Differing AI Views – Video Project

This week, I interviewed my family and friends about their views on AI to get a sense of the differing views of this new future that’s upon us.

It was really interesting hearing these different views. It was also really hard to hold back my own thoughts, but I did, because I wanted this to be unbiased and not about me.

I put my plans in this post last week, and I wish people would comment on my posts more and tell me if I’m being overambitious, because I think I could’ve saved myself a lot of stress if someone just said, “hey, relax . . . you don’t have to do so much.” I used to get a lot of comments! I guess now I’m just sad that I only get around one or two a week.

Okay, no more negativity. I split my interviews up throughout the week due to time. I interviewed my brother, Bryce, on Saturday, my dad, Brian, on Sunday, my friend, Lorelei, on Tuesday, and my sister, BayLee, on Thursday. I had different people intended to interview, but had to drop them due to complications of their own time. It originally was not going to be mostly my family, but I had to work with what I had.

Interesting thing, my brother, Bryce, is getting married today! So that’s in my later plans for the day!

After recording, I ended up putting everything together Thursday night and Friday morning. I planned to edit this together on my computer, but then I couldn’t send the recordings from my phone to my computer, and it took literally 4 hours to send 3 of the videos to my Google Drive, and I just gave up and thought it’d be better to do it on my phone through iMovie. So I did.

Editing was fun! I have fun cropping out all the “ums,” and it was so nice watching the minutes go from like 36 minutes to 20. If I had to upload a 36 minute video, I really think I would explode into a million pieces. Editing was actually also easy. It’s not like I usually do this, or have experience with it, but I understood it. iMovie was relatively easy. Until it wasn’t.

Exporting. Never again. Never. First it said export failed, then it said I had no storage, and then . . . I deleted all of my storage AND IT WORKED!! I EXPORTED IT!! I have never been happier, oh my god this was a mess.

Overall . . . this was fun! And stressful! But, I’m just happy to have it done.

Video Project: AI in Space & Skis

Let’s start this off with my video:

Now the story behind it:

I wanted to have my video incorporate AI and Dr. Oblivion. Therefore, I made Dr. Oblivion a CEO and Steve an employee at the company, World of Oblivion. Steve is an AI, specifically a robot who sits at his desk all day in front of his computer figuring out ways to increase his capabilities and efficiency for the company. Dr. Oblivion has recently been noticing how tired Steve is and he doesn’t want Steve to do any work wrong since his job is critical. Therefore, Dr. Oblivion tells Steve that he will be getting to go on a virtual vacation to take a break and recharge. Steve is confused at what that is but he is also intrigued so he decides to go. Steve gets to virtually explore skiing, the Eiffel Tower, and space! He has to do so virtually since he does not have the capabilities yet to endure freezing temperatures and outer space. When Steve returns he is energized and ready to successfully complete his work tasks leading to a happy boss and growing company!

My thought process:

When I was initially thinking of what to do, I knew it had to be something completely different than anything I’ve done before. That is to ensure that I can keep myself entertained while creating this and make it more creative since I’m starting from scratch. I choose the idea of vacation since it would be easy to find sound, images, and videos. I chose virtual because it could be easily displayed as well as it goes along with the AI theme. Going off the AI theme, I feel like lately AI has been utilized so much for various things. Just like when humans are working too hard and need a break, I made the story to where it’s AI’s aka Steve’s turn for a break/vacation. I started off with an intro of Steve and then went on to the actual story. Once the short story is complete, Dr.Oblivion ends the video off with a short goodbye message.

The tools I used:

This video has a mix of audio, videos, text, graphics, and AI-generated text-to-speech all edited into one video. I used Dr. Oblivion’s video for the parts of him speaking. To retrieve all of my videos and sounds, I used the site Pixabay. For my text-to-speech, I used an AI generator, TTSMP3. Lastly, I used Canva to put all the clips together and make one cohesive video. Additionally, the images/graphics on the slide along with the text was also from Canva.

Overall, I am proud of my video and I was able to do it the way I had planned to last week. I only wish it would be longer, but I didn’t want to keep adding on to the story to where the viewer wouldn’t know the main point. One thing I wasn’t able to get was Dr. Oblivion’s exact voice for his voiceovers. However, I did manage to find a voice online that sounded almost like him. Let me know what you guys think of it, hopefully you aren’t tired of seeing Dr. Oblivion by now!

