Since Jonathan (my character) has moved to San Fransisco, considered the “Bay Area,” he has seen the homelessness rates in the city rise. The propaganda piece created illustrates the concept of this situation, hoping public policy will clear the streets and open the beauty of the city back to it’s original state.
The process was to create an image that showed people lying on the ground using deep.ai to generate an accurate image. After uploading the picture, I used Google drawings to add additional text to emphasize the portrayed propaganda.
To complete this propaganda design assignment, I used Adobe Express. This class urges you to utilize various and new digital tools, so I decided to give my usual Canva a break and try something new – Adobe! Luckily, both platforms are quite literally the same so it was not difficult to find tools and editing features.
Now the story behind this poster… As we all know now Chuckles is a very bright (inside and outside) individual. You can read more about his characteristics here. Since he is an architect, I chose the background to be buildings. Not just any buildings though, I chose colorful ones to represent Chuckles’s colorful personality. His to go line is “feeling down? keep calm and laugh on”. When choosing the font I wanted to go with simple, big, and bold lettering. Now what I love about Adobe Express was its different text layout features. In particular the Bow text layout which I used for the words “laugh on”. This fit so perfectly because it resembles the shape of a smile. The overall appearance I wanted for the poster was bright, lively, and simple.
Now finally for the last aspect of the poster, the line that says, “even if AI is watching you”. Chuckles has a love hate relationship with AI. He thinks its great and useful to an extent. However, since AI has been integrated everywhere, he feels like he’s being watched. Reading the keep calm line after AI is watching you, should help keep you calm says Chuckles!
Color and design were very important when creating this poster. The blue color represents technology and Aggressive Technologies’ goals, so I highlighted the word “Liberator” to give a sense of AT’s passion for creating a new reality that they see as an ideal one. The simple colors show the focus and lack of care for the costs of getting what they want. This propaganda poster wants more people to sign up and become an employee of AT, which shows that speed is a high priority. Rikaro, my character, will come across this poster when Aggressive Technologies is still growing and needs more help in their weapon development. Rikaro believes in the propaganda and wants to “free” people from the limitations of the world too. But after going against AT, I imagine him looking at this poster he kept with him in disgust. When he attacks one of AT’s buildings for the first time, he’ll throw this poster in the fire, which starts his fight against them.
Hey there, beautiful souls! Layla here, your friendly neighborhood manga artist, coming to you with a heart full of passion and a canvas brimming with inspiration. Today, I want to take you on a journey through the creation of something very special to me: a women’s rights propaganda poster, coupled with a powerful public service announcement.
As an artist, I believe in the transformative power of art. It’s not just about creating something aesthetically pleasing; it’s about using our voices and talents to spark change, to ignite conversations, and to empower those who need it most.
So, armed with my trusty pen and a heart full of determination, I set out to create a poster that would capture the essence of the women’s rights movement while resonating deeply with my audience. I poured my soul into every stroke, every line, and every shade, infusing the artwork with symbolism and meaning that speaks volumes. The poster features a bold, defiant heroine standing tall amidst a backdrop of swirling colors and powerful imagery. Her gaze is unwavering, her stance unyielding, radiating strength and resilience. Surrounding her are words of empowerment, declarations of solidarity, and calls to action, all woven together in a tapestry of hope and unity.
But creating the poster was just the beginning. I knew that to truly make an impact, I needed to amplify its message and reach a wider audience. And so, I embarked on a journey to transform my artwork into a public service announcement, a rallying cry for change that would resonate far and wide.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. “Layla, isn’t Groundhog’s Day just a harmless tradition, a quirky little celebration of spring’s arrival?” Well, my friends, buckle up, because the truth is far more sinister than you could ever imagine.
For years, we’ve been led to believe that Punxsutawney Phil, the so-called “seer of seers” and “prognosticator of prognosticators,” has the mystical ability to predict the weather. According to legend, if Phil sees his shadow on February 2nd, we’re in for six more weeks of winter. But if he doesn’t, spring is just around the corner.
Sounds innocent enough, right? Wrong. Dead wrong.
The reality is, Punxsutawney Phil is nothing more than a fraud, a charlatan masquerading as a weather oracle. You see, my friends, groundhogs are not weather experts. They’re not meteorologists. They’re not even particularly good at predicting whether or not they’ll find their own shadows.
In fact, the entire premise of Groundhog’s Day is based on pseudoscience and superstition, perpetuated by a cunning cabal of groundhog handlers who profit from the annual spectacle. Year after year, they trot out poor Phil, subjecting him to the bright lights and cameras, all for the sake of perpetuating a myth.
Until next time, keep creating, keep inspiring, and keep spreading love and light wherever you go.
The colors I used were a soft but powerful blue. During this class we learned that blue was used for future movies and or posters. When I saw all the blue in the background of the car, I knew this was the picture I wanted to use. I also made sure to incorporate my course character which would be Josh.
I used Josh because he is well known within Aggressive Technologies as a head leader for making cars fly. I tried to make him overpower the background picture to show that he owns this project. If you join Aggressive Technologies, you will be able to work with one of the best in Artificial Intelligence.
