Passion, Young, Fever

The time has come where we wrap it all up and conclude this season. The finale, the end, or even the beginning?

I titled this last post “passion, young, fever” as it comes from my one of my favorite songs from my favorite band, ATEEZ, which I will embed here:

The lyrics talk about being thankful for your youth that prepared you for your future, and using your experiences and what you’ve learned to move forward and to let go of the pressures of life. It’s very special to me, and I bring it all together here because I think that is what ds106 has taught me: the passion of my peers and myself, the work we put into this, and how it’ll lead to a new chapter for me outside of my youth. I’m 20 years old taking this course and writing this, I still have so many years ahead of me, and I’ll use what I’ve learned here further on.

I talked about this in my video, which I will embed here,

but this is why Aggressive Technologies could use ds106! This is why the world could use ds106! Ds106 taught me passion, ds106 taught me creativity, ds106 taught me time management and gave me stress that made me want to rip my hair out and explode . . . but it helped me push forward.

I saw and read so many experiences throughout this class about people’s stress, but how they overcame it, and it is so heartwarming. I’m really proud of everyone in this class for what they have done, what they have created, and how they have succeeded.

I’m an optimist, but I think everyone in this class is going to go far. There are so many ideas that were brewed within this class, and often times, I really felt like I was one of the least creative people in this class, because everyone was just coming up with stuff that were beautiful and amazing and that I could have never thought of!

There is so much individuality within us all. We all are coming from different places, different lives, different stories, and maybe that’s the story we tell without needing to directly speak our experiences. We speak our stories through our ideas, through our creativity, through these projects. We speak our stories through our passion.

It goes beyond Aggressive Technologies, beyond AI, beyond our course characters, beyond ds106. Past this class, we will be living our lives and still be telling our stories. Each text we send is a digital story, each post we make is a digital story, and it goes beyond digitally, too!

Humans are just . . . really, really cool. Maybe this is coming from being a psychology major, but it is just so beautiful seeing how different our brains are, how individual everyone is. It makes me feel a lot better.

So, to finally stop rambling, I just want to thank everyone in this class for their hard work. I’m proud of you, if that means anything, and I wish you well in your lives. Additional thanks to anyone who commented on my works, you motivated me to continue instead of slamming my head into my desk or exploding. Many, many thanks to my groupmates through the group projects, for helping me with time management and producing beautiful ideas from within, and hearing me out on my own crazy ideas.

You all are great and amazing!!

So, this is Destiny and Sol signing out, but everyone take care of yourselves! <3

Finally Done – Week 14 Summary – 4/10-4/26

We’ve done it!! We’re at the end!!

I’m going to speedrun through this so I can get to working on some final papers I have . . . so, here is my song of the week!

Need this song injected into my head so that I hear it every second of every day.

Final Project Update

I ended up making my project update on Tuesday, I think, as I ended up getting a lot of work done that night that I wasn’t anticipating doing. There’s not really a lot to say about this, just that I was really happy to have gotten so much done so soon, and my group had also gotten most of their work done as well! We were doing great!!

Final Project

And the final project!

I talk about it much more in the actual post, but I was very pleased with this. I used so much of what I learned to do my parts in this, and my groupmates did an amazing job as well, and we really made something really cool!!

I’m grateful to have finished this in the time that I did. I was nervous that I’d be really late with mine due to having the flu last week, but I managed! And it’s not even 4 pm on Friday and we’re done, so I get to call it a day early. I’m so happy about that.

Very happy with my results, and I hope you all are too!

Overall, this week was fun!! I didn’t think I had much difficulty with my parts in the projects, and I was able to create good and interesting parts for our AI uprising video using what I have learned throughout the semester. I’m very grateful!!

I fear this may be my final weekly summary, or maybe there is one next week, so this is a little sad . . . but I’m grateful for all that I have learned!! 🙂

BREAKING NEWS – AI Uprising – Final Project

It’s done!! We finally finished!!

Me, Sarah, Greta, Leila, and Sol put together this project. We wanted to showcase a bunch of news media revolving around an AI uprising.

