Week 4: Daily Create

The first daily create I did was my secret entrance to The Great Hall from Harry Potter! I love including things of my interests into my assignments, it makes them so much fun to do.

The next daily create was playing around with Mutsuacen.com.

My creation can be found here. It’s a funky piece with no name, and no specific design. I just went with the flow and experimented with the tools, shapes, colors, etc. I did enjoy the mirror aspect the most from it.

ds106 radio bumper

For my radio bumper, I wanted it to include aspects of one of my favorite things which is cars. Here it is:

In the beginning I added a seat buckling sound, to get the listeners ready for the message. This sound was from Fesliyan Studios.

Now my main audio source was the one and only Dr. Oblivion. I altered his voice to add some suspense when he said “wipe us all out”. Not that he needed anymore suspense to his preexisting voice, but just decided to have a bit fun with him.

Last but most certainly not least, at the very end I added an audio of a Formula 1 car zooming by. Signifying the end and heading out! This audio was from Pixabay.

Moon Graffiti

Audio storytelling is quite unique. When you have no visual to look at you pay more attention to what the people are saying and how they speak as well. Whereas, when you have a visual, you have more to see, leaving you with more distractions. Audio storytelling also allows you to envision and create your own interpretation of the scene based off of the audio.

The Moon Graffiti audio started off with the most intense scene. Captivating us listeners into the story. The whole time I was listening to it, there was an eerie feeling because of the background music they had added. At 7:08, when Buzz said “Neil, you gotta see this”, the eerie music even intensified. There was even a slight pause after Buzz called Neil’s name, adding more drama to the story.

I could also envision myself in space from this audio. As if I was an astronaut speaking through a radio to a colleague. You could hear the emptiness of space, their muffled voices, and movements as if you were there.

Week 3 Summary

Phew, made it another week. My week was packed with multiple things, but the material for this course was pretty light. So far I learned a lot more in this week’s material and had more fun as well!

My absolute favorite activity of the week was the Photoblitz activity. I hope you all enjoy reading through it as much as I did creating it!

Next was the design reflections where I felt like I learned the most.

I unintentionally created a theme for this week’s assignments. Hopefully you can pick it up on this next assignment, demystifying AI.

Lastly, I have my two bank assignments.

Read my visual assignment about how Chuckles is both brave and strong.

And finally, I hope I didn’t sink your ship with all my work.

😉

Iceberg Right Ahead!

Visual Assignment

Create a GIF

I decided to combine the two most crucial scenes from the movie Titanic. One was when they hit the iceberg, and the other when the ship sank. Both did not occur at the same exact time, but I thought it was interesting to sum it into one scene for my gif.

I used GIF Maker to create the gif and Adobe Stock is where I retrieved the full video from.

Chuckles is both Brave and Strong

Visual Assignment: Brave?

What is it to be Strong, to be Brave?

Being strong is facing setbacks and acknowledging life’s challenges, yet choosing to bounce back. Chuckles went through a rough childhood. Although, he prefers to keep personal information private, we do know that his childhood was not a happy one.

Being brave is engaging in personal growth and stepping out of your comfort zone to make life changes. Chuckles did this by becoming an architect and at nighttime focusing on making others laugh. He gave others what he never had, this is Chuckles being brave.

Demystifying AI

The first image generator that I decided to use was Stable Diffusion.

The following statement was what I asked for it to provide me with: create an image of someone cooking Pakistani food in a kitchen

This was the image I got back:

Personally, this wasn’t enough for me (not in terms of dishes, I mean the vibe all together).

So I gave it the following description: create an image of someone cooking a variety of luscious Pakistani food in a kitchen decorated with fancy plates and color around the room

The image I received back was

I tried about three more times, and I was disappointed with the results. It kept generating the same type of dishes and the architecture in the room was the same as well.

The next image generator I tried was Craiyon.

I fed it the following description: create me an image of a someone cooking a variety of mouth watering Pakistani cuisine with a fancy and colorful appearance overall

The image I received from them was the following:

I found this website to be the most inaccurate and frustrating. It displayed me 9 images each time, and none of them met the criteria.

This is why I always say that you can never fully rely on AI.

AI image generators is a threat to artists. The way I see it as is that artists put thought, effort, time, blood, sweat, tears and so much work into their pieces. Whereas for these image generators all someone is doing is sitting behind a screen and coming up with a description to feed AI. I find that in this way, the concept of art if gone… lost in translation.

Photoblitz

This post is written by a young woman who absolutely loves her home country Pakistan. Not only that, but loves taking pictures of everything. So here’s this assignment but with a twist of pictures taken in December 2023.

Here’s my starting picture:

I started at 10:32 pm!

Features a repeating pattern

I chose this picture because of the repeating pattern of the arches. The picture is of three restaurants combined into one building and located in Pakistan.

Confusion – Take a picture of confusion

When I hear the word confusion, this emoji is the very first thing that pops into my head. Therefore, I have a screenshot of this emoji for this task.

Create an interesting photo that includes looking through one object to see another

This is a picture taken by me as well. I was standing inside Badshahi Mosque and looking through an arch that looks out to Minar e Pakistan (The building in white).

Texture adds a dimensional quality to photos, and changes with scale

This next picture is taken from an airplane going over Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. We can see areas of elevation, however, we can not tell how elevated the areas actually are. Not only that, but there are clouds in the image as well adding more texture.

Make a photo that represents a passage of time

When the task said passage of time, I immediately knew which picture I wanted to use. This was the last sky/view picture I had taken while in Pakistan. Not only that, but it is of the sunset, which is a passage of time itself.

Take a photo in which a mirror is a major element

This image was also taken in Pakistan. The mirror is most definitely the main part of this hallway since it looks like an arch you can walk through but in fact it’s just a grand mirror!

Create a photograph that illustrates connection

When someone mentions the word connection, I immediately think of an airport connection. Perfectly this relates to my theme of this assignment. This is a picture I took of King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Finally, here is my picture of my ending time:

I found all of my pictures by 10:46 pm, within 12 minutes. Since I am a huge photography person, I remember all of my pictures that I take. Therefore, I knew exactly what image to use for each task.

Hope you all enjoyed as much as I did!

Design Reflections

Upon watching the video from Vox, I was fascinated to hear that not only did the title designers of Stranger Things utilize a font from the 1980s but they also created the title sequence just how they did in the 80s’. It has become quite a trend to bring back older techniques and styles. Not only in technology but in fashion as well. It is one of my favorite trends to be quite honest. I absolutely enjoy seeing things be utilized from different generations.

The video by VanityFair has completely changed how I will now view movie posters. I never before picked up on the common theme with the colors and font sizes of various movies. It was interesting to see how small hints of red means comedy and dark, eerie blue is for thriller.

I think I have grown a new interest in finding out the history and techniques of movie posters and titles.

Another Week Down!

This week was an interesting one. Had a rough start, but positive finish at the end. The multiple interactions with Dr. Oblivion was what made it most interesting. Having to communicate with him for the assignments was refreshing to have someone speak, but creepy since it was him with his creepy voice!

I started off by changing my layout for my blog, and I hope it only gets better from here. Following that, I did my three assignment bank activities. Touched a bit on home, my major, and checked in with myself!

Now, for my highlight of the week, my character Chuck Chuckles Smith! Chuckles kept me going this week to be honest.

Next was my review. Quite an interesting article is all I have to say.

Lastly, I present to you my re written film review! Where I sort of was losing my mind talking to a AI.

Can’t wait to be back for next week!