The emotional appeal would be excitement which is shown by all the scientific items coming the car. This shows that Aggressive Technologies has an idea and it showing the audience what they could be a part of.
Making of the sticker:
I knew that I wanted to incorporate my course character, Josh. Of course, I only have one picture of him, so I had to make it work somehow. I will say that I was not happy about this assignment because I completely do NOT understand propaganda. I never have and no matter how someone explains it to me, it just does not make sense. When I saw that I had to make one, I closed my laptop and now here we are a day later trying to come up with something.
I went to google once a again and I looked up phrases on āartificial intelligenceā. Google once again did not disappoint. I went to Soocail and picked the phrase that really stuck with me which happened to be āImagine. Innovate. Ignite with AI.ā I thought to myself, perfect I am almost done. We needed different images and a place I can put it all together.
The image I used was a picture of Josh and I had to incorporate some sort of car in the propaganda. Since Josh was a mechanic, having the car in there was very important. I thought that Aggressive Technologies was trying to hire people that would work alongside Josh. I ended up using a website called Canva to put words and the pictures on the page.
I did a lot of layering and fading to create different kinds of āfuturisticā look to the sticker.
For this assignment, I designed a propaganda poster to push the agenda of my course character Hwei.
I went with louder design language, finding an image of a robot colored in bright red and oranges, and then overlaid that with text highlighted with red and pink outlines. The white text seemed like a good choice to contrast from the red and orange robot and to make it more legible.
As for the context, it is a message being sent to all of humanity to embrace the coming of AI and the robots being produced by Hwei. He believes that these robots are the future of society. Rather than assimilating the robots into human culture, Hwei believes that robots are a higher being altogether, and should replace the current reign of humans in the “biological” food chain. Although this would most likely get rid of the biological part of civilization entirely, there would be no pain, death, or suffering. Every robot would be programmed for the greater good of the earth, regardless if this new world has any room for humans or not. Accept it, don’t fear it!
This was the propaganda I designed to make people more suspicious of Aggressive Technologies. My character is a former employee of Aggressive Technologies who no longer agrees with their mission. The goal is, of course, to cause people to be skeptical of this large company.
I used Canva to make this poster and found the perfect background after a quick search through Google Images. I developed the message after I saw the image and decided since my character is trying to save the creative work of literature, it would make sense to emphasize the importance of human brains. I added the glitch effect on the text since it just seems fitting for an AI danger propaganda poster.
As my character, Isaiah Beacon, is an evangelist for AI, I decided to make a poster that would elevate AI from an object to a more human level. It definitely benefits Beacon’s message to anthropomorphize robots so people become more accepting of their use. I could definitely see him promoting a one-ness with AI as depicted in the graphic in the future as he believes in a sort of manifest destiny where humans and robots are destined to become one.
For this poster, I wanted it to have a catchphrase as the main eye grabber followed by the picture and then the explanation. I feel like I accomplished that here. I think propaganda is supposed to stir up some controversy and I think that the catchphrase and the graphic would incite pushback, but Isaiah would be able to backpedal with the explanation and say, “I only meant that we need to stop hating AI, nothing else.” I thought that using the blue theme would be interesting as there’s a contrast between the peaceful blues and the more confrontational font and wording choices.
I’ve designed some propaganda for Aggressive Technologies that I imagine they would post to all the walls around a city to get everyone to see it.
The phrase itself comes from what Dr. Oblivion offered in the intro video for this week, and I really liked how the threat here was that technology will continue to advance with or without you, and if you don’t join, you will be left behind, and the behind will eventually become the future’s “stone age.” It’s kind of scary!
I put together a Pinterest board filled with propaganda posters, mostly Soviet and Communism-related ones because I liked the colors and use of empty space, for inspiration for this. I kind of just pick and grabbed some ideas, but also went with my own thing! And I made this through Canva, of course.
I wanted it to feel old, yet new at the same time, so I put a lot of textures overtop to make it have that older feel, but I kept the text bold so that the message was new and very clear. Overall, this was fun to play around with and fiddle with.
Sol’s thoughts? They’re a hater. Like I said, I imagine this poster is pasted all over cities and its inescapable, and I’m sure every time Sol sees it, they want to slam their head into a wall. Join Aggressive Technologies? No. Be left in the Stone Age? What even is the stone age?
I’d imagine that Sol ignores the poster and all the other posters before it drives them mad, focusing instead on their own paintings and storytelling. I’d also imagine that this isn’t the last straw, but it’s nearing it. Sol definitely does not trust Aggressive Technologies, but they’re being wary and keeping their distance mostly right now.
I had so much fun the last two weeks with my video editor (sarcasm detected) that I decided to make a propaganda commercial. There is no evidence provided that what is said is true or where they get their facts from. But it is startling to say the least. So how does this relate to my character. Well, I feel as if I was getting in too dep with what Kvin is interested in and so I decided to imagine a group that wants to counter his message. This would be like a TV commercial that Kevin would blog angrily about or go on rants on his podcast or something like that. I just wanted to make something that would piss him off and have him go off the rails. I hope you enjoy it. (Keep the volume a tad lower than normal)
