Where is SpongeBob?

Not sure why the beginning is so blurry… YouTube is way better looking.

My main objective was to have SpongeBob on the video and using characters from SpongeBob to make my whole video. I felt like I was restarting on my project but that is okay because I least I know that I can not use animation. I found my news person on YouTube, and I used the program in order to make him say different phrases. The phrases I used were my own wording, but I did the text to speech to get his voice. The news person was not hard because I was working with the program when we were first introduced to it, I did all of my problem solving back then.

During my making of this video, there was a lot of trial and error when it came to animation. Just so everyone knows and understand, you can NOT use animation in colab.research. I tried so many times and wasted so many hours thinking I was using the program wrong, so I started reading those error messages and it kept telling me a face was not found. It finally clicked. NO ANIMATION.

After I got the news person all finished, I started on Dr. Oblivion which was way easier than the news person because the video was already ready for me however I did put it into clipchamp to make the video shorter so it won’t take a super long time in the program. I was so excited that I was able to get the program to work so smoothly.

Next, I had to figure out what to do about my SpongeBob voice and video situation.

For the voice I used a website called Media.io which it did not have the best SpongeBob voice, but it was the only website that was not going to charge me, so I took it and ran with it. I just typed what I wanted him to say and in about 5 minutes I got it, and I was disappointed with how it sounded but I mean hey! It was free.

Here is the dialogue for the video: (This was the draft before starting the program and editing)

Introduction person: Welcome to the 5pm news and we start off by saying that Artificial Intelligence has the human society nervous because of how far technology is coming. We have many people upset or angry that now even Tv shows are making it seem like AI is good. We have tv shows like SpongeBob that is doing stand up comedy about AI.

*video of SpongeBob using: A son asks his father why does he speak so quietly at home?

The father replies because there is artificial intelligence that listens to everything we say.

The son laughs, the dad laughs… and Alexa laughs.

Introduction person: Aw yes, the square yellow guy that always makes young kids laugh are even telling jokes about AI. Who knows if SpongeBob is good or not, Dr. oblivion would like to come onto the air.

  • What I asked Dr. Oblivion: Do you think AI is SpongeBob?

Dr. Oblivion: “Oh sure AI…

 Introduction person: Who knows for sure what will happen in the future but we know that SpongeBob square pants will never be lived down. Alrighty folks, that is everything for 5pm news. Have a good night!

For the video, as you may have noticed, there is no video of SpongeBob talking. I spent so much time and energy to find something, anything, and websites. All the accounts I created on the websites just for them to tell me that I need to pay. I hate to say that I gave up, but I gave up. I was running out of time for the assignment, so I had to think about something quickly and I thought, “you know how when you watch SpongeBob sometimes it is the tv static.” BAM! An idea. I was so excited.

I got the static from YouTube again and it helped connect my different parts together of my video. I also used two of the SpongeBob waiting time frame to really draw the SpongeBob vibe into my video without having the visual of him. But something was still missing from my video…ahh yes music in the background. I made sure to add the SpongeBob song while he is talking. I used the same song in the intro while the news person was talking just very quietly.

I got all the pieces I needed and then I had to put them together using clipchamp, which was not that bad, it was just a lot of clicking, deleting, moving around parts. It took me about 2 hours to complete all of the editing, transitions, and rewatching of the video.

All in all, I enjoyed the project, but it was a learning experience. After I finished it and I watched it for the final time, I was happy how it turned out but:

I will definitely give myself a hug because there would be a lot I would change now that I know how everything works with the program. I would add more dialogue talking about the static and make it connect to AI taking over the news show. Thank you to whoever read this post and watching my video.

Video Project > Audio Project

The video project was the only task assigned to us this week. Read this article to learn more about the project planning that Rishi and I completed: Video Project Plan. We discovered that it would be difficult to incorporate our course characters into the final video when we were putting the project together. Therefore, we made the decision to use AI to create brief, 8-second videos of every segment we had scheduled for last week. Next, we would use the audio from our script to overlay the video segments. In order to seamlessly transition between the various components of the video, we incorporated a few additional photos featuring music overlays. The general approach to this project reminded me a little bit of the audio project as both required the creation of a script with audio and music overlay, but this project required visual elements as well. We made the decision to concentrate more on regular AI for this project and less on aggressive technologies. In our video, the AI-filled universe is discovered by our course characters, who then explore it all. I am pleased with the outcome of our video; please watch it below and share your thoughts!

Video Project Plan

For my video I’m not 100% sure exactly what I’m going to do. However, I have brainstormed some ideas. I know I what to incorporate my created AI character Leo Storm. I was possibly thinking maybe a video version of his day in the life. Just like my radio show but in video form. I thought this idea was pretty cool. Turning words into images of Leo’s life. Another idea I had was creating a video of Dr. Oblivion and Leo having a Q&A almost like a podcast. My plan is to decide for sure what I am going to do this weekend and start the video making process Monday or Sunday. I’m looking forward to this project.

