What a week! Onto the Next !

Man, where do I start. This week was so much fun. definitely a lot more fun and interesting than week one. Don’t get me wrong week one was interesting learning about what DS106 was going to be about but this week we got to experiment with so many different assignments and elements of AI.

Assignment Banks

The assignment banks were quite fun for me. I love having the freedom to choose what assignments I can do from each category. The assignments varied within the categories giving me so many options to choose from, making it more fun and interesting. Of course, me being a sports fan I chose all the sports topics. I would have to say my favorite was definitely creating a sports poster for a team. I had fun messing around with an AI generator using different themes and prompts to create what I thought was the perfect poster.

Daily Creates

The daily creates were also fun. Going into it I didn’t really know what to expect and to my surprise I enjoyed each one. The aspect of not knowing what the next day’s topic was created suspense for me. As well as the fact they were random made that more fun for me because you didn’t know what to expect. I was eager to find out what the next day’s topic was. My favorite create was the one where you had to write a poem based on what you saw on a camera view of California. I wasn’t expecting this topic, I had no idea that websites like that existed. It was really cool seeing all the different types of cameras views available. I ended up choosing the camera displaying the Oakland Coliseum. It was so cool seeing the stadium lit up at night with all its fancy lighting. The scenery was majestic you had mountain ranges in the background with small house light up, office buildings lit up, cars passing on the highway, and of course the stadium itself.

Conclusion

Overall, this week was a lot of fun and I thoroughly enjoyed ever last bit of it. From working on the assignment banks to writing daily creates to using Dr. Oblivion to using different types of AIs. I can’t wait for what’s in store for next week. Until next time!

My Daily Creates and Other Blogs

Dr. Oblivion Meets the Avengers: Infinity War

While watching Infinity War I noticed the use of AI when it came to a couple aspects of the movie. For example, the Tony Stark aka Iron man’s suit. Stark constantly upgrades his suit with advanced technology, including AI assistance in the form of J.A.R.V.I.S. (Just A Rather Very Intelligent System) and later F.R.I.D.A.Y. (Female Replacement Intelligent Digital Assistant Youth). While these AI systems don’t play a central role in “Infinity War,” they are integral to his suit and strategy. Another example is Thanos, he employs advanced alien technology, including his army of robotic creatures called Outriders. While not explicitly AI, these beings operate autonomously and demonstrate sophisticated decision-making capabilities.

Dr. Oblivion Thoughts

Here are Dr. Oblivion thoughts on the usage of AI in Avengers Infinity War

The Techno-Optimist Manifesto

After reading the Techno-Optimist, I have to say there are some interesting points made. For example, the quote “Our civilization is built on technology.” I would agree with this statement. In our everyday life we are surrounded by technology. Our phones are a prime example. We use our phones daily to make calls, text people, gps for direction, and much more. In my opinion a running civilization requires communication with others and technology plays a huge role in that. Another example is cars and vehicles, in our civilization today day we use cars and vehicles to get from point A to Point B. We use them to get to and from work, school, and to carry out daily tasks. I’d say our civilization is definitely built on technology as it is necessary to survive in our day to day lives.

I was curious to see what our fellow Dr. Oblivion had to say about the quote “Our civilization is built on technology.” and here’s what he had to say.

I guess you could say me and Dr. Oblivion are on the same page with this quote. Until next time!

Introducing Leo Storm

Introducing Leo Storm, the innovator. Leo was born July 18, 1985, in Charlotte NC. Leo was the oldest of three boys. His father Mike Storm was also an engineer while his mother Amber Storm was lab technician. Growing up, Leo had a passion for building things. As a child his favorite thing to do was build Legos. His father was a heavy influence on Leo. Mike was a mechanical engineer and was always working on projects. Leo took this opportunity to shadow his father’s work. Which later played a role in him becoming an engineer himself.

Leo began his journey as an innovator by attending Harvard University, where he graduated top of his class with a degree in mechanical engineering. After Havard Leo got a job as an engineer for a tech company in California. Leo is still with company to this date. Leo has no wife or kids. He puts all his energy and efforts into his job and is always looking for ways to better himself and his work. This is a small glimpse of the life of Leo Storm. Leo looks forward to meeting everyone!

The BIG Apple meets AI!

For my third assignment I chose to create a poster representing a city of my choice. I decided to use New York City also known as the “Big Apple”. I chose NYC because it is one of my favorite cities to visit. There is so much to experience in the city. You can go shopping, enjoy the skyline view, visit museums, and much more. For the poster itself I decide to continue with the theme of AI in DS106. I asked an AI to generate a poster representing NYC with a modern and colorful theme. As shown the AI was able to display the crowded streets and office buildings you would typically see in NYC. I felt a more modern and colorful theme would catch more attention from viewers. Both these themes combined give the poster an amazing look that will for sure attract more tourists and visitors to the city.

A GIF you wouldn’t believe unless you watch it!

For my second assignment I chose to create a GIF of the best sports play in my opinion from this past year. This GIF is Nikola Jokic hitting a buzzer beater to win the game. This is one of the best highlights from this past year given how difficult the shot was. First off Jokic had less than 3 seconds to get the shot off over his defender with the game on the line. The Warriors and Nuggets are to very competitive teams. Secondly, location of the shot was not your average shooting distance or range. Jokic knew he had to take the shot with the game tied he threw it up and sunk it. Even with the pressure of the game, shot clock, and being guarded he managed to put up an impressive shot to seal the game for his team.
