Aggressive Technologies Taking Over

In order to complete this assignment, we had to create a propaganda design and tie it to our course character. According to Professor Bond’s statement in our assignment description, propaganda is meant to be an enticing message to the masses in order to influence a group of people in order to further an agenda. Making a propaganda poster from the viewpoint of Aggressive Technologies was the approach I chose to pursue. “The Only Thing Better Than AI is Aggressive Technologies,” reads my propoganda poster. With this poster, Aggressive Technologies want to draw attention to AI, but more significantly, to their own business. Because they aim to spread their AI technology around the globe, they want to instill the idea of artificial intelligence in everyone.  The majority of people find aggressive technologies and AI fascinating. Aggressive Technologies is a formidable technological business that aims to transform every aspect of human existence through AI. The world is unaware that Aggressive Technologies aspires to spy and monitor people’s homes everywhere in the world, like to Big Brother. The CEO of Aggressive Technologies has negative plans for AI, but it will take time for everyone to catch on.

You might wonder how this relates to my course. Julius Lawrence, as you might have read in previous blog entries, my course character is presently being investigated for insider trading after Aggressive Technologies made this claim. Xander Neurotic, a buddy of Julius’s, is currently working to revolutionize AI technology, though not nearly to the same extent as Aggressive Technologies. Though the world is unaware that Aggressive Technologies is attempting to employ AI to take over the world, Julius is aware that the company is trying to paint him and Xander as the villains. What will happen next??

Week 6 Highlights: That’s a Wrap

I had to choose between three video assignment bank assignments and “talk to the bot” in week six. In the end, I decided to complete three assignments from the bank because I think there is always something fascinating to do. For my first assignment, I had to make a top 10 list or ranking video on YouTube. Here is the result: My Top 10 NBA Players (with a slight twist). I ranked my top 10 NBA players with a slight twist. I had a great time doing this, and I would absolutely do it again in the future. The next video assignment I choose to work on required me to make a tiktok of your pet acting in a funny manner and overlay the video with a funny or well-known sound. Having fun, I gave my course character a dog of his own. You can view my tiktok at My Course Character’s First Dog, with a TikTok included if you’d like. My latest video assignment was really simple, all I had to do was record a video, no more than eight seconds, of me doing somethat that I do every day. Check out what I decided to do at My Daily Activity. It may not be the most creative idea ever, but I do it every single day. Next, I put a bit of work into creating the story for my course character that you can see here: Julius Lawrence faces uphill battle vs Aggressive Technologies. This was a lot of fun because it developed my character’s plot and I was able to connect him to a classmate’s course character. After that, on Saturday, I completed the Daily Creates at Daily Create #1. additionally on Monday: Daily Create #2. As Professor Bond mentions, I feel a sense of community and connection among the DS106 students, therefore I left comments on a few blogs made by classmates.

This week, too, I finished my assignments without any issues. Making the YouTube video featuring the top ten NBA players was the assignment I most enjoyed this week. To be honest, it wasn’t that difficult to make, and I was pleased with the outcome. As a huge sports fan, I grew up watching videos about rankings, so creating my own was fun. If you have been following the journey of my course character, who happens to be an NBA player right now, I also added a little twist to my rankings. In the future, maybe, I’ll create some more ranking videos!

Honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing. I think I completed each task to the best of my ability. I don’t have any questions right now. Everything was finished carefully, thus my work isn’t experiencing any major issues.

It’s Everyday Bro

The last video assignment I decided to complete was called “What do you do?” The assignment’s guidelines instructed you to record a minimum of eight seconds of a certain daily activity. Find the assignment here: What Do You Do Assignment. I just opted to record myself cleaning my teeth, since I do that every single day. View my video up above! To be honest, I was sitting in my room trying to think of things I did every day, and brushing my teeth is definitely one of those things. It’s probably not the most original thing I could have done.

Julius Lawrence vs Aggressive Technologies

Julius Lawrence, my course character, has left his position as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs to pursue a career in the NBA, as I mentioned in one of my recent blog posts. You would know that Julius is currently playing for the Philadelphia 76ers and is playing like the best player in the NBA if you watched my Top 10 assignment bank video. But Julius has been making headlines lately for all the wrong reasons. Recently, a news article surfaced claiming that Julius Lawrence, who oversaw Aggressive Technologies’ finances at Goldman Sachs, engaged in insider trading. According to the news article, Julius would have been fully aware of Aggressive Technologies’ efforts to enter the AI market, which is precisely why he would have purchased a large amount of their stock at a time when it was expected to soar.

