Mostly Relevant Goals!

Actually relevant goal

I really hope to get more used to WordPress controls as I use it for work as well. I am a Lab Aide in the Psychology department and while I know how to use the basics of WordPress, I trust that this class will allow me to have much more creative liberties with my designs! For work, we have designated hero blocks that we design around. I am excited about this class because I get to choose my own themes, designs, prompts, and can be more silly-goofy than professional.

School goal in general

I would like to start getting these tasks done earlier in the week, not just for this class. I didn’t quite realize the extent of the work I wanted to put into the different classes I was in. Now that I have been in it for a week, I feel more able to properly time manage my assignments; especially whatever these ones might include!

Helping hand goal

I would love to be able to learn more technological/creative feats to help my mom in her website endeavors.

Definitely a star critic

I would like to figure out more of what it’s like to truly review something. At least much more than the simple point of something was just good or bad. Hopefully, this will provide more practice in this endeavor!

Aim High with Goals

In this digital storytelling class I am hoping to create and evaluate digital media. If I reach my goal I believe I should be able to properly understand the creative process, successfully review in detail various forms of media, and be able to effectively communicate and discuss creative works. I am also hoping to have fun and share my fun creative ideas with the class while learning how to navigate using a website and post blogs for everyone to see.

Goals!

M. Marshall 1.17.2025

My goal for this class is to become more digitally adept and get to enjoy the storytelling part of it. I obviously cannot say for sure what this class will be about until I’ve done it, but I am looking forward to storytelling and I am hoping to get to exercise creativity in this course. Ideally, by the time this is finished I will have a whole blog that looks like nothing I could have ever imagined being able to create before starting this class, maybe that I can show off to friends. Maybe after TikTok goes blogging will be the next big thing. Maybe a goal would be to have the little widgets leading to a real link/page that isn’t just my main page? I can feel a reflection on this post coming at the end of the semester, so I am trying to think of quantifiable goals that can or cannot be met. Maybe to be able to somehow incorporate my cat, Daisy into this blog? Maybe increase my media literacy? I hope to accomplish at least a few of these things.

To start: Here is little Daisy about a day after I adopted her!

Semester Goals

As per university requirements, we all have to take a digital intensive class, but I specifically chose this class because it sounded like a course with skills I could genuinely use both in and out of Mary Wash. I founded and run my own goth night and all the social media/outreach, I manage social media and the website for our Psych Department, and as co-president of the Rocky Horror club, I help oversee our social media manager, so I’m hoping that this class will give me a better understanding of utilizing different types of media and learning new ways to harness my creativity for effective designs which will in turn help with my promotional work. I also feel that in an increasingly digitized world, it’s important to understand how the inner workings of different platforms and media work.

Goals for this Class

While it was the eighth task on the to-do list, I opted to consider what I wanted to get out of this class before reading/watching this week’s assignments. I work in theatre, primarily in lighting design, which provides an interesting method for storytelling. While lighting isn’t something that most audiences conciously notice, it is something that carries a huge amount of the narrative and helps to create the wold on stage. As such, I’m always working to try and find new ways to tell stories and interact with the world around me, especially in ways that may be unexpectected or unnoticed by most. I’m excited to learn more about different ways to tell stories, but also to engage with the “tech noir” theme and consider how technology has helped or hindered the development of complex narratives.

What would I like to accomplish in DS106?

  • Effectively tell a story through my work.
  • Use new techniques that will make my content engaging.
  • I want to learn more about my creative side. Most courses that I’ve been taking are business related. Some possible skills I’d like to work on: Selecting imagery and music, feeling more comfortable with recording myself, and familiarizing myself with these new online publishing formats.

What I’d like to get out of this class

The main thing I’m really looking forward to in this class is expanding on my knowledge of digital media and my skillset in creating different types. I’ve become increasingly interested in using digital media and producing different works, mainly towards my overarching goal of using it to improve the business I own and work towards scaling. My goals are to use the creative freedom in the class to focus on certain skillsets or forms of media that can contribute to my goals outside of the classroom!

Goals For This Course

I have always found digital mediums fun to learn more about and practice. Therefore, I feel like I have a little bit of information on a lot of software. However, I would like to expand that knowledge and be able to get good enough at it that I can add the skill to my resume. I would like to be ahead of the game, skill-wise, when I go out into the world looking for a job. Another thing I’m hopeful about is that if I am able to learn and pick up new skills from this class, then it will be easier for me to learn how to use digital software that aren’t in this class. Lastly, because this class’s workload seems out of my comfort zone, I’m hoping it will whip my time management into shape. Currently my ability to manage my time isn’t terrible, it could be worse, but it could definitely be better. Overall, I want to better myself as a CDS student, and I’m excited to see if I will achieve my goals or if they will change!

My Goals for this Course

What I want to get out of this course is to expand my digital presence, as well as get more practice using different softwares to create videos, podcasts, or graphics! I also want to be able to juggle and plan accordingly with my work since I tend to procrastinate! Otherwise, I am pretty excited for the course!
