Rikaro’s Radio Commercial

80’s Product Radio Commercial

The assignment description asks to create a 30-45 second radio commercial for a product from the 80’s. I bent this rule to apply to our group’s radio show by creating a commercial for Rikaro’s company, PrimalTech. Since Rikaro has a skill for applying advanced technology into military weapons and armory, I wanted him to promote new weapons and concepts that will implement AI into them. It has a subtle hint of Rikaro ignoring the consequences of his ideas, since it’s in line with his character.

weird product ad meets 80s radio show

80’s Product Radio Commercial

For this assignment, I decided to venture into the realm of nonsense to come up with the most bizarre ad I could think of. Meet the Jetpack Jammies.

After painstakingly putting that vague vision into words, I used Voicemaker to create the narrator’s voice. I then used Audacity to create the old-timey radio effect on the voice and to speed up the disclaimer.

I got my music and the jetpack sound here. I used the same radio effect on both. Finally, I used Lexica to make the weird image you see now.

Assignment Bank: 80’s Product Radio Commercial – Definitely Not the 80’s but Close Enough?

I made a commercial fitting for my character, Hwei. He is attempting to sell AI powered prosthetic body augments with the promise of alleviating pain and enhancing performance. I think something like this is how Hwei would first introduce his inventions to the market, but not necessarily for monetary gain. This type of advertisement, if successful, would slowly introduce his inventions to society, and eventually making all of society accustom to getting this procedure done.

Most of the lines I chose were not sales tactics that you’d normally see in advertisements other than the intro that poses a question and then a solution. That is what makes Hwei’s commercial unique; no upselling, no monetary value mentioned. This also definitely isn’t from the 80’s but I took Professor Bond’s offer of bending assignments to meet our show, so I just did a regular commercial for this.

Do I Even Know What Trivial Pursuit Is?

For one of my audio assignments, I made a fake commercial for a video game version Trivial Pursuit, but a fictional version where it actively teaches you things. I used TTS Maker for the voices and the background music from FreeSound.

My methods for making this were a little unorthodox. Because I still don’t understand Audacity and I was in no mood to relearn, I ended up editing this on iMovie. While the setup was not as professional as Audacity, the process was quick and I was able to do more since I already knew how to use it. Overall I think taking the easy way out was the better choice here.

Also, because I feel the need to explain myself, I chose Trivial Pursuit at random. I wanted to make a game ad for a preexisting game that I could edit.

Commercial for Talk Show!

My second audio assignment for the week was to create a commercial for an 80s product. I decided to do this one because we had to create a commercial for our radio show anyway, and so I decided to be a little bit more efficient with my time and just knock out two birds with one stone. My commercial has a little twist to it because I decided to create a commercial for a more modern product since that is probably more appealing to my listeners than something from the 80s. My product was called BetterHelp, which is an online therapy service that allows individuals to connect with licensed therapists to help their everyday mental health needs. In order to create this commercial, I create a script with the help of other commercials done in the past, and used Audacity to record myself speaking out the script. Once I had that audio clip completed, I was then able to move onto trying to find a music clip that I could play in the background so it is not just me talking. I found this soft, warm sound that I could use in the background and so I inserted that. However, I come to find out that the sound is way too loud for my voice recording and so I ran into a little hiccup trying to figure out how to deamplify the sound of the music. Once I was able to figure that out, however, I was able to continue finishing up the commercial. Once finished, I listened to it and realized that I was happy with the final product and decided to call it there. You can listen to my commercial down below or on my SoundCloud page. I hope you enjoy!!
