GIF

Assignment #2

A giant woman with eccentric blue hair points at Ryan Gosling's character.

I have never made a GIF before, so I would count this as a first for this assignment! Although I did not pick my all-time favorite or least-favorite movie, I chose to do one of my favorite movies that are apart of the tech-noir/cyber punk genre, Blade Runner 2049. I made a GIF from Blade Runner 2049 because it perfectly captures the essence of the tech-noir genre, a fusion of futuristic technology and noir-inspired storytelling. There’s something weirdly beautiful about its world, a sprawling dystopia drenched in neon and rain, where every frame feels like a staring at a piece of art. For me, creating a GIF from this film was about more than isolating a visually stunning moment; it was about preserving and sharing the atmosphere that defines the genre. In tech-noir, the technology isn’t just a backdrop, it’s a character, deeply intertwined with the human life. The GIF I chose captures a moment where the main character feels truly isolated, even with his once cherished companion standing in front of him. It’s a way to distill the soul of the film into a loop, reflecting the endless, cyclical nature of the questions it asks about what it means to be alive. Creating this GIF felt like paying homage to a genre that explores dystopian themes and what our advancements in technology could lead us to in the future.

Iceberg Right Ahead!

Visual Assignment

Create a GIF

I decided to combine the two most crucial scenes from the movie Titanic. One was when they hit the iceberg, and the other when the ship sank. Both did not occur at the same exact time, but I thought it was interesting to sum it into one scene for my gif.

I used GIF Maker to create the gif and Adobe Stock is where I retrieved the full video from.

first try at gifs and succeeding?

I did the Say It Like The Peanut Butter assignment from the assignment bank because I’ve always wanted to learn how to make gifs. I chose the movie Black Swan because when I was thinking of movies with scenes that capture its essence, Nina’s wing flutter movement immediately came to mind. I think this movement she does completely captures the movie as it is the character’s move key move during the ballet.

To make the gif I used this Animated GIF Maker I found where you compile all the images and with a few quick settings choices, it makes a gif. I tried this a few times as I knew I needed a lot of snapshots to create a gif that’s not too choppy but I severely underestimated how many I would need. I uploaded both of my attempts, the second one being the better of my tries and I stopped after that one because it felt like a smoother gif would require me to basically just record a video.
