Video Project

by Andrew Johnson

Reflective Analysis

As I started the video project for this week, I went back to my original thoughts and ideas posted in Week 10 (What’s Your Plan?). I wanted to incorporate Dr. Oblivion into my video project so that I could ask questions and get a response to his thoughts on Aggressive Technologies. I think it worked out very well. In the intro, I wanted to make it seem gloomy and dark, to perhaps a time when everything is very modern, almost too modern. This allows for the viewer to become engaged in what is about to happen next. Throughout the whole experience, what I enjoyed most was answering Dr. Oblivions questions and formulating responses based off his questions. I actually picked this up while listening to a ds106 Radio Show last week and thought it was a terrific idea, so I went for it. Overall, it was a fun week working on this and I think it came out well tuned for my viewers.

Hope y’all enjoy!

On the Internet

For today’s daily create I am explaining what else is true about the internet. The Internet is a vast global network that connects billions of devices worldwide, enabling instant communication, access to information, and online services. It creates economic growth, facilitates cultural exchange, revolutionizes education, and fosters innovation. However, it also poses security challenges. There are many more factors of the internet, this is just a small glimpse of it.

Wow! This is Going Fast – Week 12

Overall, this week’s workload was lighter than usual aside from the need to complete the video assignment. Since I spent a lot of last week organizing my video project, this week’s work for me was limited to assembling the finished product. My video project can be viewed at Video Project. Since it was more enjoyable to create a visual component in addition to many of the same audio components, I must admit that I enjoyed the video project more than the audio one. I started working on the three daily creates for the week after finishing the video project: Daily Create #1, Daily Create #2 and Daily Create #3. Writing a nonet was the prompt for Wednesday’s daily create, which was a lot of fun for me as I had never done it before. I made an additional effort to be imaginative and adhere to the nonet prompt. All I could do this week after finishing the daily creates was look at the work of my classmates and comment where I could. It always fascinates me to see how other people complete their tasks and the thinking behind their decisions because I often feel that other people interpret the prompts and assignments differently than I do. I’m done for the week after making a few comments on my classmates’ assignments.

This week’s single assignment, the video project, was my favorite. Working with Rishi once more was enjoyable, just as it was with the audio project. I felt there were many parallels between the audio and video projects, at least in the methods my group used to complete them, but I found the video project to be more enjoyable because of its visual component!
I really wouldn’t alter a thing. I believe I did the best I could on each assignment. At this moment, I have no questions. As of right now, everything is completed accurately thus there aren’t any significant problems with my work.

Daily Create 4/11/24

The internet is one of the scariest places to be. Especially if you do not know what you are doing. With social media nowadays there are many creepy people hiding behind their screen due to the anonymity of the internet. As everyone should know, you should never put any personal information on the internet as it is there forever.

“Happy surfing.”

For today’s Daily Create, we were to build on the classic “On the internet nobody knows you’re a dog” cartoon. I wondered how Dr. Oblivion would respond to the query:

Then, in my infinite laziness curiosity, I asked the same of ChatGPT. It gave me a bland list, so I asked it if it could express the ideas in humorous metaphors. That didn’t turn out much better, but it did suggest that the internet was like “diving into a vast digital ocean where you can swim with majestic whales of knowledge or get caught in the undertow of clickbait and cat memes.” The underwater cat concept had potential, so I asked Copilot to draw me a picture.

an underwater scene of whales swimming over a seabed og cats on computers

They both brought up cats. It occurred to me afterwards that cats are highly correlated with dogs as well as the web, so maybe I should have expected that. Perhaps those cats also represent the digital overlords that the doctor warned us about.

Well, I heard Amazon was actually started by cats in order to get more boxes in homes for their incarcerated feline friends. Everything you read on the internet is true.

A simple internet search has confirmed what I read.

There are pictures everywhere of cats in Amazon boxes! I wonder if a certain immortal cat is actually the one behind all of this…

Nonet Poem:

Majestic mountains reach for the sky, Capped with snow, a breathtaking high. Forests green, a symphony of life, Teeming with nature, free from strife. Rivers flow, a soothing lullaby, Valleys deep, a pastoral ally. Flowers bloom, a vibrant display, Wildlife thrives, a wondrous array. Nature’s gift.

My poem celebrates the grandeur and wonder of the natural world, describing majestic mountains, lush forests & flowing rivers. Hope you enjoy
