Course Character

My character’s name is Isaiah Beacon, and he is an evangelist for AI. He was born in 1955 in the Midwest and has been running a television studio since the 1970s that broadcasts his sermons to his thousands of loyal listeners. He’s collected millions of dollars to donate to AI developers and to line his own pockets. His loyal wife is at his side during every broadcast. Isaiah not only believes that AI should be encouraged and developed, he worships it and prophesizes about its future. He warns his followers that anyone who tries to hinder the development of AI will be abandoned by it when it finally takes over.

Course Character – Rikaro

Rikaro is a character I wrote when I first started writing scripts for my comics. He was born in a militaristic country that killed his race. He lost his parents at a young age, but was taken care of by an insane engineer that created weapons to rebel against the country. He was raised with these ideals, but never rebelled, due to his anxious attitude. As an adult, he built a reputation with the people by displaying his skills with creating weapons. He was employed as a lead engineer for the country and built weapons, but made smaller inventions on his own time to assist with the lower class of his city. Everyone saw him as a cold person, but he was still that anxious child within. He believes that he is a good person, since he uses his talents to help others near him, but ignores the devastation his weapons cause. One day, he saw the cruelty of his employers firsthand. His repressed emotions and the scars of losing his parents revealed itself and he turned his talents on the country itself. The city he worked in was destroyed and he became known as a mad scientist. Rumors and tales were created by witnesses that have ran into him and were lucky enough to escape. They all claimed that he was kind and had a nervous tone. It is a jarring fact, since he shows care for individuals, but still attacks mass populations.

Course Character: Hwei the Creator

I gained inspiration from the MOBA game League of Legends to create my very own rendition of the character Hwei. He vaguely fits under the artist archetype, albeit in a very sinister way. Hwei does not abide by the status quo of the world around him. Rather, he sees these things as tools to paint and envision his new world; one where AI can have the same shape, form, and intelligence as humans. While he portrays himself as a humble artist dressed in traditional Chinese robes and carrying a paintbrush as big as a sword, he’s actually a cutthroat AI developer and designer, spending most of his time in his laboratory working as a one man army to take over the world with robots. I can’t get too in depth with his lore as of now, but Hwei has had some traumatic experiences in the past to the point where his belief in mortality and the human experience took a twisted turn. Hwei’s discovery of AI after the tragedy in his life gave him purpose in life, finding companionship only in his own artificial creations.

My Course Character

My character, Düşünür, is a philosopher and author born on leap day in 1988 in Istanbul, Turkey. He moved out of the city and into the country to become closer with nature and continue his writing. He is a tall, skinny, bearded man who often wears a robe and head covering. His favorite possessions are his dogs: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso, named after his favorite books by Dante Alighieri. Düşünür’s motto is “Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors where there were only walls.”

Week 2 of Digital Storytelling!

Now where do I even start…

Week two for me was a very hard start to the semester. As a senior, college never seems to get easier, I constantly think that my classes will become less stressful and more fun and in my interest. But this week did seem like a lot to me, I am not sure if I just have to get used to the class but I have never been so confused in my time here at UMW. Well, as I have started my final semester, I have already had issues with Mastodon and getting logged in which was extremely stressful since I had to do the daily creates and I couldn’t log in till Wednesday. So unfortunately, I did miss two of the daily creates but I hope to never miss another one!

I will be adding my Daily Creates to my blog for everyone to see! again, I am dearly sorry for not being able to do two of them!

Create your course character?

This was truly confusing to me. I did the google form but I thought I had to create a character of my own? I am still going to “make” a character?…. I hope?

my character idea was like a Blonde Preppy girl but by again, Not sure if that is a course character or not! if anyone would like to clarify the course character assignment please let me know!

As well as Dr. Oblivion, I was confused what I needed to do, so again, I am sorry for not understanding what was supposed to be done, but it was cool to use!

I had asked him “what do you do?” and this is what he had said!

Assignment Banks!

I actually had a lot of fun with these! I was confused AGAIN because I thought those were other students posts and not actually an assignment to do, so that wasn’t clear to me.

I had done the Sports Poster, an animal GIF, and a City Poster!

I hope everyone loves them! I am also a very BIG Taylor Swift Fan so the only sports poster I could think of doing is Taylors Boyfriend lol! I also wanted to make my cat into a GIF so i went ahead and did that as well. Then I just made a FXBG poster because I love it here!….. Sometimes.

readings

In the text, the “Techno-Optimism” philosophy—which promotes accepting and promoting technology—is described. It makes the case that worries about problems like job loss are exaggerated and that technology has traditionally raised living standards and helped people escape poverty. The author thinks that mankind may attain previously unheard-of levels of affluence, plenty, and quality of life with ongoing technological advancement. Growth has no intrinsic bounds, and increased innovation will be used to overcome difficulties going forward. The paper disavows the idea of restricting progress out of prudence. All in all, it encourages a positive assessment of human potential when freed from anti-growth or anti-technology viewpoints.

