Video Essay!

I did a video essay about memes! I couldn’t think of an idea right away. I had done some shot by shot videos I had taken and I was going to go in a different direction but I lost my footage so I spent some time working on this. I hope you enjoy! It isn’t my greatest work but Premiere Pro was glitching out a lot by the end.

I hope you guys enjoy!

Reflection from Videos and Articles :)

Learning about video and film analysis has been SO much fun for me because if I don’t lean towards Social Media as a career, I would love to be a video editor for commercials. My favorite class I have taken at umw is Video Productions with JD and Digital Media Studios with Cartland! I love learning shot and reverse shot, and when I saw that video I thought it was super interesting! I think having a good understanding about breaking down a film and paying attention to little detail like rule of thirds, lighting, noise level, etc. I also like to do film analysis as a semiotics analysis. The study of signs and visual language is called semiotics. It examines how meaning is produced using various media, including words, images, gestures, symbols, sounds, and designs. Semiotic analysis is reviewing every sign’s meaning in its context. I really am excited to learn more about video essays and I have been working on mine all week but I wanted to post a reflection of what I learned and what I am excited about. From what I know, video essays combine written and communative topics with film, sound, and images. I also am in video art class so we make a lot of artistic videos and I probably will apply my video art school in my video essay!

I can’t wait to put the final touches on my video essay and apply what I learned from the videos and articles we had to watch!

Daily Creates!

My daily Create for week 5!

Since we only had to do two this week, I am getting my post done now so I am on top of the game this week! I think my daily creates were very fun and challenging for me but I enjoyed it! I could only think about a hotdog with the one daily creates because I was trying to come up with a good one. I also wanted to edit Captain Felix to go through a drive thru because I feel like he would need some food for his long flights. It took me a while to be able to make Felix holding the cup of fries, but I know how to cook on canva.

DS106 Goals #2

My original ds106 goal was:

“I want to explore the world of digital storytelling more. I want to work hard in this class. I have been dying to take this class since freshman year, but I just had been holding off, and I thought, now is my time to shine! I will also pursue a master’s degree, and one of my courses is Digital Storytelling! Why not get ahead while I can? My goal is to take time and care in my work, review it, edit it, and work with another peer to grow. This is an essential class because I would love to do anything involving digital storytelling as a career.”

My goal still stands, and I have been trying to stay on time and do things with care. I feel like I was definitely not reaching my goal in the beginning. I have been struggling for the past few weeks, especially at the beginning of the semester, with just understanding how to navigate this class with all the different websites and links. I think I had higher expectations for myself in this class because I didn’t know I would be having 20 tabs open to do one assignment and get lost all the time. I do think I have a good understanding now? I hope so!

Overall, I think my goal is a great goal to have for this class. Always learning and updating your skills is very important. I still would like to reach my goal and  I would say my newer goal would to be how to space out the assignments because starting assignments on Wednesday’s is not enough time for how many assignments.

Weekly round up for Week 4!

Oh my, where do I start! Week four for me was Crazzzzyyy!! I do work for marketing at the dining hall at umw, and if anyone has seen or been all the events/dinners know they have been back to back and I can’t catch a breath! But I have been slowly working on my assignments this week! I was working every single night that the radio show listening was happening but I was able to save the link and listen but since I work at the fist floor at the UC, I get no signal down there so I wasn’t able to send any messages or hop on a call. I do feel bad about it but I hope everyone can understand my listening from a far! I really felt like I learned a lot this week, I felt so proud figuring out how to link my Sound Cloud to the bottom of my blog and my assignments are also on there!

All My Blog Post This Week

I think this week was a really impactful week to learn about audio. I’ve been having a great time learning about audio production this last week. Studying sound design, mixing music, and playing with sound effects has been exciting and fulfilling. Learning more about the technicalities of audio and its creative tools has been a joy. This week felt like a nice transition to my career to be able to know this kind of stuff. I hope everyone had a good week this week.

Assignment Banksss

“Auditory Hell”

“Chrome Music Labs”

“Mashup”

Reflection

I honestly had a hard time picking out some assigments I wanted to do. I wanted to challenge myself and I did the auditory hell without listening to any of the sounds. I thought of the most gross or annoying sounds I could think of and masked them up in the most annoying form and it was the most annoying sound it make me jump. So after that I did the chrome music lab one because I love being about to make something and hear the outcome for the first time. being able to draw something and then hear my drawing was really cool! Then I wanted to do a mashup with some music but I didn’t want it to be too much since I have never done anything with music involved. I mean for my first time, I think I did pretty good! It was hard to find the right songs to maskup but I just did whatever song popped up on my TikTok for you page and used those songs. I know that may not be apart of the assignment but I could think of any songs in the current moment so I resulted to the music hub, well… not so much thanks to universal.

