there goes my weekly summary: #14

For my final project, I made a blog for my course character Andrea which you can find here. While I have created subdomains before, this one made me use all of the skills I learned during this class.

First I came up with the concept of what she posts about, the pages she has, and the comments that would have to be under each one. I made a resume for her and rebuilt the business card I made for her earlier. It then took me forever to find a blog theme, font, color scheme, etc. that worked for Andrea’s personality I built over the semester. Sadly once I found things that worked there were of course many problems with how they looked that I had to fix. This is where what I learned this semester really was used.

A lot of the time making this site went into the CSS coding on the backend. First I had to solve the problem of the post slider. Whenever you reloaded the site or just opened it for the first time there was a huge glitch where the photo size was normal but there was double the white space beneath it that wouldn’t go away until the next post came in. This disrupted the flow of the site and since Andrea is a software engineer I couldn’t just leave that error in. So after many hours over a few days of troubleshooting, I figured out how what element was causing the problem, how to override the original code (since I couldn’t find the line in the actual theme files which there are many), and then I added specific code to fix it based on the device you were on. The mobile device especially needed this slider fixed as the original theme cut off the image and the text was unreadable without this fix. Next, to really sell that this blog has been posting for a year I had to get rid of the comment post dates because, unlike post dates, those could not be changed. I then added a hover effect like I have on this blog to reduce the static look of the home page. Finally, I edited the size of the site’s title and description because they were way too small to read, and I added a bit more space between the top of the site and the title. The images below show how I did all of this and you can also see the difference between how it looks on different devices.

Obviously, it is not the smoothest fix as I am nowhere near becoming a computer programmer, but over the weeks of this course, these are all the skills I learned in CSS coding so that my site can look exactly how I want it to. After all I’ve done this semester, this project took the most time and frustrated me the most (especially the individual comments I had to do under different names) but in the end I really enjoyed the final product.

there goes my weekly summary: #10

This week was different from what we’ve been doing so far. Since our radio show was due we had little else to do and it definitely threw me off my usual routine. While the process wasn’t as fun as I had hoped since most of it was spent stressing out about how well it comes out, the end product is something I can sort of enjoy now that it’s over. You can listen to the podcast and read more about the process to make it here: the little radio show that could. I’m very excited to get back to our normal weekly assignments after this.

Day 1: #tdc4454 Splatter The Ink

the little radio show that could

The radio show is finally complete! This week was where all the actual work past the easy planning and writing started. Before anything else could get done we needed a script. We had laid out our show idea and some general question ideas down but we needed to solidify the actual concept. So I made an outline for our script laying a general idea of what questions had to be asked and our dodgy responses that incorporated just enough deception for maximum cult manipulation.

After that was done I used Elevenlabs to record my dialogue using the voice I made for my character a while ago. I then choose some radio show sound essentials you can find here: Haunted Atmo, 3 tone chime, Censor BEEP, Back To Your Regularly Scheduled Program.

Like I said on my last radio show update, I chose to use DaVinci Resolve to do my editing. So once the sounds were chosen and the audio recorded I started compiling them all into one project. There was a fair bit of audio editing I did to try to normalize the audio levels and fix any background noises. And while it is definitely not as good as it would be if we were able to record all together in a podcast studio, I made the best of what we had. So after tweaking the EQ, dynamics, background removal, cutting some of the speaking errors in the audio, and smoothing out the jumps between different cuts, the podcast was done!

I also used the podcast design I made last week for the image on SoundCloud where you can all now listen to Düşünür trying to catch Georgia and Andrea lying about the Aggressive Tech’s intentions.

This week was radio show week part 1! We had to finalize our show idea and started making all that will need to go into it. I talk about my progress with that monstrous task here. We also had to make a design for our show which you can look at here.

For my 2 audio assignments, I made a good morning aggressors! message to inspire cheerfulness and a little bit of fear in Aggressive Tech’s loyal supporters. And my weird product ad meets 80s radio show where I truly have no explanation for how I got to the final product idea.

Day 1: #tdc4450 C D Hobbit

Turning, she found herself face to face with a hobbit. “Curiosity, little one?” she chuckled, the corners of her lips curling into a wry smile. “Care to join me?” she offered, extending the pack of cigarettes toward him. With a hesitant nod, the hobbit accepted, taking a cigarette and watching with curiosity as the witch conjured a flame with a flick of her finger. The witch couldn’t help but wonder what other adventures the letter “C” might bring into her night.

Day 2: #tdc4451 Endangered poetry!

This is a translation of a poem written by Giulia di Rocco, a Romani poet.

There is a silence.

A silence that surrounds you

Inspiring terror…

But nothing can be done

before the silence

of death

Day 3: #tdc4452 Bicycle

A bicycle with a bed attached so when you ultimately get tired of pedaling you have a proper place to rest. Don’t worry about the extra weight!

radio show promo

This week we also had to create a design for our radio show. I decided to switch up my usual poster motif and try my hand at designing logos and I of course used the all-powerful Canva.

