Audio Reflection

The use of audio in this storytelling experience was captivating and immersive. Starting with the audio allowed for immediate engagement with the story, and the introduction of a narrator after the crash added depth. The background sounds, like the beeping of the spaceship and the buzzing noise of space, enhanced the sense of being in the moment. The meticulous attention to these audio elements highlighted the thoughtfulness behind the storytelling process. Even without prior knowledge of the technical details, the audio effectively conveyed the narrative. This experience underscores the potential of audio storytelling to engage listeners, even those who typically rely on visuals. It prompts consideration for incorporating similar techniques in audio books to enhance their appeal and appreciation. This, also, enhances the feeling of immersion. A major example of this in a modern setting is podcasting. More people are becoming intrigued by storytelling without visuals.

Daily Create – Find the one-armed, half-brained, miniature version of what you do

For me, I always leave time for drawing practice everyday. If there ever is a day where I have no time to draw, I feel that the day is incomplete. Another thing I do that I always have time for is mentally noting down summaries of scenes I want to add to my stories. Initially, I have an idea for my stories and I slowly add more details day by day. These thoughts and mental notes occur during walks or before sleeping. It’s become a habit of mine that needs to happen everyday for me.

Week 3 Reflection

This week was very enlightening. I had used AI in the past, but I had never delved into the different options for AI art. It was a little underwhelming when I realized that the requirements for getting a half-decent AI image was very restrictive. After working on the assignment, I tested out different AI image creators and found out that there are many flaws with the tech. Natural body language is extremely difficult for the AI to do when I asked for dynamic poses. Hands and small details are blurry and smudged. I have not used AI image creators that cost money, so I am not sure how much better it is. But from what I have seen, I am not impressed.

Update: There is one AI image creator that is somewhat decent. It’s name is PixAI. It is limited to an anime-style, but there is enough variations and tools you can implement into the instructions you give, so there is more room for variation. I left a link below.

Blue Butterfly in a Suit

AI art has always been a strange topic to talk about. I am practicing drawing, which is extremely difficult and seeing AI create art in seconds is upsetting. But I still believe that AI can never recreate the personal aspect that people add to their creative work. This assignment was fun, but it made me realize how important language is to the AI, as it cannot create the image you have in your mind exactly the way you wish. I used Stable Diffusion first and entered the prompt, “Blue butterfly in a suit.” I thought the outcome would be a butterfly with a human body, wearing a suit. But to my surprise, it was something else.

This was ridiculous. I tried using Craiyon, but every outcome was a regular butterfly.

I tried adding more detail in the text and it got very strange. My description changed to, “blue butterfly with a humanistic body wearing a suit and holding a cigar”. This was the result on Stable Diffusion.

Pretty disturbing stuff. Though it is not what I asked for, it still has a unique aspect to it.

Craiyon was unable to give a correct result. It stuck with a basic image of a blue butterfly. It is probably the worst result out of everything else. While the Stable Diffusion result was completely different, it was still creative enough to keep me interested. This is the Craiyon result.

Overall, it was fun to try new descriptions but the process of creating these images are questionable. The act of taking other artists work without permission should be pressed on. I think that use of AI art can be interesting as long as it is purely for creative purposes. I think using AI for profit is ethically wrong, since artists have not given permission for these algorithms to use. I think the use of AI is inevitable, but people need to set their limits on how far we should allow this to act.

Reflection on Design

I have a deep love for movies and the culture around it, but I focused more on the creative choices within the stories. The design of the posters and the title itself is a creative process that, when done right, can subconsciously give the audience a feeling to go off of. Seeing how Stranger Things used an 80’s font and design gives an aesthetic and nostalgic feeling for many people. I think it is important to see any form of creativity and question why it affects you in the way it does. For example, the use of color and size in posters is much more complex than I had imagined. They can give hints on the genre and mood of the movie from one image.
