio so right now the video looks like it will be about 4 mins and 30 seconds long. I feel as though because I am putting good quality and so many different angles that it being less than 5 minutes will be okay. Hopefully.

I am so proud of myself for really pushing myself to do so much work because I want to create something that I can show my friends and family! They have been a big support for me during this class and they like to visit my page which makes me super happy.

Anyways, the only thing I need to do is add sound effects and then I will be all done. I am hoping to maybe put in 3 more hours for that and make my total time for this project around 18 hours…for less than 5 minutes…crazy but hopefully it will be worth it.

Final project update – laughing bricks are creepy.

My children have informed me that the laughing brick is just plain creepy, and I have been looking at bricks for too long. I then went back to the drawing board and tried making a short animation of the original evil brick. I used adobe photo shop ai generative fill to give the brick some mouths. The mouths were all varying in opening size. I created 8 of these frames. I then put them in Priemer Rush and made a short video clip of a brick opening and closing its mouth. I tried to use this clip I made in 2 different lip sync programs. (wav2lip and gooey ai) It would not sync. Then I decided to old school animation it. I tried to quickly match the movements of the mouth to the audio I recorded. While it isn’t perfect I have made it speak. The voice of the evil brick is my 7-year-old Tabitha. I think it really fits. I spent numerous hours on like 20 seconds of video. I am not sure the creepy laughing brick that my nearly 17-year-old says is the stuff of nightmares will make the cut for the final project.

The group as a whole is communicating through discord and a google doc. The google doc has been great with organizing what everyone is working on and what still need to be done. The idea of the news broadcast was an effort to give everyone the space to make what they wanted and tie it together in a cohesive way.

Final Project: Script

I decided to make a script tonight to hopefully make this week easier. I picked out all the frames and put them together accordingly. I am hoping to at least make 5 Minutes for my video, and it is looking promising! In the next couple of days, I will be putting some words into people’s faces and hoping they look good enough!

Feel free to read the script but just know that things might still change before it is completely done.

*eerie music in the beginning showing the house*

(person:)    This is the house where Aggressive Technologies started its business and due to the poor working conditions, it was shut down. A couple still lingers around, and you can hear their laughter, footsteps, and the sound of the thud when the wife slipped and fell from the steps. With the husband being the only one in the house, everyone pointed the blame on him. Little did anyone else know but there have always been ghosts running around this mansion.

Josh: Hello everyone, welcome to the house of Jesse and Emily. They were known as the happy couple in their time around the 1970’s and these are the steps that Jesse pushed Emily down and if you listen closely enough you can hear the thuds multiple times. Many people believe that it is Emily falling onto the floor as she keeps reliving the moment.

(person:) Each step you take up these stairs will cause more and more creaking because of how old they are. And looking down you can see how far it is from the top to the bottom of these steps.

Josh: Aggressive Technologies had a lot going on at the time of the 1970’s it was up and coming with all the new inventions like my flying cars and mopeds. I am glad to say that my flying cars are flying all over the roads now. So much has changed within 10 years.

Josh: Actually, when I started my business, I was working with Emily and Jesse, we were all trying to make flying cars happen until a tragic accident occurred leaving me to question what really happened here. Too bad no one will ever know the truth because they are both dead now.

Josh: Woh! As I am walking through I can hear some foot steps up above me! Maybe it is morse code. Lets see if we can crack it for fun.

JOsh: I am the power to the flying cars and aggressive technology had to be taken down so no one could have my credit. Emily was going to tell the world once she found out I was in it for the money. I played it like it was Jesse who pushed her, but it was me. I killed her. And then I killed Jesse by hanging him by the stairs.

JOsh: Now that everything is out in the open, I feel much better telling the world they are all going to die because they can never get out of the flying cars once they start driving. That is why there are so many missing people and cars in the air.

Emily: Thank you for helping me out, Now I am free!

Jesse: Now Emily and I can be together forever laying in bed, Thank you for helping us solve this mystery.

Evil Bricks and Final Update

I saw another student used a website gooey AI to lip sync. I thought I book marked their post but once again I did not. internet search for the win! After much trial and error, I figured out how to get my Evil Brick to laugh. I made frames of a brick with a mouth slowly disappear and reappear. I made 8 frames in all. Then I took these and put them in Adobe Premier Rush and copied them and looped them. I then had a silent video of a brick opening and closing its mouth crudely. I them went to Gooey AI and uploaded the very short video and a sound of laughing from free sound. The program worked! it even improved my brick’s weird mouth. I now have to see if I can get it to say something other than laugh now.

I also have been having trouble with YouTube. It worked when I switched browsers.
