Film Review – Revised

The film Superintelligence, reflects on the evolving understanding of artificial intelligence in society.

Dr. Oblivion was able to assist me in altering my original review a bit.

Right off the bat, AI utilized the voice of James Corden to catch Carol’s attention since that is her favorite celebrity. This choice demonstrates the AI’s ability to comprehend personal preferences and navigate within social dynamics. Through Carol, Superintelligence learns about human interactions. AI attempted to shape Carol’s life in order to win over George. It showcased its power that it has on multiple aspects of society throughout this movie with this one being a big one. I did not like how Superintelligence had Carol dress up fancier, gave her an expensive car, etc. These were all basically AI “buying” her happiness. AI did this in a way to ultimately impress George. Which is scary because AI took that over from social media and presented Carol a certain way to achieve a certain audience, which is George in this scenario.

In the beginning, AI had lost faith in humanity based off of Carol’s actions of not asking George to stay. However, when Carol had assisted George in packing, the AI’s faith had been restored. AI was able to pick up on a common human tendency which is when humans act against their self-interest.

The Techno-Optimist Manifesto

This article was quite interesting to say the least. Right of the bat, the layout had my attention, it was very well organized. However, it had me on edge the whole time. Personally, if felt like I was on a constant up and down roller coaster.

One of the main points that I understood from this is that they want technology to be accessible to all since it opens the space to being human and feeling human. Basically that to be human you need technology to make you feel whole??? They mention how through technology, the want to get rid of poverty by making everyone rich. I feel that the bigger picture would relate to my film review. As even in the movie, AI is seen as growing human/learning human interactions and feelings. AI showed its power in the film and similarly I feel this article did as well.

Assignment Bank: Week Two

  1. Destination Poster
My destination poster is of my aunt’s house in Pakistan. It is very common to decorate and hang lights in celebration of weddings! I took this picture December 2023, when I visited my home country to attend weddings and eat delicious street food!

2. Make a Simple Program

Since our course theme is AI and we need to relate two of our three assignments to AI, I thought why not let AI do the next one! I had provided ChatGpt with a simple request and within seconds it had delivered my answer. As a computer science student, we are not allowed to utilize ChatGpt to write our code so although it felt weird to utilize it, it only felt right for this theme! (Utilizing ChatGpt to write code is not a good idea anyway, it’s not 100% accurate).

3. My Wellness Check

What worries me about the future?

Not finding a job by the time I graduate this spring.

Leaving a door unlocked.

What do I want most in my life?

To succeed and work hard to support my parents like they have supported me my whole life.

Travel the world.

When did I last push the boundaries of my comfort zone?

When I tried eating squid. (Never again, not a dish for me)
