VIDEO ASSIGNMNETS

FAKE PROPAGANDA Assignment

Even though this video is the shortest video I have, it took me the longest to do. I first started with the ideas that I wanted to showcase in the video that represented my character. Lady Bird is someone who is anti-government and corporations so she would be anti-AI. Therefore, this video is seeks to get more people to pay attention to what is going on and how corporate greed will be the end of art. Once I had my idea, I started to collect clips and put them in my premier pro sequence. I used from the internet. Getting videos from Youtube was a struggle again however, I screen recorded them and it worked however some of the videos look a little staticky.

Once I had all my videos I started to shift which videos were in my timeline, and the storyline that I wanted to convey. Then I created a script and did a voice over. I also used artlist.ai to choose my music, when choosing my music I wanted to use a sci-fi theme which I think worked out. Premier pro allows me to stack the audio which meant that I was able to mix the music and voice overs well, without overpowering one.

My character is also someone who has taken the dangers of corporations into her own hands and needs more people to join her, and this fun video was a way of doing it.

Of Most Important – Assignment

For this assignment I had to tap into a little creativity outside of what I usually do. It was pretty cool coming up with my own character traits that could be anything. The things I choose highlighted more integral aspects of my characters life. For this video, I used pictures as putting small videos together didn’t really fit the look I wanted.

I did not have a set order for how I wanted the pictures to show up, I decied the order after I had written the script and found a flow. I then went to artlist.io to choose a calming audio for the background and added captions to make it more accessible.

Spoil a Movie in 30 Seconds or LessAssignment

I had a lot of fun making this because, Fantastic Mr Fox is one of my favorite movies, while thinking about the plot I think the most difficult part was isolating what the main plot was. Fantastic Mr Fox is full of subtext and scenes that do not really add to the main plot. Therefore when trying to make the differentiation I started thinking about the ending of the movie and how we got there.

For this video I used iMovie, this was not intentional however, premier pro was not accepting my footage. iMovie is less complicated and worked just as well. I then went to Youtube and screen recorded the most important scenes that illustrated the story being told and how they intertwined with one another. Once I had collected my scenes I went to iMovie and started piecing everything together, but I soon realized I had way too many scenes and had to cut back. Cutting back was difficult because I wanted to include everything. Unlike my other videos I kept the original video audio from the clips because I thought it helped to tell the story a little better. The audio is also just fun.

How to Cosplay Runa Starr

I’ve been talking about my character Runa Starr for the past weeks, so I stopped and wondered, what if she could actually come to life? Obviously that’s not possible but with guidance someone could definitely cosplay her. So I made a video guide on how to cosplay Runa Starr in seconds!

Reminder: Remember to unmute video to enjoy music and put it in full screen if that’s your preference!

Video Process

This video was inspired by the assignment called How to Video. I chose to make a how to video on how to cosplay as my character Runa Starr. Originally I wanted to cosplay her myself but I didn’t have enough time to order everything required for her outfit, so instead I found pictures for her hair, makeup, and outfit on Pinterest so I could make a visual guide. For the final pictures of her cosplay I used Ai to make pictures similar to what she could possibly look like on Canva. All video editing was done on TikTok where I was able to create transitions for each picture, add in captions, and add the song called Me Myself And I by Bebe Rexha. The song was chosen mostly due to the confident lyrics singing about being independent which sounded like something Runa would say.

If You Like Runa Starr

My character Runa Starr is a tactical genius with a tongue just as sharp. If you love headstrong female leads who kick butt without a second thought then I have the perfect book recommendations for you. In all these books Runa Starr shares very similar personalities to all the powerful women listed who shine throughout their stories.

Book Recommendations

Reminder: Make sure video isn’t muted to enjoy music, and make it full screen if that’s your preference!

Books Listed in Order:

  • Broken Throne by Victoria Aveyard
  • Ember in the Ashes series by Sabaa Tahir
  • Prisoner Throne by Holly Black
  • The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
  • Empirium Series by Claire Legrand
  • Crescent City by Sarah Maas
  • Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
  • Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
  • Legendborn by Tracy Deonn
  • Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

Video Process

This video was inspired by the assignment called Make a Top 10. It gave me the idea to list 10 characters who were similar to my character Runa Starr, but I wanted all my characters to come from the same type of media which is why I chose to do books since I read a lot and already knew many characters that fit her. For my video I chose to create it with TikTok since it has many editing options for me which helped a lot because I had a cool idea of trying to do transition shots for the first time by changing the books’ covers in the middle of the video by pausing and then replaying for each transition. I made my bookshelf the background since it fit the theme. Also the audio I chose was because I wanted a soundtrack that sounded powerful since the goal of my video is to recommend books with headstrong women. Lastly, I added the name of the characters and the books they’re from in front of each book to make it easier to recognize what I’m recommending.

Draw a Flower in Minutes

Drawing is fun and a simple hobby that anyone can enjoy! Some like making more complex detailed art but I love simplistic drawings, so I today I will teach you step by step how to draw a cute flower! So grab a piece of paper and follow along.

Material Used

  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Blending stump (or use paper towel)

The Tutorial

Reminder: Make sure video isn’t muted to enjoy the music and if your prefer full screen then be sure to click the bigger size!

Video Process

This video was inspired by the assignment called Arts and Crafts Tutorial which said to make a step by step art tutorial. For my video I decided to create it using TikTok since I know it is common for creators to make tutorial videos on there. I recorded the video of me drawing the flower then added captions which originally was going to be in Spanish while my voiceover was supposed to be in English, but I decided to instead have English captions with peaceful music playing in the background.

Bees Video Essay

M. Marshall 2.14

As everyone else has, I watched something and created a video essay on a scene from it. I watched “Hated in the Nation” from Black Mirror.

Of course, this is not a reflection on the full episode, but it definitely freaked me out a lot.

After I watched the episode I considered what scene to analyze, and I chose the one where Karin and Blue talk to the woman who sent the cake to Jo Powers. I really appreciated the level of foreshadowing that this scene gave. It was interesting to see them talk about the “death to” hashtag. Looking back and knowing she was one of the people responsible for her death, yet she was so defensive and frustrated. It was a strong reminder of the cognitive dissonance people experience between real life and their online actions.

I am hoping that as we experiment more with video assignments I will get better at this. I hope one day I will look back on this and cringe at my lack of video editing skills. I had hoped to screen record the video, but Netflix is very sneaky with blacking out the screen, so I ultimately recorded it on my phone. If I did another video essay in the future I would probably try to invest more time in figuring that out.

This one was pretty simple, I recorded the video on my phone and recorded a voice over on my laptop. I was somewhat nervous to do this so I had to do a couple takes with a general script. I still stumbled on my words some but nobody is perfect so I hope anyone reading this or watching the video essay enjoys it well enough. Here it is:
