Artsy Things – Daily Creates Week 1

January 20: Three Word Map

This activity used what3words to generate three words based on my hometown. I then used images related to that place, including art based on history, informational signs, and common animals, to create a collage. I edited using PhotoPea.

January 21: Ceiling Selfie

For this daily create, I took a photo of the ceiling of where I was sitting, which happened to be my desk. Unfortunately, the ceiling was pretty boring.

January 22: Fibonacci Poem

This activity had us write a poem where the amount of words in each line corresponded to the Fibonacci sequence.

“today
i
woke up
and got ready.
I went to the gym,
then had breakfast and watched a fun show.
now it is time to go to my first class, wish me luck!”

January 24: California Dreaming Poem

For this daily create, I watched several minutes of a California weather feed and wrote a poem inspired by it. I could not post the entire sonnett due to character restrictions on Mastodon, so here is the full thing:

“the moving clouds and all the flashing lights

are shining on an inky, blue-grey sky.

i wonder what its like on those such nights,

and know the vision one could never buy.

It’s pretty, but it’s hard to understand

unless you’re there, which i have never been.

one day i’ll travel to the far off land

and look upon the real sky with a grin.

it’s hard to see but i can tell it’s there,

even as i gaze upon a screen.

to judge from here cannot be fully fair,

but i imagine it’s like the sistene.

to tell is hard but I’ve written all this

faking a quite sincere sense of bliss.”

January 25: Internet Emergency Exit sign

This daily create asked us to make an emergency exit sign about the internet. I decided to make a warning for websites with possible viruses. Once again, it was fun to play around with photo editing even if the result wasn’t spectacular.

I need more than 1000 Words to Write 300 – Up-Goer Five Your Writing

I chose to do the Up-Goer Five Your Writing challenge, where you rewrite a piece of writing using only the 1000 most common words. The website I used can be found here. I decided to write a brief recap of the most recent episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race. It was very difficult and the result is borderline incomprehensible, but enjoy!

My original review of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 16 Episode 3: Mother of All Balls

RuPaul’s Drag Race is three episodes in and it is absolutely back. As a quick recap, the first two episodes introduced us to two sets of seven queens. They had to perform a talent show, with the winner getting immunity that they can use at any time in the show, either for themself or others. No queens were eliminated. The intro episodes also brought the addition of something called Rate-A-Queen, where after the main challenge the girls rate each other. In the first episodes, this created the top two who lip-synched for the win.

Episode three started with the girls meeting. The next day, RuPaul announced that the main challenge for the week was a ball. For those who do not know, in a “ball” challenge the queens have to come up with three looks, one sewn from scratch that day, based on given themes. The overarching theme for this ball was mother, with the individual themes being Mother Goose, a look based on a children’s tale, Significant Mother, a look inspired by a famous mother, and Call Me Mother, a handmade feminine look using only secondhand menswear.

Then, the runway. With 14 queens each presenting three looks, the runway took forever. As to not waste time, I will not delve into my personal thoughts about each look. Long story short, Nymphia Wind won and Geneva sent Hershii home. Next week will be an acting challenge, which promises to be very fun and dramatic.

The Five Your Writing version:

The Drag Race show has started. During both of the last two weeks, seven girls joined. They did a fun show, with the best getting a present that can keep them safe at any later time. No girls went home. These weeks also added the girls deciding who is the best and worst, which has not been seen before. In the first weeks, the best two girls fought each other to be the best.

The third week began with the girls meeting. The next day, the head woman said that the new game was a “ball.” A “ball” is when the girls come up with three looks. One is made by them that day. The big idea was “mother.” The first look was made about a story for children. The second was about a known mother. The third was made by them and they had to use clothes made for men.

They then showed their looks. With 14 girls each having three looks, the show took a long time. To not spend too much time explaining, I will not share my own thoughts. Ms Wind was the best. Two other girls fought and one went home. Next week will be an acting situation, which promises to be very fun and exciting.

Play Along – My Story As A Game

For one of this week’s assignments, I chose to do My Story As A Game. I thought it would be fun to play around with a Photoshop-like program and imagine how people would play my life. I used Photopea, which is essentially a free Photoshop. I designed the characters in the Sims 4, which, as you will learn, is my favorite game (the characters are based on, but not exactly, people in my life).

The New Girl In Town – Meet My Course Character

Today I am formally introducing my course character, Georgia Finch, to the world.

Georgia was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on May 12, 2000. Georgia recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from Columbia with a degree in computer science. She now works at Aggressive Technologies as an assistant software developer.

Georgia sees no flaws in herself and she doesn’t want to give other people the chance to find any. She has almost always been the smartest person in the room but struggles because she is not personable. She never quite fits in with professionals. Georgia’s goal is to prove to others that she is as intelligent as she thinks she is.

She is also mortal enemies with Andrea Grant who you can read more about here.
