Daily Create: Dave!
by Andrew Johnson
Since this is Dave Cormier favorite daily create, I wanted to bring forth a pic that shows the best Dave imitation.

This is my Codex Seraphinianus. The first weird veggie is a carrot infused with grapes stemming from the top. The second, in the top right, is a watermelon root with broccoli coming from the top. The veggie located in the bottom right is a red pepper with lettuce/ broccoli falling overtop of the pepper.

What Would Your Fit Bit Measure?
#tdc4456 #ds106 Idealized Data Gatherer
If you could have a FitBit-style device to measure something that can’t normally be measured that way, what would it be?
It would look like a hair clip to be worn as close to the scalp as possible. It would be measuring brain waves/activity looking at how much of the invisible load one is doing in running a household. The unseen stress of making everything flow. If you have children, it adds another layer. Is there a health problem in the family? The unseen important tasks would be tracked and measured. You may have felt you did nothing one day; this would show you didn’t.

Think about it there is so much to do when you run a household. Maybe there are no kids; there are pets, houseplants, bills, food etc. There are still many tasks that have to be done for the household to run. Who takes care of those? I have read articles that state women usually carry the brunt of the invisible load. Would it not be great if this could really be measured? I think we would all see that on a day we got nothing done a lot got done.

Artistic Adventures D.C. dos, Wk 10
by Greta Hammen

Weird vegetables can be found documented at Codex Seraphinianus. In Adobe Firefly, I tried several text prompts before ending with this AI generated combination of turban squash with tomatoes and peas inside. https://social.ds106.us/@gretahammen/112159581710667386. The colors are vibrant and striking! The green vegetable or fruit first, looked like a small watermelon, but it was not pink inside. I stopped at Giant on my way home from work to look in produce and it resembles a turban squash.

Radio on a roll
With a few exceptions, it sounds like everyone’s ds106 radio groups are running smoothly, and everyone is on track. I look forward to hearing the finished projects this weekend.
Dr. Oblivion’s advice here on sound quality and transitions is very much on point. (And bravo for making use of him.) A common issue is one of sound levels and balancing. When layering voices and background music and sounds, the background needs to be loud enough to be effective, but not so much as to be overpowering. This may require some experimentation. One of the benefits of having a group is you can get an objective opinion from them.
The Isaiah Beacon audio bits make good examples. The second one is interesting because the voice and background music are so familiar, like they’ve been used elsewhere, multiple times, so it feels like exactly what one would expect in a commercial.
One comment that normally comes up repeatedly during audio weeks in ds106 is how much people are bothered by the sounds of their own voices. But this semester, so many people are using artificial voices, so far, that that hasn’t happened. Some of the voices have a computer-generated quality to them, unlike Dr. Oblivion. It will be interesting to hear how that impacts the shows.
Radio listening, part II
The plan is to broadcast the completed radio projects on ds106radio during week 11. I’m hoping to bring Jim into the loop, which would necessitate a different broadcast schedule. My question for everyone is: Who would be available to participate in live listening and discussion at noon on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, April 1-3? I made a Doodle poll for this purpose, which will go out via email.
Depending on people’s availability, we may schedule noontime listening in addition to or instead of 7pm listening. I would like to get as many people as possible listening to as many shows as possible, because I am sure everyone will be impressed with everyone else’s work.
Behind the bot
I also need to share this video from Reclaim Today:
Michael Branson Smith talks a bit about what’s going on behind the scenes with Dr. Oblivion, and explains some of his occasional odd behavior. I would be very interested to hear people’s thoughts on this. In particular I’d like to know how Dr. Oblivion’s voice affects people’s reactions to what he has to say. Personally, I think the voice, cadence, inflection and accent all work together to convey a significant amount of information that is not included in the text of his responses, but familiarity colors my reaction.

The Splatter site is easy to use to create art in numerous ways. This is what I came up with. The pastels are so calming for me. https://social.ds106.us/@gretahammen/112154085362874440

Finish the prompt..
A witch smokes a cigarette in a city. She is thinking about the letter “C”. There is a hobbit standing right behind her… She is blind and is unable to sense the hobbit behind her.
I found this daily create interesting as I was able to be creative and finish the sentence with anything I wanted. Was anyone expecting the witch to be blind? I didn’t think so…

I made this picture using the bead art lab on bighugelabs.com. I found this website very fun and used other images just to see what they looked like for fun. I enjoyed this website and I recommend it to everyone.
