I decided to create two different audio commercials for my groups podcast Days of Crime & Roses. Both of these commercials are centered around safety and protection products which I felt was important given to the central theme of the podcast being Crime. After listening to a crime podcast, it makes sense for the audience to be more skeptical of their own privacy and will be more inclined to purchase a product that is able to give them that reassurance that they need.
The first product ad SafeGuard was created using a simple suspenseful audio loop file on Pixabay and a script that I put together with the help of ChatGPT after giving it a prompt around an online privacy product.
The second product ad NightWatch was created using a creaking door sound as the intro, soft footsteps sound, an alarm sound, and a different suspenseful backround track all from Pixabay. I gave ChatGPT a prompt around a home security product.
I recorded both audio scripts through voice Memos on my phone and used an online browser to convert the file into a .wav format in order to drop it into Audacity.
This week was a busy one in the world of ds106 I created multiple project that will hopefully be useful when creating our final draft. To begin I created a commercial for our upcoming Noir games podcast with help from the good ole doc. Next I created a intermission for our radio show that reminds the viewer to get outside touch some grass and get a breath of fresh air, then I created a Noir games logo using canva which originally I didn’t like but after some much needed editing have grown to quite enjoy. To conclude the week we were responsible for 3 daily creates this week which I was able to get done: the first was at list something that confused us, next I punch-carded a part of the Danny Phatom theme song one of my favorite shows from my childhood, and to end the week I attempted to copy the famous Italian opera singer Giuseppe De Luca pose and was successful but the picture says otherwise.
This week had a heavier workload compared to last week. Working on the radio show has been a bit stressful in terms of timing, but I’m confident it will all come together just fine. On the bright side, the Daily Creates were really enjoyable, and I had a lot of fun with them this week.
This week’s summary will be brief in terms of details, but rest assured that the work is complete, and I put effort into each assignment. Looking forward to sharing our final show with you next week!

Assignments Completed for the Radio Show:
Audio Assignments:
Create a breaking news story. This should be fake news. You should create a dialogue and have an AI read it using text to speech. There are several free programs. One possibility is Colossyan.com. Mix in a news jingle to make your story sound legit. You can find some jingles on freesound.org. Be sure to give credit if necessary.
Be creative, funny, or serious. The choice is yours. Just make it sound realistic.
I used HeyGen for the voice because I wanted to keep the tone light and avoid creating a serious or upsetting breaking news story. Instead, I went with something I wish would happen in real life. After generating the audio, I exported it and brought it into Soundtrap. From there, I made a few minor edits to clean it up and added a classic news broadcaster theme song to give it a “news” vibe. Overall, it was a pretty simple process, but I think it turned out well!
This week was mainly full of comunication between the group and trying to figure out what direction we wanted to go with the show. We eventallu came up with a idea everyone agreed on and proceeded to create a outline with script.
The audio assignment were pretty simple and i completed them by using soundcloud and a soundcloud downloader to turn the soundcloud link into a downloadable file. Also for the Spooky season assignemnt i used a audio editing software to shorten and put the sound clips together.
The daily created were pretty easy I found thursdays one with the digital punchcard based off of what message was type was pretty interesting.
While brainstorming ideas for our podcast theme, Rylie suggested a more scrapbook/collage look. I took the idea and put my own spin on it, going to Canva looking for an old newspaper graphic for the background. I found a graphic that fit the idea, and I adjusted its transparency and lighting to be more subtle. I then browsed through the Spotify crime podcast genre to gain some inspiration. I noticed many of the titles in the genre to be very bold and easily visible, so I took a bright yellow empty caution tape graphic (which fits the crime theme) and put our title in it. To finish things off, I found a scrapbooked rose graphic and added some elements to it like the blood dripping off the petals to give a more eerie vibe. The poster is something that is not too busy but easily captures the elements of vintage and crime.
Here is a poster I created for the sho, this can be used to advertise and promote the show. It is a simple black and white contrast spilt down the middle to play into the title of the show “The Opposites”. I also added black and white radio waves to also go with the black and white theme it also takes insperation from the yin yang symbol which also is a symbol for opposites. Lastly i added a little “On Air” neon sign in the bottom corner opposite from where i placed the title, this sign is just a simple detail that is something you would see in a recording studio
Radio Show Progress Update
Our team has made great progress on our radio show! We’ve set up strong communication, finalized our theme, and completed our script.
Staying Connected
To keep everyone on the same page, we created a Discord chat. It’s our go-to place for discussions, brainstorming, and updates.
Our Script and Theme
After discussions, we’ve agreed on a theme and script. The theme guides our content, and the script ensures a well-structured, engaging show.
What’s Next?
Now, we’re moving to the recording and production phase.
For my first audio assignment I did the Radio Show Intermission.
I see our radio show being more of a podcast situation. So I made my intermission similar to what I thought the intermission for Limetown Season 2 was like. Except for it going to commercial I make the intermission longer than just a few sounds.
I started with a sound of water dripping in a cave from Free Sound and duplicated the second drip as that was the one I liked better. I then went to a text to speech converter and had 5 different recordings of different voices saying each word of “Days of Crime and Roses will be back” and cut that together in Audacity. I then found a piano that sounded melancholy on Adobe Stock called “Who Takes Care of You” and once I heard more of the song and added it to Audacity I realized that I wanted to time the water dropplets to the beat of the music! So I did that and Im happy with how it came out.