In response, Julius says right away that this is all false. Although he does own shares in Aggressive Technologies, it is because Xander Neurotic, a longstanding employee of the company and one of his close friends, worked there and he himself decided to buy shares well before the business took off. Julius is aware that the main reason Aggressive Technologies are after him is because they are furious with his friend Xander. Recently, Xander learned that Aggressive Technologies was planning to steal his creation of an AI agent chip and that they would fire him right away. He took his innovation, founded Xander Technologies, and released the AI chip ahead of Aggressive Technologies before they could fire him. Aggressive Technologies is allegedly planning to go after all of Xander’s friends and family, and who better to target than the prominent NBA player who oversaw Aggressive Technologies’ finances?

Although it seems like Julius and Xander are in a difficult situation, they wouldn’t be where they are now if they hadn’t encountered some difficulties. They will need to work together to defeat Aggressive Technology by confronting this problem head-on.

Julius Lawrence’s Dog

“TikTok of your pet” is the name of the next video assignment I decided to complete. It can be accessed at TikTok of Pet Assignment. The instructions for the job were rather straightforward: make a tiktok of your pet acting silly, then overlay the video with a humorous or well-known sound. This is Mason, a black lab that is my dog. Since our course character must appear in two of the three video projects, I will claim that this is truly Otis, the dog of my course character. Julius Lawrence became lonely living alone in New York after graduating from UVA, so he adopted an older black lab and they have since become closest friends. Check out my tiktok linked above and the photos of the two below, they do everything together! As you can see from the pictures below, Otis has quite the personality.

Top 10 NBA Players With a Slight Twist

Rather than talk to the bot as option A, I choose to complete the three video assignments from the assignment bank. Top 10 or Ranking Video Assignment is the link to the first assignment bank I decided to do. I was given the task of creating a top 10 or ranking video that you watch below on  YouTube. I’ve been watching a lot of NBA lately, so I thought I would rate my current top 10 players. Videos of some of the players’ best plays from this season are included in my top 10. Julius Lawrence, my course character, is currently the best player in the NBA, as you will see when you look through my top ten. He has been the best player in the NBA ever since he quit his job at Goldman Sachs, joined the 76ers, and revived his basketball career!

Highlights and Insights

There were only three blog posts this week, which seems like less than some of the previous workloads we’ve had. This week, I completed my first daily create on Friday and my second on Monday. However, I must admit that I wasn’t too fond of the prompts this week. It turned out okay, on Friday I made a graphic with a lot of various colors and forms. You can see it here: Daily Create #1. I was not sure what to do with the “my gratitude zine” poster I created as my next daily create on Monday. You can view my post at Daily Create #2  if you want to. I then worked on the assignment of going over my goals again.  This allowed me the opportunity to consider the initial goals I set for the class and see whether there was anything I could add or modify to my initial post. My revised semester goals can be found at Course Goals #2. I then studied the two articles on film analysis and film analysis – storytelling that Professor Bond provided us. After reading those articles, I have come to understand cinema analysis to be the study and interpretation of the materials and methods utilized in a film to tell a story and deliver a message.I had already seen episodes of Black Mirror, which I watched afterwards; they are always really fascinating. After that, I started watching Tony Zhou’s incredible series, watching every available video.I completely agree with Professor Bond that camera, lighting, and editing are necessary for the majority of what we believe to be outstanding acting, story, and conversation after watching Tony’s videos and listening to him break down and analyze the complexities of film making. Video can convey a story, much like everything else we have studied in this course. I then started working on the video essay, putting the knowledge I had been acquiring to use. At Video Essay, you may read and watch my assignment. I chose a scene from Avengers: Infinity War, focusing on aspects I felt I could discuss, such as the design, special effects, visual composition, and editing.  As I reiterate every week, I really enjoyed leaving comments on my classmates’ posts as I wrapped up this week’s assignments.  Observing others’ work and contrasting it with mine is enjoyable. One of the interesting and distinctive aspects of this class is how each person interprets the assignments differently.

I completed the assignments without any problems this week as well. The work I most enjoyed this week was going over my initial course goals again. As I mentioned earlier, one of the reasons I enjoy this course so much is the blogging component, which allows you to review your work at any time over the semester and see your thoughts and emotions. I was able to review my pre-course goals thanks to this assignment, and I’m impressed that they were already pretty good and that the goals I established for this week are still mostly in line with them. I am aware that Professor Bond stated we will review our objectives several times. This, in my opinion, is crucial since it allows you to evaluate and allows your goals to potentially change every few weeks.

To be honest, I wouldn’t alter a thing. I believe I did each task as successfully  as I could. I have no more questions at this time. As of right now, everything was completed accurately, thus there aren’t any significant problems with my work.