We split our work up individually, working on our own things to all paste together into the final project. I’m not sure about the others, but I used websites such as Fliki to create TikTok-like videos filled with information of the AI uprising, and then I used InVideo to create the News-Like videos. I also made some of the headlines with the help of ChatGPT (because how ironic is it to have an AI make headlines about an AI uprising), and I made screenshots of said headlines by taking my own screenshots of real news sources and editing my headline overtop. Overall, this was the main bulk of it that took the most time. I don’t think I had many issues with the applications I used, besides annoying watermarks that are out of my control because I am not about to spend money on this, all went well!

I think I was able to combine everything I’ve learned throughout the semester into this, which was really fun. I did some audio editing, used some video applications and then I edited the first half together using OpenShot. I even did just some image creating with the headlines, which was a lot of fun. I used a lot of applications I discovered over the semester, even some new ones like InVideo, and I just overall had a really good time. It was nice being able to work on all of this and actually know what I was doing, which makes me think that I really have learned!

I’m not sure what else to say, just that I’m very grateful to have worked on this with my group, who put out excellent work, and I’m very happy with the final product.

Lots of Progress Made – Final Project Update

Today I spat out a lot of work, surprisingly to me. Mostly, what I have done is create fake TikTok-like videos about the AI uprising, one positive and one negative, and then I used ChatGPT to help me spit out some serious and some goofy fake headlines. Tomorrow, I plan to use those headlines to create fake screenshots of the headlines.

My group has also gotten a lot done. We all have our to-do lists in the document, and it looks like the majority of us are pretty done with it outside of editing it all together. We also organzied how we want to put it all together, and I made a little checklist for what we have and don’t have for certain parts of the project, and the majority of it looks done! Honestly, it really looks like I’m the only one still with stuff to do outside of editing!

Tomorrow’s plan is to make the fake screenshots of the headlines, and then I want to do some more poster-making to create awareness posters or propaganda posters about the AI uprising to include in the project. Then, I think I will be done with my individual things, and I believe that means we should be able to start editing everything together on Thursday, which me and Sarah plan to do.

Overall, it’s looking good!! Very excited to see it all together!

The Flu – Week 13 Summary – 4/12-4/19

Nothing could have prepared me for how I felt this week. I woke up Sunday sick because my sister was sick (and then my brother and then my sister in law and then my sister’s boyfriend and then my grandma and then my grandpa . . . like it never stopped it was a terrible domino effect of people getting sick) and so I had to cancel work, and then it just kept getting worse and worse . . . I have been in bed literally all week and that’s all I’ve done. I’ve missed all of my classes and this is so unlike me but guess whaaaaat my whole family has the flu!

The flu is not fun . . . I’ve felt miserable and half alive this entire week. So, because of that, there really is nothing to say during this weekly summary. There isn’t even a song for the week because I didn’t play music once, I just rotted in my bed and watched Impractical Jokers and drank water until I exploded.

But, here is my progress update for the final project!

I talked about it in the post, but I plan to be working on my parts of project this weekend, as I’m now finally feeling better and less dead! As for where we’re going, I’m excited to be working on this with my group. We all have some cool ideas and I’m excited to see what it all looks like put together.

Otherwise, that’s all for my weekly summary, because I really didn’t do much this week outside of getting on our document and adding like a sentence every other day and apologizing in the group chat for being ill (they understand and sympathize, so I’m not beat up over it)

Thank you for tuning in!

The Uprising of AI – Progress Update

Hey everyone!! It feels really weird only having one post this week outside of the weekly summary, but here we are!

This week, I’ve gotten in a group with Greta, Sarah, Leila, and Sol for the final project. We’re going to be creating a sort of compliation of breaking news and sources that are telling the chaos of an AI uprising. It’s really interesting!!

As of right now, we have a document and a group chat that we’ve been talking in. We’ve laid out our plans and ideas, and we all put down what we individually can do. For me, I’m planning on creating some AI propaganda posters, make little info TikTok videos about what’s going on, and create a bunch of headlines that we can use. I’ll probably end up doing some more, but I haven’t had time to work this week for reasons that I will get into during the Weekly Summary. Everyone else also has created lists of what they plan to do, so we are all organized and planned out that way, we just have to get some work done.

