DS106 4 Life

I have decided to bring my first ever picture of my course character: Josh. It brought my memories to use an old picture. I hope you enjoy my last video in DS106.

I have never had a class that I enjoyed so much that it pains me to leave everything behind. You know what they say, you never you what you have until it is gone. The number of hours I have spent on this computer trying to get everything perfect because I, myself wanted to make something I was proud of. For me, this class was not about getting a grade but instead it was growing my knowledge from making of stickers/ logos to making full videos.

I remember starting this class thinking I needed to drop it because it was so hard and time consuming. I am so happy that I stayed and pushed through the late nights at the beginning of the semester. It was 100% worth calling mom and complaining about how hard this class was. By the end of the class, I was able to show her how far I have come.

Right now, for me, it is a bittersweet moment. I say this because I have learned so much but I really do not want to stop learning. I felt like a kid again, playing around with video and audio. This class was not class but instead it was a family with all the commenting and reaching out to one another. It is a support system that I will truly miss.

Here is to a GREAT semester, a family online, and the best class I have ever taken. Thank all of you for following along my journey in DS106. I will miss this family we all have created. DS106 4 Life.

Week 14 Summary

This week we were asked to complete our final project which I did complete on time. I was worried that I would not be able to get it in on time because I am currently driving from Virginia to California; however, it was done a day early!

I made sure to do my updates along the way of this two-week project and I am glad that I did not wait until the last minute to complete it. It took a lot of effort and time to create my show.

I did six different posts working up until my completion. If you would like to view or read about my experience, please click on the button below to view.

I chose not to do any day creates because I have been busy driving and packing that I barely had time to sleep. I am excited that I was able to take my work on the go and still experience my adventures.

I hope everyone enjoys my hard work of a show!

Final Project: Rumors Unleashed

For this project, I used these websites below:

Each of these websites were learned through this class. They were pretty much self-taught and I only went to the reading and writing center once this semester for help setting up WordPress

I used a combination of Wave2lip, attaching sounds and adding new voices to create my final project. I used my creative to be able to create a storyline that really makes my audience listen and wanted to stay focused into my show. Overall, I am pleased with myself and how much time and effort I put into this show. I hope you all like it just as much as I did!

If you would like to read about the long process of making this show, feel free to read my other post:

Final Project: Update Before the Show

I have been driving to California this whole week and so I needed to find time to up pick out the sounds off of Freeform while my boyfriend drove. Which was working really well until I noticed that after “downloading” about 10 sounds, none of them actually saved. After that realization I wrote the title of the sounds down and I put them into my computer when I got to a hotel room so that I was able to download them.

After I was finished downloading all of the sounds I needed, I placed them in their specific spots on the show. This part of the project did not take too long, but I did get upset that I spent about 30 mins listening to different sounds just for them not to save and I had to find them all over again.

After I was finished with the sounds, I rewatched my video so many times and did some tweaking for the sounds to make sure they were not too loud or too quiet. I rewatched it again and I was so proud of myself! I really do wish it was longer, but I feel as though I had a solid plot and I feel like I completed it to the best of my ability.

Final Project: Matching Game

I spent from 12am- 6am working on recording my script and using the program Wav2lip to creating the Josh videos. I also worked on matching up the other voices to the correct spots on the video. I was really hoping to finish this project throughout this night, but I still need to put sound effects on the video.

All of the comments I got on my script were so heartwarming to read and I really liked the pointer I got from others. Some of the ideas I got, I did include but others were very difficult for me to achieve however I did try to create a newspaper because I REALLY liked that idea, but it was hard to put a picture into the video and make it look like it belongs.

I used many websites to help me out for all the voices and getting them into MP3. I also used Wav2lip and we ALL know how long it takes to create one video…I created about 7 different scenes because Josh was position differently in each one.

In order to get the voices I used murf.ai and then I recorded them talking on my phone because I did not want to pay in order to download them onto my computer. For some reason the voice recorder on iPhone sends the audio in a M4A and I need them to be MP3 for ClipChamp and Wav2 Lip as well. I used this website that has been a savor for me this semester.

After I got them all onto my computer by emailing myself the audio off my phone then I had to cut the video piece by piece to get the Josh videos only. I want to emphasize “piece by piece” so one frame of Josh I would have to match up with one of the audios. This part was so time consuming, but I am so proud of myself that I completed all 7 frames in one sitting throughout one night.

Once I got all the Josh videos with the correct audio attached to them, I started putting together my video and the other audios: “the ghosts and the storyteller” which are another 3 characters withing my video. I ended up cutting some of the video because the was a lot of left over video after the audio so right now the video looks like it will be about 4 mins and 30 seconds long. I feel as though because I am putting good quality and so many different angles that it being less than 5 minutes will be okay. Hopefully.

I am so proud of myself for really pushing myself to do so much work because I want to create something that I can show my friends and family! They have been a big support for me during this class and they like to visit my page which makes me super happy.

Anyways, the only thing I need to do is add sound effects and then I will be all done. I am hoping to maybe put in 3 more hours for that and make my total time for this project around 18 hours…for less than 5 minutes…crazy but hopefully it will be worth it.

Final Project: Script

I decided to make a script tonight to hopefully make this week easier. I picked out all the frames and put them together accordingly. I am hoping to at least make 5 Minutes for my video, and it is looking promising! In the next couple of days, I will be putting some words into people’s faces and hoping they look good enough!

Feel free to read the script but just know that things might still change before it is completely done.

