Course Character Business Card

So, while I’ve created my course character, I haven’t been able to get the writeup posted yet. Nevertheless, I thought that since this week’s theme is visuals and trying to relate them to our course characters that a business card would be a great way to introduce my character, Lenore Glaphyra, a femme fatale self-made gothic event promoter. Networking and connection are basically her whole thing as an event runner and promoter and she’s incredibly skilled with it as well.

I created her business card to showcase her personality and add in some slight subliminal messaging. The colors and fonts keep with the gothic theme, but I wanted to incorporate spiderwebs surrounding the border to symbolize the schtick of creative, charismatic networking. In old myths and stories, spiders are cunning, persuasive, and ingenious. Their webs are literally made to catch anything and everything the spider needs and that’s exactly what Lenore does with her networking skills. I also used the splice text effect on Canva to show depth as well as something lying below the surface. This symbolizes Lenore’s past which haunts her (also shown with the addition of the ghosts); she’s more than meets the eye and she wasn’t always the person she is now.

Business card for Lenore Glaphyra, femme fatale

This design was pretty simple, but it took quite a bit of planning and thought to make sure the messages I wanted to use were shown in a way I felt fit in with Lenore’s aesthetic as well as her internal character traits. It wasn’t very difficult, I know Canva well, but it did consume quite a bit of time.

Contact me – Or don’t I really don’t care

This assignment is the Create Your Own Business Card. I chose to make a business card for my character Evelyn Calico. She works at the New York Times as a journalist and doesn’t really care to move up in the world. She likes where she is and will continue to work her wage and no more.

Evelyn gives very few out but when she does, its because a story has really interested her and knows she can do well with it, or a supervisor is watching her and she needs to give them out like candy according to them. The stories that Lynn looks for are stories that tend to bring controversy to the public. She likes to listen to gossip and make news out of it, but professionally of course. Her business card consists only of work contact information, she will not tolerate those who go contact her personally (i.e her personal phone, email, and landline – yes she still has one).

I made this business card using this Canva template and I made up a phone number using the area code from Montana as that is where Evelyn is originally from. To make her email I used the classic first initial and full last name email that most professional companies use. I then went to a “contact us” page on the New York Times to see what kind of email url they typically use. I then make the address be the New York Times headquarters building. I imported the New York Times font into canva to make the header and the “T” logo in the corner. Overall, Im happy with how minimalist the card ended up looking and I feel like it fits my characters overall vibe!

andrea is a professional girl here

I tried the create your own business card for my class character Andrea Grant. If you look a my character introduction you can tell that Andrea is kinda of spoiled. She was the most popular girl in school who got everything she wanted and that confidence often bleeds over into her professional life constantly. The card is of course pink as it’s her favorite color. Unlike her less classy coworkers (Georgia) her card just exudes confidence to intimidate whoever holds this card.

I made this on Canva and it was quite easy as they have a lot of templates for business cards so the work was mostly just customizing it for Andrea and adding her own spin to it.

Sol’s Business Card – Design Assignment

Have you ever wanted to hire a professional artist? Maybe one who paints the sky? Maybe one who isn’t really human but has a passion for telling humans’s stories? Well don’t you worry, I have a business card just for you from a good friend of mine if you’re interested in hiring them.

I’m sure they would love to paint up the sky for you 🙂

For my Design Assignment, I followed this design prompt:

We’re reaching a time in our lives where where professionalism is key. Use photoshop to create your own business card to advertise who you are.

Well, I didn’t use Photoshop, mostly because I have no idea if we get Photoshop with our school accounts, and I definitely don’t have Photoshop, so instead, I used everyone’s favorite free, online alternative: CANVA!!

I had essentially a few ideas: I needed this to look like a painting and it HAD to be associated with the sky. I mean, that’s Sol’s whole purpose: paint the sky, tell the stories. That’s really all you have to get! It’s that simple. I also wanted it to be coherent and use the same colors, so I grabbed colors from the image I grabbed from Canva of the sky painting, and used those colors for the text. I also didn’t want it to be overwhelmed with text, because I thought the painting should be the main focus, as that’s what Sol does.

I actually kind of like this! I think I would like to, maybe sometime, come up with other designs for business cards for Sol, test what other ideas I could come up with, things like that. So this was a lot of fun!!

Executive Level Business – Create Your Own Business Card Assignment

I chose to do the Create Your Own Business Card assignment for my character Georgia Finch. If she’s going to become a super important software developer she needs a professional business card. Unfortunately she doesn’t have an eye for detail like Patrick Bateman, so her business card is not incredibly astounding. When she is important enough to hire people to help her maybe she’ll get a new one.

(Also, just to cover my bases, her phone number is fake)