The Art of Filmaking: A Scene from Avengers: Infinity War

This week’s major assignment was to choose a moment from a movie that included AI and then use voice-over narration to discuss it. We were instructed to concentrate on the filmmaking technique rather than the acting or plot during the voice-over narration. Even though Professor Bond says it could be simpler to examine a movie you don’t particularly enjoy, I decided to base my video essay on a scene from Avengers: Infinity War, which is one of my all-time favorite films. The particular scene I choose was when Thanos attacks Vision, an AI superhero, to take the mind stone out of Vision’s head.  I chose this scene because it had a lot going on in a short amount of time, including excellent editing, special effects, and visual composition. View my video essay above!

Looking Back to the Beginning

I’ll be reflecting today on the objectives I set for myself before  beginning this class’s coursework. If you would want to review the original post, here is a link to it: Original DS106 Goals. My objectives for the work I have completed so far in ds106 are, I would say, largely similar with what I outlined the first time around. Even though most classes give us students clear-cut instructions, I still want to be as creative as I can. In contrast, many of the assignments in this class are left open-ended for our own interpretation. I’ve had the opportunity to play around with several free tools and software over the past few weeks to understand how they operate. My trust in my ability to pick up new software quicker than I used to has been growing. AI was a topic I neglected to address in my course objectives. AI has a lot of promise, and I want to find the best method to apply it. Additionally, I want to learn how to employ AI in some assignments that most people wouldn’t even consider. Finding out how much AI is capable of is one of my main objectives in this course. AI has a lot of skills. I want to spend the remainder of this semester being creative and engaging with my peers.

Week 4 in the Books

There were only audio assignments to do this week! This week, I began by downloading Audacity, an audio-editing application I had never used previously, and getting acquainted with it. I then created a free Soundcloud account, albeit it turns out that I didn’t actually have one (I thought I did). After seeing “Moon Graffiti” and the two brief videos by Radio Lab’s Jad Abumrad, I published a blog post that may be found at Audio Reflection. Basically, these videos let me realize that storytelling is about more than just words and pictures. People’s creativity is often sparked by a lack of images. After that, I made my radio bumper, which I heard at around eight pm on Monday on the ds106 radio station. Making this and experimenting with Audacity, Freesounds, and my own script was enjoyable. My bumper’s soundcloud and blog are both available at Radio Bumper. After that, I finished the sound effect story, which was actually rather difficult, in my opinion. Who could imagine telling a story without any words or images? Though you can view mine at Sound Effect Story, I really liked how mine came out. After that, I worked on a breaking report for my course character that was based on a bank assignment. I created the AI-generated film using Colossyan, which was a lot of fun and added a nice little twist to the live of my course character. The blog that can be seen at Breaking News Report. Making a spooky and relaxing audio sound was the goal for the next two audio assignments I selected from the bank. I was able to locate a wide variety of noises using freesounds for both tasks; the blogs for those assignments are located at Spooky Season Audio and at Relax and Listen. I only used Audacity to import sounds that I already knew were calming or spooky. I completed the three audio assignments from the assignment bank that were asked of us, utilizing both the AI theme and my course character.  Next, on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, I finished the Daily Creates at these links:  Sunday: Daily Create #1, Monday: Daily Create #2, and Tuesday:Daily Create #3. As I’ve said before, the daily creates always get my mind working, even though they can be difficult to come up with ideas for at times. I continued by leaving comments on around four of my classmates’ blogs. I usually love this part of the week because I get to see how other people interpret the assignments and how they’re coming along with their own work. Many of my students have excellent ideas, which motivates me to strive for excellence in my own work as well. Following this, I jotted down any ideas I had for a brainstorm radio show. Right now, I’m going to collaborate with Rishi Shankar, and we want to incorporate our course characters. You can read my post at Brainstorming Radio Ideas. This week came to an end with me listening to the ds106 radio. My thoughts are available at DS106 Radio Thoughts. Since I wouldn’t be able to see what was happening, I basically learned to focus on the noises and little elements of the live story we were told through only sounds. I had to be attentive and take note of whatever I could.

This week, I had no trouble finishing the assignments. This week’s work that I enjoyed the most was coming up with ideas for radio shows for both Rishi and my course character. I’ve mentioned it before, but working with the course character is a lot of fun because I get to decide everything that occurs to him. I believed that the concepts I came up with for the radio show would be excellent topics for Rishi and me to discuss. I hope to work on the assignment in the future; it should be enjoyable.

Honestly, there is nothing that I would change. I think I completed each task as effectively and uniquely as possible. I don’t have any other questions. As of now, everything was finished correctly, therefore there aren’t any major issues with my work.