Overall, I think this was a very fun assignments to do for this week! I loved everyones as well!

Live Listening!

Please hear me out!! I was listening I promise! but I did not have good service and my discord messages weren’t sending the day I was able to tune in and listen! I thought it was fun to listen to. I though a loud of what I heard were a lot of escalating sounds and kinda chilling! like spooky vibes! The intro was a very extreme, I saw our Professors warning but I was not prepared in the current moment. Imagine this, you are working a dinner at the CRUC (I do marketing for the dining hall at UMW!) and you have your *noise canceling* AirPods in and in an elevator with about 8 people and and you heard the intro and trying to compose yourself. I also was on sos mode on my phone becuase I don’t get service in the Nest bathroom for some reason so the radio show was paused for my poor connection. So, I took my airpods and laughed at myself and snapped my reaction after a solid 2 mintues of me laughing. But I had to listen at work because I was unable to the other days!

I took a picture of my reaction for proof! the intro got me and this was when I went to the bathroom to laugh at myself lol!

Overall I think listening to the radio show was really awesome to do! I think it was really cool to be able to use discord to be able to chat! I wish I had better service but my discord was not loading up to message but I saved the radio show link in my phone so i could listen. I could see what everyone was saying but I just couldn’t load discord myself with my service. I do apoligies for being quiet doing that assignment!

Audio Storyboard!

I wanted to do a story of someone running and finding a good camp spot. I used Audacity to just add a ton of nature clips and mash them together. It was hard to think of a concept but I just started listening to different audios and put them in a good order I thought sounded nice. I added footsteps first and really liked it, I wanted it to almost sound like the person was going through different habitats but then I thought it would be fun to make it night time so thats what I did! I wanted it to have a nice bonfire sound with the night sky and have a more relaxing sound. I also added a yawn and a zip as if someone was zipping up a sleeping bag. I think making a story out of audio was a different learning experience, it is such a cool and unique way of telling a story.

As I did research, I found that a story is told by sound in audio storytelling, which combines spoken word, music, sound effects, and background noise to create a well-planned experience for listeners. Audio storytelling, in contrast to typical written narratives, is a potent medium for expressing ideas and emotions because it uses the aural sense to stimulate emotional reactions and vivid mental pictures.

Audio storytelling is a solid and fascinating narrative medium that builds connection, empathy, and creativity in its listeners. As technology advances, the possibilities for creative and captivating audio storytelling experiences are virtually limitless. It was enjoyable for my first time doing audio storytelling!

Daily Creates!

these are the daily Creates I did for the week! I was a bit picky this week because one of the daily creates confused me a bit so I did the “message in the sky”, “silk drawing”, and “secret enterance.”

for the plane, I literally had no clue what i would have said but if I had the money to put a message up, I think I would just pull a prank where it just says “ahhhh” as if the plane is screaming.

I also did the Silk Drawing one and I was just messing around and it started to look like a butterfly so I continued the butterfly idea.

The last one I did was the secret entrance. I just thought if you fell down that hole that you would fall and see a long cave hallway. It also gave me Game of Thrones dungeon vibes.

I think the daily creates are a easy assignment and I do actually enjoy doing them! I just get very cluttered with all the blog posts I have to do and this just feels like a factory reset for this class, almost like its the only thing I am confident I am doing correctly.

Radio Bumper and Radio Show Ideas!

I am not sure if I was supposed to do it in the beginning of the week to hear it on the ds106 radio but I with personal reason I was only able to start it on Wednesday. I wasn’t sure what I had wanted to do so I did what I would want for a radio bumper for my own show!

This is the bumper I had created! I wanted to use a little easter egg for any swifties out there! I wanted to add “are you ready for it” because when I was making the bumper, it was around the grammys and I thought she would be announcing Reputation (tv) but she dropped a NEW album!! She is also a big impact in my life as we can probably tell. I think for my idea for a radio show, having Taylor Swift as the bumper just makes total sense! my radio show idea is also an all female music to empower women. Sometimes women just want to listen to something more empowering to them and not so much rap and country. With everything going on, having female artists shine as their rights are stripped is a really strong idea. With Roe v Wade, I feel like there is a new wave a feminism going around and with the NFL’s fragile masculinity I think an all female artist station can be refreshing!

overall, I hope I am able to combine the radio bumper assignment and my radio show idea into one blog post to make my mind a lot less cluttered with all the different blog posts we have to do!
