For this final project, I wanted to expand on the story of Rikaro. I chose to continue the story after the hijacking of the TV. That was my video project. For this, I had an insider send an unknown detective a VHS that contained evidence on who this mysterious hacker was and their plan. It has audio of a famous Professor giving a speech to citizens that are against Aggressive Technologies and the unknown hacker’s. His speech is violently interrupted by a robot from Aggressive Technologies, but it is revealed to be Rikaro. Rikaro explains that he will kill this Professor and frame Aggressive Technologies to gain more supporters. He also adds that he will use bots to spread this narrative. I wanted to show some of the dangers of AI without it being too serious. There are researches that show the possibility of AI assisting hackers in infiltrating power plants to alter the temperatures, which can lead to explosions. I just altered this to robots.
I hope everyone enjoys the video. It took a little more work than I thought it would. Thanks for taking the time!
I put a lot of thought, planning, and effort in making this video, so I hope you all enjoyed it and learned something from it as well!
My thought process:
I wanted to incorporate and highlights parts of my character, myself, and the AI theme of this course. My character and I both love coffee, therefore, the setting of this video is in a cafe. I also snuck in my favorite iced latte recommendation in there. Additionally, I have background music that’s playing nonstop in the back, giving it more of a coffee shop vibe. Lastly, the topic of discussion is AI, in particularly some pros and cons and examples of each as well to make it a more informative video. I wanted to make this interactive as well so I created a GoogleForm where at the end viewers can visit the form and list of their pros and cons based off of their experiences with AI.
I incorporated audio, text, videos, sound, AI, my character, editing, and an interactive aspect throughout my project. I cut the text to fit the clip where the audio was spoken. However, I wanted to to generate the text as the audio played, but I could not get that to align properly and work. Besides that, there isn’t anything that I wish I could change or do better, I am pretty happy with how it all came out together!
To wrap up this week, I opted out of the daily creates just to give myself more time to focus on this final project. Now I’m off to view all of my classmates projects!
With the reminder of what I wanted to do, here is the video!
I wanted to upload it to youtube for other to see! I took video art and it reminded me of a project I wanted to do something similar to it! I worked all week on finding clips, filming my own clips, picking a song to use, and after everything, I am pretty proud of what I did!
I ended up making my project update on Tuesday, I think, as I ended up getting a lot of work done that night that I wasn’t anticipating doing. There’s not really a lot to say about this, just that I was really happy to have gotten so much done so soon, and my group had also gotten most of their work done as well! We were doing great!!
I talk about it much more in the actual post, but I was very pleased with this. I used so much of what I learned to do my parts in this, and my groupmates did an amazing job as well, and we really made something really cool!!
I’m grateful to have finished this in the time that I did. I was nervous that I’d be really late with mine due to having the flu last week, but I managed! And it’s not even 4 pm on Friday and we’re done, so I get to call it a day early. I’m so happy about that.
Very happy with my results, and I hope you all are too!
Overall, this week was fun!! I didn’t think I had much difficulty with my parts in the projects, and I was able to create good and interesting parts for our AI uprising video using what I have learned throughout the semester. I’m very grateful!!
I fear this may be my final weekly summary, or maybe there is one next week, so this is a little sad . . . but I’m grateful for all that I have learned!!
The final project above was fun to do. I had some ideas and some good people to work with. This exceeded my expectations of what we could do. Can I do all group projects with them forever?
Me, Sarah, Greta, Leila, and Sol put together this project. We wanted to showcase a bunch of news media revolving around an AI uprising.
We split our work up individually, working on our own things to all paste together into the final project. I’m not sure about the others, but I used websites such as Fliki to create TikTok-like videos filled with information of the AI uprising, and then I used InVideo to create the News-Like videos. I also made some of the headlines with the help of ChatGPT (because how ironic is it to have an AI make headlines about an AI uprising), and I made screenshots of said headlines by taking my own screenshots of real news sources and editing my headline overtop. Overall, this was the main bulk of it that took the most time. I don’t think I had many issues with the applications I used, besides annoying watermarks that are out of my control because I am not about to spend money on this, all went well!
I think I was able to combine everything I’ve learned throughout the semester into this, which was really fun. I did some audio editing, used some video applications and then I edited the first half together using OpenShot. I even did just some image creating with the headlines, which was a lot of fun. I used a lot of applications I discovered over the semester, even some new ones like InVideo, and I just overall had a really good time. It was nice being able to work on all of this and actually know what I was doing, which makes me think that I really have learned!
I’m not sure what else to say, just that I’m very grateful to have worked on this with my group, who put out excellent work, and I’m very happy with the final product.
The final project for DS 106. I came to this class scared of failure. I have not done much with computers and felt I was starting behind where most of the students in the class were. I was probably wrong. I have pushed myself to try something new every week or attempt to succeed at something I had previously failed at. In the final project I wanted to finally make my evil brick creation speak. I also wanted to try to recreate the magic of working in a group like in the radio project. I think I reached both of those goals.