Sarah offered to edit it all together, but I thought it’d be nice if I helped edit it together, too, like her and I did for the audio project. Thursday is the day we want to have everything done so we can edit it together then. This weekend, I plan to work on my part.

Explosion of Stress – Week 12 Summary – 4/5-4/12

I am on the verge of exploding I will not lie, the stress that I feel is immense and as I’m writing this it is not letting me export or save my video project from iMovie and I don’t know what I’m going to do!! So I’m procrastinating and starting my weekly summary (update, the moment I finished writing this sentence I WAS ABLE TO EXPORT IT tears came to my eyes because I didn’t think this would actually happen)

Here’s song of the week, of course:

love it love it love it

umm new update on exporting IT WONT WORK BECAUDSE I HAVE NO SPACE AND NOW I REALLY DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO

now I am trying to send it to my Google Drive but I have no idea if this is going to work

(update: it didn’t . . . but the exporting war will be mentioned on the original video post!!)

Daily Creates

Not much to say about these, but they were fun!! Big fan of the daily creates, they really get my brain working (which is exactly the point!) Definitely needed this before I started working on my papers in other classes this week.

Video Project

I fought a war. A war was fought. I’m still fighting the war. I don’t know what to do. (i won the war (i had to delete all of my phone storage))

Outside of the war of exporting, this was fun! It was nice talking to my family and friends about these things and hearing different thoughts. I also actually had a good time editing too. I just wish I could get it to export . . . my next option is screen recording. Will update this post if I get that to work. (update: i didn’t have to!!)

As I was commenting, I noticed a major flaw . . . people had much smaller videos than I did . . . maybe I am overambitious. It kind of makes me want to rip my skin off, I won’t lie, but the work is already done and I can’t take it back. I just need it to export.

But note for future me, it is okay to not make the most perfect video. You’re still learning, you don’t need to work so hard. Give yourself a break!!

Never again

Differing AI Views – Video Project

This week, I interviewed my family and friends about their views on AI to get a sense of the differing views of this new future that’s upon us.

It was really interesting hearing these different views. It was also really hard to hold back my own thoughts, but I did, because I wanted this to be unbiased and not about me.

I put my plans in this post last week, and I wish people would comment on my posts more and tell me if I’m being overambitious, because I think I could’ve saved myself a lot of stress if someone just said, “hey, relax . . . you don’t have to do so much.” I used to get a lot of comments! I guess now I’m just sad that I only get around one or two a week.

Okay, no more negativity. I split my interviews up throughout the week due to time. I interviewed my brother, Bryce, on Saturday, my dad, Brian, on Sunday, my friend, Lorelei, on Tuesday, and my sister, BayLee, on Thursday. I had different people intended to interview, but had to drop them due to complications of their own time. It originally was not going to be mostly my family, but I had to work with what I had.

Interesting thing, my brother, Bryce, is getting married today! So that’s in my later plans for the day!

After recording, I ended up putting everything together Thursday night and Friday morning. I planned to edit this together on my computer, but then I couldn’t send the recordings from my phone to my computer, and it took literally 4 hours to send 3 of the videos to my Google Drive, and I just gave up and thought it’d be better to do it on my phone through iMovie. So I did.

Editing was fun! I have fun cropping out all the “ums,” and it was so nice watching the minutes go from like 36 minutes to 20. If I had to upload a 36 minute video, I really think I would explode into a million pieces. Editing was actually also easy. It’s not like I usually do this, or have experience with it, but I understood it. iMovie was relatively easy. Until it wasn’t.

Exporting. Never again. Never. First it said export failed, then it said I had no storage, and then . . . I deleted all of my storage AND IT WORKED!! I EXPORTED IT!! I have never been happier, oh my god this was a mess.

Overall . . . this was fun! And stressful! But, I’m just happy to have it done.

Week 12 Daily Creates

I started these early so I get to post this before Friday!! Woooo!!!

