Don’t Drive Yourself Insane

For my design project, I wanted to make a bumper sticker because I appreciate its versatility. The sticker can function as merchandise for fans, they can put it on their car to show that they are a Femme and find like minded people, even if it’s just from a car honk. Another function of the sticker is that it can be used as advertising; if anyone wants to learn more about fearless femmes, they can follow the link on the sticker to learn more and a fan could be gained from this interaction. As a marketing major, I wanted to come up with a creative idea that would help promote the show without sacrificing the consumers wants. To make the sticker, I combined two templates from Canva. I liked the pink femininity of the right side, but the core of our show is TechNoir and I don’t want that to be lost in the girliness. I added the left side to contrast the pink which makes it feel just a touch more punk. To get the steering wheel to be pink and black, I used two pictures of the same steering wheel, one I kept black and the other I turned pink by turning the temperature, tint, saturation, and vibrance to one hundred. Additionally, I lowered and heightened other parts of the picture like brightness and shadows to get rid of any remaining black. Overall, I’m happy with how the sticker turned out, it looks like something I could see on my car and someone else’s. I also think it’s a great way to raise money by selling the sticker to dedicated listeners and bringing in new ones.

Radio show Promo video

I decided to make a promo video that our radio show hosts would be able to post on social media.

I created this video on Canva. I love using Canvas fun options for templates. I still wanted the vibe to be tech noir themed of course so I used darker neon colors.

I’m very familiar with using Canva now so this wasn’t too hard to accomplish.

If you feel like you’ve heard the background music to the video, that’s because you have!

In one of my earlier projects I used the same audio to create my own game. I felt the audio was very fitting to the vibe and scheme of the poster so I decided to reuse it.

Adding audio is a must, I feel like it always captivates an audience especially if it’s a catchy song. We as a group may decide to edit insert a group members radio bumper instead, both ways I think would look and sound great!

The thought of adding all of our course members “social media platforms” was mainly just a clever way introduce what class characters our radio show will be including.

I hope you like the promo video, Click here to watch:

Fatal Fems Intro

I decided to make the intro for our podcast because I was inspired by the other powerful women in tech noir. I think TechNoir’s genre was most popular in the 1980s-1990s therefore I feel that although the women characters are strong, they are overlooked. To make the intro, I used free sounds from Freesounds and BBC’s audio library. I also used Feminomenon by Chappell Roan and lines from iconic female TechNoir characters such as Jessica Rabbit, from Who Framed Rodger Rabbit, Rachael from Blade Runner, and Quorra from Tron: Legacy. I wanted to include sound effects where it sounded like a phone was being dialed, rung, and picked up, because we are a lifestyle podcast where listeners can call in and ask for advice. I also included the line from Feminomenon where Chappell says, “It’s a Fem” because our podcast is called Fatal Fems. Making the intro was relatively easy but it ended up taking me a long time to finish because it didn’t sound “right” to me. I used Adobe Audition to compile the sounds and I mixed and matched to figure out what sounds best where. The ending didn’t sound right to me at first, because it comes at a part in the song where the music is building up, so it sounded weird as an ending. I think what ended up helping the most for me, was that I tweaked the timing to slow it down. I’m not sure on why that ended up fixing it, but I did. Other things I did was deleting instrumentals and fading in/out of the music to transition clips.

Fearless Femmes Radio Bumper

Part of my contribution to “The Fearless Femmes” radio show is to create a bumper.

Similarly to the intermission I created for the show, I wanted to give it that mysterious vibe with a glitchy static sound effect to give it the “tech noir”vibe. Though the sound bumper I created is a lot more upbeat the the intermission.

I used the same tools to create the bumper as I did for the intermission which were, Audacity for editing and syncing, Narakeet for transcribing a script into a voiceover, and Freesound for upbeat sound effects.

I hope you enjoy listening to the bumper, you may just hear it agian in our radio show.

Sincerely, Kristen

Fearless Femmes Radio Intermission

I decided to do a radio bumper for my radio group “The Fearless Femmes”. This is a lifestyle call in show where we talk about all types of topics and listen to listeners stories and topics as well.

I wanted to make the intermission mysterious yet futuristic at the same time to fit the “tech noir” aesthetic.

I used the Audacity app, the online site Narakeet, and the site FreeSound to create this intermission bumper.

I used Narakeet to transcribe my script into a cool sounding voice over. I used Freesound to find different glitchy/static sound effects that felt fitting to the show and synced them all together in audacity.

I think I’ve improved a lot on syncing and editing in audacity since the last time we used the app in class.

I’m no sure if we will be using this intermission in our radio show, but regardless I think its great improvement from the last audio assignmennt.

Hope you enjoy listening.

Sincerely, Kristen

Bumper Sticker

This is my bumper sticker for the Noir Game show. The joke is meant to be against humans degrading, yes. I am basically imagining that Dr. Oblivion is saying this and being rude and sarcastic. So, it is a joke at the expense of humans made my artificial intelligence something I imagine it would do a lot if it could. So, I really dug into that, going with my idea that Technoir is a time where AI rules while giving man a false sense of secretly making them think they are in control. That is why I chose a lightbulb attached to a brain rather than one or the other. Makes you think, doesn’t it?

I made this using Canva very happy to know that there was already a template for the bumper sticker, I struggled trying to figure out what font to use since it’s futuristic but also bumper sticker, I chose a light teasing vibe over something stiff and robotic. So, for once bubbly text rather than glitchy. Of course you are still being mocked. For coloring I wanted to stick to blue but admittedly it’s a but dark, but I dislike bright colors. Still, it came out nice.

Radio Show Intro

Radio Intro – Assignment Bank

This is a short intro I made with the help of the good Dr. He offered sass and as unwanted opinion, but I knew he would. For this I used the Audacity software to make it and used sounds from Freesoung.org

Despite this being a game show, I leaned into the tech noir and cyber theme more than some cheerful game show vibe. With a bit of altering and addition of that rude sarcastic voice it came out well! Had to try to adjust the pace at which he was talking which was harder than I shall admit still I managed to do it. Gonna try a smooth transfer into the background music next! Using splicing and the tempo changer again should work!

Marketing for Aquaphor

For my first audio assignment of the week, I chose the Create a Commercial assignment, using the opportunity to make something to incorporate into the upcoming radio show project. I chose to do aquaphor because it is something that I frequently use as chap stick and for personal hygiene. I put this together in a soothing way, in order to eventually create some contrast between our radio show and the commercial iself, and also because it fits the them of the product.

Radio Show Commercial – Lil’ Bot Helper

For the last assignment of the week, I decided to make a commercial for our radio show. When our group, the Fearless Femmes, met up, we split up the work by who will do some commercials and who will do some radio bumpers. I decided to do a commercial, because I thought it would be fun to think of some ad’s that would be played in a futuristic, tech-noir world. My first thought was to do a robot helper that would help with everyday tasks. Firstly, I made a quick script, one that would grab the audience’s attention. I then used the another text-to-speech voiceover that makes it more robotic to add a voice to the Lil’ Bot Helper. Next, I found some background music that fit the vibe on Pixabay.com. Lastly, I put it all together on SoundTrap to make it sound cohesive. Out of the two assignments, this was definitely my favorite as I had a lot more creative freedom.