My group all came through with great content. Everyone put in great effort to make content for the news broadcast. Destiny Sunrisen – destiny’s lil blog Was the editor for the first half of the news show and I put together the second half. It felt good to trust someone else with a hunk of the work and not be a control freak. I have checked out Destiny’s work throughout the semester and in Ravioli Radio and knew they could handle it. They do excellent work. Greta According to Greta – WordPress site (gretahammen.com) did the news anchor to tie everybody’s work together. It was also an important bit to make the whole piece feel connected and together.
. I am not good at delegating and trusting people to do things. I have think I have successfully done that this time. Marisol Sol’s Wrld – Bright like the Sun (mjuarez.com) came through as always with the great idea and video of the Ring Door Bell. Last but not least we got a new to use group member Leila Leila’s Corner – Her interlude (the-comeup.com). She created some fantastic news segments on self-driving cars and vending machines going after us. Everyone in the group did more than what I mentioned here. If you want to hear more about them, please click on the links to their blogs.
I created the chat in discord and a google doc for us all to stay organized. I put up a sample outline in the google doc for us to start with and content idea list. Everyone could add or change things at any time. I found videos of stuff I thought fit the AI uprising theme and put links to it on the google doc. The news show Idea gave everyone the opportunity to make different types of digital media. I was dead set on animating that brick if it killed me, so I didn’t use any of the video I found. (One video was an ad for a movie about a car tire that came alive. https://youtu.be/hVKgY1ilx0Y?si=LWg6bjTOq4ETqEf4) I also made some ridiculous posts on Facebook about AI. I then changed my profile picture and took a screen shot on my phone of the post a few days later. I then put the posts into photoshop and changed the name from mine (Sarah Bradshaw) to whatever moved me. I came up with the names a few different ways. Sally was what I named a favored doll as a child. Some of the names were picked for their amusing initials. And others you can just guess. I then cropped the image to size to be placed on a slide for the news segment. I added graphics and a voice over. The voice is AI from AI Voice Generator & Text to Speech | ElevenLabs name Matilda. I came up with all the writing and dialog myself. I did not use a chat bot. For the Dr Oblivion segment, he is a chat bot. I asked him a question twice and spliced both of his answers together and lip synced it to a video of him. I added the graphics in Priemer Rush to make it look more like a news segment.
I think the things I made really show what I learned to do this semester in class. I learned how to edit sound and video. I learned how to use generative ai to make things for me to use in my art. I made a brick laugh. What once was scary no longer is. Except for maybe an AI uprising.
Everyone in the group has different strengths and skills so I have no idea who spent the most time on this project. I do know we all came together with great work and put it together. Since it is an online class, I wouldn’t recognize anyone on campus if I sat next to them. I will miss them I am sure, when I have to do another group project especially. They were great to work with.
The final project is complete!! Rishi and I spent the entire week wrapping up and perfecting our final project. Unfortunately, I have been quite busy finishing my honors capstone project, so I was unable to provide a progress report earlier this week. Because we wrote the script last week, we spent the most of this week putting together the actual audio show. Rishi and I used eleven labs to develop the AI voiceover for our course characters based on the script we prepared last week. We experimented with numerous voices to see which one best suited our characters; Rishi ended up utilizing a customized voice, while I utilized Callum’s. After placing our scripts into eleven labs with the voices we chose, we imported those audio files into Audacity. After that, we added bumpers, commercials, and music to various parts of the show, resulting in a radio show lasting around 10 minutes. I’m quite delighted with our final project! We completed the project by uploading it to SoundCloud. Give it a listen below and let me know your thoughts.
How does this project represent what I have learnt this semester, you may ask? Because AI was central to so much of this course, Rishi and I wanted this project to be as well. We put together a script underlining the benefits and cons of AI, and then added AI voiceover (who were our course characters) to the already AI-themed show. I knew very little about digital, audio, and video technologies before taking this class, therefore I learned a lot. It’s quite cool to me because I uploaded several audios to SoundCloud and multiple videos to YouTube, demonstrating the variety of things I conducted throughout the semester. Using audacity, eleven labs, soundcloud, and developing a script combines a lot of what I’ve learned throughout this semester. I have learned that when you’re given an assignment, look for tools and devices that can help you do it better. I want to thank digital storytelling for educating me so much about the digital world!
My favorite part of the week was completing the final project. I must admit that completing the last assignment for a class always feels great. Now that I’m nearing the end of my academic career, with just one week remaining, it’s kind of sad that I’m finishing up all of my classes for the last time at UMW. Nonetheless, it felt fantastic to finish this final project, knowing I didn’t have much work remaining.
Honestly, I would not change anything at all. I believe I accomplished each task to the best of my abilities. I do not have any questions right now. Right now, everything is completed correctly, thus my work is not facing any serious challenges.
This week we were asked to complete our final project which I did complete on time. I was worried that I would not be able to get it in on time because I am currently driving from Virginia to California; however, it was done a day early!
I made sure to do my updates along the way of this two-week project and I am glad that I did not wait until the last minute to complete it. It took a lot of effort and time to create my show.
I did six different posts working up until my completion. If you would like to view or read about my experience, please click on the button below to view.
I chose not to do any day creates because I have been busy driving and packing that I barely had time to sleep. I am excited that I was able to take my work on the go and still experience my adventures.