On Tuesday, 4/9, the prompt was,

Twist the colors to make some Spiral Art. Use “advanced mode” for deeper settings. Go to Spiro Artwork by Zazow. What will you turn into art? Share it out. (and maybe listen to some Spiro Gyra as you work — get it?)”

So I played around with this for a few minutes and came up with this!

Nothing super interesting about the work to this one to be honest, but this was just fun and satisfying to just click around and see what it did. I like how the closer you look you can see more individual lines. It’s so cool!

On Wednesday, 4/10, the prompt was,

Write a nonet about your daily creative practice.  What’s a nonet? I discovered this form thanks to Sam. A nonet is a nine-line poem. In the nonet form, each line contains specific, descending syllable counts. The first line contains nine syllables, the second line contains eight, the third line contains seven, and so on. The last line of nonet poetry contains one syllable. The nonet is a poetic form that can contain any rhyming scheme and cover any subject matter.  How to write a nonet.

You know I love when I’m tasked with writing something . . . that’s how I really get my brain going! I went to the first thing I could think of to write about, which was interesting, my computer’s fan, and I wrote,

The fan in my laptop screams at me
But I am barely using it
Maybe it is getting old
But it still works like new
Oh, it is calm now
Faint whispering,
it cries out,
“Upgrade
me”

Whoaaa, when I make that centered it looks really cool because of the descending syllables.

Anyways, this wasn’t too hard like I thought it would be. I just told the story of my laptop’s fan yelling at me and how maybe the laptop is getting to a point where she needs an upgrade . . . needs to be put out of her misery, perhaps. She was pricey though!! I’m not ready!!!

On Thursday, 4/11, the prompt was,

This famous New Yorker cartoon comments on the anonymity of going online. What else is true about the Internet?

And there really wasn’t a lot to think about here for me. I ended up posting,

“what else did you know about the internet? it’s listening to you . . . every word you type . . . it takes in . . . for the algorithm !”

I wanted it to be kind of eerie, so that you feel the hesitation, like, no . . . this can’t be . . . the Internet . . . it’s listening to me!! But, like, it’s normal, it’s not something we should be super concerned about because it has always done this with cookies and stuff (unless we should be concerned!)

That’s all for this week!

In the Dumps – Week 11 Summary – 3/29-4/5

What a week . . . I am so stressed as I think about my work load, losing scheduling for my job (I work with families directly so they have the power over my schedule and they are taking a break because of stress and moving so basically I’m not working), and this week was miserable for me emotionally from my own personal stuff, but you know what’s good! My brother’s getting married next week!!

Which just made me realize, I will need to get stuff done even sooner because of that . . . all nighters might be pulled . . . anticipate me complaining about stress and sleepiness in my posts next week.

Here is the song of the week (it makes me sad and I was sad so it fits)

But, here’s what happened in ds106 this week for me:

Daily Creates

Not much to talk about with these. I hope the hug thing would help some people feel better. If I could give you guys hugs, I would!!

Regardless, the last DC of the week, making a trading card for my cat, was my favorite. She’s so cute and it was so fun creating traits for her.

Radio Listening

I realized I should’ve made this post immediately after I listened, because I forgot a lot of what actually happened by leaving it until Friday, but it still works.

It was really nice listening to other shows. I wish I was able to make it to the other days, but maybe one of these days I’ll go in and listen on my own.

On that note, I’m excited to see the Video projects people are working on! I saw (and commented on) a lot of ideas and plans, and it seems everyone’s doing their own fun things, so I’m excited to see how they turn out.

Video Plan

I talk about it a lot more in the post, but I was so stressed about this. For the entire week, I had this on the back of my mind, not sure what I wanted to make, but I finally ended up with an idea!! I’m going to interview people around me to hear different thoughts on AI! They’ve already started answering my texts about scheduling it, but I haven’t checked them yet.

I’m really excited for this. I did Yearbook in high school, so interviewing people is no biggie to me, so I’m excited to rebirth the yearbook kiddo in me.

But that was my week!

I plan to schedule my week next week as soon as I get times for the interviews. I think writing down my schedule and following it will make me feel much less stressed.

Good luck everyone!!