*eerie music in the beginning showing the house*

(person:)    This is the house where Aggressive Technologies started its business and due to the poor working conditions, it was shut down. A couple still lingers around, and you can hear their laughter, footsteps, and the sound of the thud when the wife slipped and fell from the steps. With the husband being the only one in the house, everyone pointed the blame on him. Little did anyone else know but there have always been ghosts running around this mansion.

Josh: Hello everyone, welcome to the house of Jesse and Emily. They were known as the happy couple in their time around the 1970’s and these are the steps that Jesse pushed Emily down and if you listen closely enough you can hear the thuds multiple times. Many people believe that it is Emily falling onto the floor as she keeps reliving the moment.

(person:) Each step you take up these stairs will cause more and more creaking because of how old they are. And looking down you can see how far it is from the top to the bottom of these steps.

Josh: Aggressive Technologies had a lot going on at the time of the 1970’s it was up and coming with all the new inventions like my flying cars and mopeds. I am glad to say that my flying cars are flying all over the roads now. So much has changed within 10 years.

Josh: Actually, when I started my business, I was working with Emily and Jesse, we were all trying to make flying cars happen until a tragic accident occurred leaving me to question what really happened here. Too bad no one will ever know the truth because they are both dead now.

Josh: Woh! As I am walking through I can hear some foot steps up above me! Maybe it is morse code. Lets see if we can crack it for fun.

JOsh: I am the power to the flying cars and aggressive technology had to be taken down so no one could have my credit. Emily was going to tell the world once she found out I was in it for the money. I played it like it was Jesse who pushed her, but it was me. I killed her. And then I killed Jesse by hanging him by the stairs.

JOsh: Now that everything is out in the open, I feel much better telling the world they are all going to die because they can never get out of the flying cars once they start driving. That is why there are so many missing people and cars in the air.

Emily: Thank you for helping me out, Now I am free!

Jesse: Now Emily and I can be together forever laying in bed, Thank you for helping us solve this mystery.

Week of PG-13

This week is all about preparing for the finals which will take place next week. I was happy to hear that we were given two weeks to complete the final project for this class. I am excited to see how my show will turn out but only time will tell.

If you would like to see what my show’s plot is going to be you can click on the button below.

Next, I dove a little bit deeper into the start of the video making. Clicking on the picture will take you that post.

As for the daily creates I decided to opt out this week because I have been doing so much for my other classes and I am starting to feel overwhelmed. Part of me wishes that I did at least one because they are still my favorite thing but I am hoping to do some of them next week.

Final Project: Middle Line

Click on picture to be directed to the YouTube video I will be using.

The YouTube video is in color, but I changed by putting it into Clipchamp and clicking on the black and white filter. I would like my video to be blacker, but I will work on the look of the video next week.

I will be using this video for its visual content, but I will also be looking for some pop-ups jump scares to add to this video. I have already split up my video and took out the parts I did not want to use.

There is a male talking throughout this video and he will be my character, “Josh.” But a cleaner looking version of him. I will use the videos of him, and I will type up a script for him to say. My focus early next week (or tomorrow) is the script and making “Josh” say his script as well as finding some good scary sounds to use. Then at the end I will put everything together.

Signing into a Show: Final Project

Outline-

I will be creating a show that hopefully will be on the longer side because I really want to showcase everything that I have learned. However, I was having difficulty trying to find a theme for the show. I have been thinking nonstop for about 4 days and I needed some inspiration.

I know from past experience that we cannot use animation to make people talk which is okay. I was thinking of finding something that will keep you on your toes while watching but without having a lot of talking but more sounds instead. I ended up going on google to try to help me find a theme or plot for my show. On robinpiree I was able to find this:

Secrets of the Old Manor: An estranged family inherits an old manor, leading to the discovery of hidden passages, secret rooms, and a haunting mystery from their lineage.”

This gave me a huge idea! What about a tour of an old house? It would be PERFECT! The reason I say this is because it would be in black in white film so it solves my issue of “what if the colors do not line up” and it solves my issue with having someone to talk that will look apart of the show because again, it is black and white.

An old house will have creaks, water dripping, maybe wind if a window is open. It is pretty much an open book for the sounds I could use. Also, I will make it a scary vibe with certain kinds of music.

My plot (if everything goes right) is to have maybe a husband and wife move into an old house and they realize there is more to the house than what they believed when they bought it.

The prompt I will trying to achieve is:

“Characters and Aggressive Technologies. Bring some of the story threads the class has developed over the past several weeks to a conclusion. You might build upon the radio show project or go in a different direction. This concept has good potential for collaboration because you could develop intersecting or interrelated storylines and work remotely and asynchronously. It would be interesting to see how many stories we could get to intersect, or even connect tangentially.”

Week 1 And 2 =12

My life right now is work and school with little of sleep. I am so excited because soon enough the classes are going to be finished and I will be doing a road trip from Virginia to California!

As far as this class:

This week was weird for me because it was an easy assignment, but I ran into issues that I did not know it was me that was messing up. I thought it was the program being stupid. Now I know that yes; it was me messing up. It makes me laugh now but at the time of figuring out I was pissed off. However, we worked with what we could, and the result of the video and my struggle is down below:

* Not sure why the beginning is super blurry, it is clearer on YouTube.

Next, we had 3 daily creates:

I enjoyed this week’s load, but I really like rules and we did not have much this week. It makes me uneasy not knowing how I am doing in this class and I know the end is right around the corner. I am really going to miss this class. I do not know how the professor made this class so special without having an in-person class. I know that I will always think back to this class because I have learned so much from audio making, video making, discord, mastodon, etc.