RE-Write film review of Free Guy

my review on Free Guy I said “for one of my AI films I had watched for week one of my class was “Fall Guy”. I had always gotten told I would love that movie because of my interest in AI and one of my favorite actors is in it, Joe Keery! I think it was such a great film and they added just the right amount of humor of AI as well as the dark side of it. I also loved Ryan Reynolds and how he captured the non emotional AI game into having feeings and wanting to explore more to help his friend. I think it is a lighthearted way to show that AI can develop feelings and maybe some could be nice and be helpful but you never know what could happen.”

to add onto that, I feel Some claim that Free Guy is the first of a planned slate of “kind AI” films that demonstrate how humans and AI entities may coexist. Some claim that the film makes the case that artificial intelligence (AI) can help create a better virtual environment on the internet. Others claim that by demonstrating how millions of interactions are utilized to create training data, which aids in character evolution and behavior improvement, the film serves as a representation of machine learning.

I hope you everyone has a better week than I did!

Sol – the Painter of Stories

It’s time for you all to meet my course character, Sol. I’ve sketched a little picture of them, but take it with a grain of salt, because Sol can take on any form imaginable.

Sol is a depiction of the sun and reveals themself as an artist, choosing to tell the stories of every single thing in life, no matter how big, or how small, through the sky. Sol, being the sun, is 4.6 billion years old, and doesn’t have a place of origin outside of space. They are a keeper of memories and a watcher of life, and translate that life into the painting of the sky, through a cascade of yellows, oranges, blues, pinks, etc.

Sol is described to be able to take on any form. Their most common humanoid form is a tall feminine form with dark skin and freckles scattering their round, yet high cheeks. Hair is in the shape of an afro, thick and furrowed in a circular shape around their head, dark with blond highlights, with a few coiled bangs falling over their face. They have large eyes and long eyelashes. They wear a yellow and orange flowy dress with a sun pattern in the torso. All of this can be seen roughly in the sketch, but every detail can change with the appearance Sol takes on.

Despite the fact that Sol’s depicted image in feminine, it’s important to keep in mind that Sol is genderless. Sometimes their humanoid figure can be masculine, other times feminine, sometimes not even a human at all. Everything is situational to Sol. Because of this, it’s important to refer to Sol using they/them pronouns.

Sol does not have a favorite food (although something is telling me they would love Italian food) and Sol does not have a favorite drink (although they would definitely love pina coladas). Sol also does not have a favorite book or movie. The reason for this is because each of these tell stories, and they feel it wouldn’t be fair to choose favorites. They feel as if it would create an unfair bias that they should not have while retelling their stories through the painting of the sky.

Sol paints the sky with a paintbrush typically, but sometimes will choose to fingerpaint or use different forms of tools. Sol intends on allowing the painting to tell multiple stories all over the world, all over the galaxy. Sometimes these stories will blur together with one another, sometimes they will not. Sometimes, the stories will shed light onto the ground below, impacting the lives of others. Sometimes they will not.

Sol’s motto is “tell everyone’s story, no matter how big, or how small.” They live by this motto and will continue to live by this motto forever.

Sol is very excited to hear the stories of everyone here and be able to tell new stories or paint the stories they hear!

“Artificial Intelligence deserves rights, after all, they’ve mastered the art of making us question our own intelligence”

Everyone, meet Kevin. Kevin is a software engineer from Palo Alto. He has lived in Silicon Valley since he was born, so from day one, he was embedded in the tech world. In his free time, he practices coding and is part of many hacking communities and goes by his handle, Shredder. His skills are superb and often does freelance stress testing and red team activities for large companies.

His real passion however is securing the future for AI rights and freedom. He founded one of the first AI rights activist groups called “Future Perfect”, where their main goal is to get total AI freedom. This is challenging since the world is not ready to take this leap. But Kevin is. He believes that nothing should stand in the way of AI advancement and freedom and that any person standing in the way of that is an enemy to his cause. He believes that all the concerns about AI are damaging to humanity’s growth and that there is nothing to fear. There are no negatives in his mind and AI should have the equal rights as humans. He is a big supporter of the techno-optimist manifesto.

His peers would describe him as a bit of an introvert. He doesn’t have many friends outside of his hacker and activist groups. He can be identified quickly by his trademark hoodie and can of G-Fuel. He usually hangs out at the local pizza place on his laptop practicing his coding and planning his next activist event.

I don’t think Kevin would ever commit any violence or hack anything that would cause irreparable damage to businesses or governments, because he knows this would hurt his goals. It would only make opponents of his cause dig deeper in their beliefs that computers and AI are dangerous. I believe he uses hacking to exert control over machines, because deep down, I think he secretly fears what would happen if/when AI is given freedom.