Our radio show’s whole idea is that these 2 “neutral” employees who are being interviewed are trying to tell people the “truth” about how the company is totally not sinister. So when I started making my logo I focused on the words: truth, radio, and the title of the show “Aggressive Testimonials”. This train of thought is what led me to my final look.

how goes ye olde radio show

This week we started really working on our radio show projects. My group found a way to have our show fit both Sydney’s character Georgia, Altan’s character Düşünür, and my own Andrea. Going off our original idea to do a tell-all about Aggressive Technologies, we decided on an interview-style show.

The work was then split up based on what role our character has in the show. Since it’s an interview-style show we’ve been drafting our questions and responses. We also split the work of making the intro, outro, and final compiling of the recordings. Since I love doing all things editing I volunteered to do the latter task so unfortunately the brunt of that work will hit me later next week.

I plan on using DaVinci Resolve for my audio editing specifically because I like how easy it is to manage large projects like this one, unlike Audacity’s very outdated UI. I’ve started putting some things we have already like the ads and bumpers but for now, that’s about it.

I think so far this process is working well. Obviously, you never know until it goes wrong, and that usually happens right at the end but I’m hoping our well-laid-out goals will lead us through.

weird product ad meets 80s radio show

Create a 30-45 second radio commercial for a product from the 80’s. Add in some background music and/or sound effects to make it sound like a real radio commercial.

80’s Product Radio Commercial

For this assignment, I decided to venture into the realm of nonsense to come up with the most bizarre ad I could think of. Meet the Jetpack Jammies.

After painstakingly putting that vague vision into words, I used Voicemaker to create the narrator’s voice. I then used Audacity to create the old-timey radio effect on the voice and to speed up the disclaimer.

I got my music and the jetpack sound here. I used the same radio effect on both. Finally, I used Lexica to make the weird image you see now.

good morning aggressors!

For my first audio assignment this week, I choose to do the Good Morning Message for The Village. I of course had a lot of fun making more ominous brainwashing content for this company and I hope other people do too!

It is always such a wonderful thing to hear a bright cheery voice delivering the Good Morning Message in The Village. Why don’t you bring some joy to the day and to your fellow Residents by creating and recording a wonderful message of community and cheer. Share your audio via Soundcloud and tag it appropriately.

Good Morning Message for The Village

Making this assignment was pretty simple since we’ve had time to get used to the various tools available.

First I used this text-to-speech tool to generate that cheery voice I knew this message needed. I then found that classic morning I needed music here. After getting both of those I did some quick editing using DaVinci Resolve’s Fairlight. And I know that that tool is generally used for far more complicated projects but I had been using it so much recently that it was where my cursor led me.

Finally, at the end of this assignment when I was about to upload it to SoundCloud, I felt that it was missing a photo for that final touch. So I generated one on Lexica and then edited the text on Photopea.

This week was the calm before the storm. We had to decide on a solid concept for our radio show and form our groups. We also had to add to our class’s AI tool laboratory and make a sales pitch a product that Aggressive Tech would either buy or put out of business. You can find that post here.

Day 2: #tdc4444 My addiction

I definitely wouldn’t be able to go a day without reading for fun. Even though it’s required for me to read as I go about my day, I definitely have to set aside time to read something I actually enjoy daily. From fiction novels to textbooks examining niche concepts, anything that excites my brain with new things.

Day 3: #tdc4445 Old & New

Newton doesn’t know what he would do without his espresso machine from Williams Sonoma. It grinds and steams his coffee grounds for him and leaves no mess behind so that he can spend more time doing random experiments.

andrea reviews ai tools here

In a big company like Aggressive Technologies, communication is important. From employees and bosses talking to the company speaking to the public, it has to be done efficiently and properly. That’s where I believe DeepBrain AI’s video creation software could save this company’s time while facilitating better communication.

First and foremost, DeepBrain AI offers an impressive array of realistic and diverse AI avatars, each capable of conveying your message with authenticity and impact. Some of them even have different positions you can place them in. While the avatars are still images, they still add the feeling of another person on the other side who cares.

Their natural text-to-speech generator ensures that the videos that are made sound as good as they look. With support for multiple languages, customizable tones, and pauses, the delivery can be tailored to suit the audience and message perfectly.

DeepBrain AI’s biggest tool is its powerful video generator. It allows you to simply input your text, whether it’s a topic prompt, URL, PDF, blog, article, or PowerPoint presentation, and their tools will go to work. It produces a video for you with a script being read, an avatar, and images. And while the videos they generate are never really perfect you have complete editing control that takes less time than making a video from scratch.

This software would not only save Aggressive Technologies time but could also be incorporated into their other software making it even better.