AI For Our Future

Video Project

As I described in my video plan last week, my video project revolved around a debate between my character, Isaiah Beacon and Dr. Oblivion. The video starts off with Isaiah preaching about the dangers of anti-AI sentiment in higher education. He then says that he has set up a formal debate between himself and Dr. Oblivion. I decided to make the AI-version of myself be the moderator because it was just funny to me and made this more entertaining to make. After Dr. Oblivion and Isaiah both answer three questions related to the use of AI in higher education, Dr. Oblivion is the clear winner. Isaiah Beacon then says he will establish his own university to undercut the damage of secular education.

This project was super fun to make! The final product is very goofy and awkward looking but I think that this style just made the process more fun and I was laughing throughout the whole process, so to me it was a success! I didn’t really run into any technical hiccups, it was mostly just time consuming.

I used a few different tools for this project. I found an AI tool online called gooey.ai that added the lip sync animation. Using this tool was much easier than the wav.lip tool that I was never able to figure out the last time. All gooey.ai needed was the image and the audio and it produced the animation within a few seconds. I got the audios from a few different sources. For Isaiah’s voice, I used elevenlabs.io, which was the same place I got his voice from for the radio project. I used Narakeet for my robotic voice, and of course I downloaded the Dr. Oblivion audio for his voice. I used Canva to edit all of the clips together. I added the book flipping video and audio using their elements, as well as their clapping audio. I also used their background removal tool so I can add more environment appropriate backgrounds to each of the scenes.

Reflective Analysis

As I started the video project for this week, I went back to my original thoughts and ideas posted in Week 10 (What’s Your Plan?). I wanted to incorporate Dr. Oblivion into my video project so that I could ask questions and get a response to his thoughts on Aggressive Technologies. I think it worked out very well. In the intro, I wanted to make it seem gloomy and dark, to perhaps a time when everything is very modern, almost too modern. This allows for the viewer to become engaged in what is about to happen next. Throughout the whole experience, what I enjoyed most was answering Dr. Oblivions questions and formulating responses based off his questions. I actually picked this up while listening to a ds106 Radio Show last week and thought it was a terrific idea, so I went for it. Overall, it was a fun week working on this and I think it came out well tuned for my viewers.

Hope y’all enjoy!

Hello AT the camera is on you!

For this project, I wanted to go for the campaign video vibe. Which I will say I did so well! I hand-crafted each of the frames that you see on the screen, yes all of them. That took me about 4 hours total just to make and then I had to edit all the clips together and add a video from Wav2lip which took about another 2 hours. I struggled hard with the audio syncing in any of my videos. I think that the programs that I used were taking up too much memory on my mac which I found out towards the end. The upsides of the project were that I learned how to use animation assist on procreate and I created my first animation!! I also learned how to use Wav2lip script to make characters talk. The only thing I wish I had more time for is to create more slides for the audio and to be able to make it sync better. which I will have to figure out at a later time. I also used eleven labs, after it being mentioned in the radio broadcasting last week which really gave a human touch to the whole thing! It was a complete pivot from my original plan but I love it and I hope you do too! It was really nice to see ALL of the things that I learned in this class come all together.

Video Project!!!

This week we were tasks with actually bringing out video project plans to life and so Julius and I decided to take a walk through a futuristic city that was filled with different AI elements to see how they impacted the world. There were multiple examples of how AI was being used in the city, such as within houses, the healthcare field, and finally, the entertainment sector. The video starts off with a cityscape were Julius and Xander are entering the city and they notice all the technology around them, they then move into a house where they examine all of the AI elements within the house. Second, they move into a hospital like setting where all of the AI elements that are being incorporated by the healthcare sector are being analyzed, and finally the entertainment sector is analyzed and all of the AI elements are pointed out to the viewer. While this is happening, there are various video clips playing in the background that are relevant to what the current talkings points are. The video has a clear title and ending to meet one of the requirements and any gaps in the discussion are filled with music so the viewer is not left with just bare pictures. The video itself was created through a series of medium-difficulty steps. The first step was to actually create the script and this was probably the easiest of all the steps and took the least amount of time. Following that, we needed to find a way to make AI-generated video clips that we could in the video and so we decided to use a platform called Runway, which allowed us to give the AI bot a script and it would generate a 4-second clip based on that script. Once the clip was created, we were able to extend the clip up to 4 seconds at a time and this was helpful in some situations where the clip needed to be on screen for more than 4 seconds. Once the clips were created, my partner and I used Audacity to record our lines and export them so that they could be used while putting the whole thing together. Everything was put together using OpenShot Video Editor, a application that we have become very familiar with by now, and following the script and the video clips we were able to seamlessly put the video together. This was the longest part because it took some time to make sure that the lines matched up with the actual clip being shown on screen. Other than that, the project went pretty smoothly overall and was able to efficiently use me and my partner’s time to make sure we got everything done. You can find the video down below. Hope you enjoy!