Video Project Ideas

For this project, I want to expand upon the lore of Rikaro’s world. I mentioned how Rikaro lost his parents at a young age, but was taken care of by an insane engineer that created weapons to rebel against the country. I want to create a video that involves this engineer that I haven’t fleshed out yet. I looked through the Internet Archive and saw many old time videos and propaganda that would work well with the themes of war that Rikaro is involved in. I might try to find a black and white video of a man talking to the camera claiming to be that engineer and speaking optimistically of society and technology. This would be a contrast to who he was when taking in Rikaro. My ideas might change later, but this is the plan for now. The animation will be done with Wav2Lip.

Video Plan

My video plan will build off of my radio show. I want to find a video of one of the shadowy, ominous figures that usually has the deep voiceover, but make it my character discussing things about Aggressive Technology.

On the radio show, my character was interviewing and trying to expose AT employees, so I will do more of a deep dive into the points brought up by the employees. My character will spend time discussing in depth certain points like:

  • The use of surveillance technology in public
  • Carter, who has been jailed for several years and claims to be set up by AT
  • The true depth of AT’s data
  • AT’s lobbying effort
  • How “safe” everyone’s data is
  • The “enlightened council”
  • The 100% accuracy of identification technology
  • Bank account information being stolen
  • The “Aggressor family”
  • How AT technology improves peoples lives
  • The “transparency” of AT

I’m excited to fully write the script and get to editing the video for it! Hopefully, I can discuss with my group and see if they have any ideas for other things I can talk about too!

Overview: For my video project, I plan on making it around Dr. Oblivion and his AI employee, Steve. Steve has been working really hard and now is extremely tired and shows signs of DIGITAL fatigue. Dr. Oblivion is going to send him on a virtual vacation so that he can come back to work energized.

The Outline:

  1. Introduction
    • Starts with Steve being very tired and in need of a break.
    • Dr. Oblivion joins in and introduces Steve to his virtual vacation, Steve is confused but intrigued.
  2. Virtual Vacation
    • Steve goes on a ski trip.
    • Steve visits famous landmarks.
    • Steve goes to space.
  3. Conclusion
    • Steve returns as a ball of energy and his vacation highlights.
    • Dr. Oblivion is seen in the back smiling and content that Steve got his time off and enjoyed it.

Not sure how well I’ll follow through with this plan but I seem to find the story entertaining so I will be able to easily create and talk about it! Let me know what you guys think, I’m open to suggestions!

To Interview Everyone – Video Project

I have been thinking about what I was going to do allllllll week long, saving this for the last minute because I haven’t been sure on what I want to do. I imagined I would be doing something with Sol, but after rereading through the assignment, I realized I don’t even have to include them.

I love Sol, but I can’t imagine using someone else’s face to be them, and I have zero time to work on animating (I have 2 papers to work on this week, too!), which was my original plan.

I spent some time going through the list of plans people have already have for inspiration, and I felt sad because I couldn’t think of anything yet. Everyone had good plans, but I was lost and frustated . . .

So, while doing my best at brainstorming (word vomitting in a Google Doc until something makes sense), I followed Sarah’s tutorial that she sent in our discord group chat and posted and decided to try again at LipSyncing Dr. Oblivion, which I tried for hours weeks ago and could not get it to work at all . . . and low and behold . . . I did it!

There’s nothing to it because I was just testing, but BAM! I DID IT!!! Thank you thank you thnak you my anxiety lowered so much.

So, the game plan? Let’s discuss:

An interview. Of course, what else would it be? However, a real interview, with real people, and Dr. Oblivion, in which I will be asking them about their thoughts on AI. Here is the cast:

UHH OHH A Video

I will be using a video from an old episode from SpongeBob while he is doing standup comedy. I found this video to hopefully be easy to navigate. I am not sure if our video is supposed to be longer or shorter than 60 seconds.

The script will be funny jokes relating to AI and the crowd really is not enjoying it so he starts talking about Aggressive Technologies is a good place to work and the crowd thinks it is funny because a lot of people do not like them. However, Sandy is Josh’s girlfriend and she does not like being the only one in the room who believes in Aggressive Technologies.

Something along those lines but my mind is always changing on what I want to do. So things might change but I think it would be a fun thing to create and see how well it will work with the videos and audio I would be using.

Hopefully the video won’t take too long but you never know how long something will take in this class.

Watch, Read, Listen

  • Watch: To start this week, I watched the weekly video on assignments that were due for this week. Off of that, I completed my daily creates, my favorite one being Daily Create: 04/05 because it was the perfect theme that I have been waiting to complete. It was fun and exciting to see everyone’s daily creates this week because they involved what was going on outside in our daily lives such as this Daily Create.

Listen & Read: Another assignment I wanted to complete was listening to ds106 Radio and producing a post about my listening experience. Here’s the link, Listening Experience. I found all the radio shows to be full of engagement. The ones I listened to engaged the listener to different aspects of AI, some even used Aggressive Technologies as the base of their show. When I joined the discord for ds106 while the radio shows were taking place, reading the numerous comments about what my fellow classmates liked/ disliked was a great piece of class participation. Thank you for all that enjoyed my radio show, Three Point Chatter.
