Weekly Summary: Wk 9

This week was a lot of fun for me, I enjoyed see the radio show come together and come to life. Im happy with the group i’m working with, they all very passionate about this project and are very sweet, willing to help each other. I had to create a poster for our radio show and I enjoyed how it came out, also making a bumper and a outro was fun, cause I can just image how our radio show already and being able to hear the finish product is going to be amazing. At first I was a little worried that I was not going to be able to communicate with the group well and get along with them but, after the first meeting they are all so sweet!

Get Aggressive – Aggressive Testimonials Radio Bumper

For one of my audio assignments, I made a bumper for my group’s radio show. Aggressive Testimonials is still in development, but currently it is “a tell-all about this company’s intrusive tech, featuring 2 “neutral” employees.” I am very excited to see what it becomes and I think this radio introduction is very funny.

I was more creative in this bumper than I was with the commercial. There are several layers of audio; the AI-generated voice (meant to mimic the host of the show); a slight static noise to create a robotic effect; news music to give it a professional, muckraker feel; and a robot noise at the end to make it more ominous and to reenforce the technological themes. I did edit it in iMovie again, but nonetheless I am very happy with how it turned out.

Do I Even Know What Trivial Pursuit Is?

For one of my audio assignments, I made a fake commercial for a video game version Trivial Pursuit, but a fictional version where it actively teaches you things. I used TTS Maker for the voices and the background music from FreeSound.

My methods for making this were a little unorthodox. Because I still don’t understand Audacity and I was in no mood to relearn, I ended up editing this on iMovie. While the setup was not as professional as Audacity, the process was quick and I was able to do more since I already knew how to use it. Overall I think taking the easy way out was the better choice here.

Also, because I feel the need to explain myself, I chose Trivial Pursuit at random. I wanted to make a game ad for a preexisting game that I could edit.

Ravioli Radio Progress…

For this week, we had to create groups and Im glad I joined the group I have now. We all have communicated and started to have an outline for the show and started to create content for our show. We all have helped and gave tips to each other on how we better our work for our show. We all brainstormed and combined our ideas with each other so we all equally have an idea in. We also started to discussed how the show is going to be outlined and which character is going talk and discuss with the host Dr. Ravioli. In the next few days we are going to call/zoom meet to further our progress for the show. I love this group, they are so supported and compassion about this project which motivates me to also be more compassionate about our work for this show.

Week of 3/18

Busy, Busy, Busy week! This week was really nerve-wracking. The project seems like a huge task to tackle but the group that I am in is making it less nerve-wracking. While I am nervous about all the work that has to get done, I feel as though I have made a lot of progress and the group has too. Below are the assignments from this week along with by problems and triumphs and my daily creates. I am excited to see the progress that we make next week (Hopefully in a timely matter so I can enjoy my birthday on March 30th). I am confident that what ever we create will turn out fine! Some of the post below wont have a caption because most or all of the behind the creation is displayed in the embedded link!

Assignments:

Behind the creation: For my second radio project I wanted to create an ad relating to Aggressive technologies as a a connection to the world the AI characters live in. I feel like it ties everything together with Marie’s story and shows that the movement is catching fire. For this, I used an AI male voice from Narakeet.com and a sad audio clip to keep it simple. I tried to create a commercial that created the same feelings as an SPCA commercial that evoked some type of emotion. I think this will be a great commercial to tie into our podcast. I had a problem spacing out the AI voice but it ended up working out ok. There is still room for improvement though!
Behind the creation: For the group project we were all tasked with creating a radio bumper so that we could pick the best 3 from the group and use it in our final podcast. I decided to create a pretty simple pop-style radio bumper with only three unlicensed sounds from freesound.com and my voiceover. I feel like the pop-style theme of the radio bumper goes along with our theme (Ai in pop culture) as well as the name. This took me about 30 minutes to start and finish to create and the only problem that I ran into was relearning how to cut and separate the audio clips in audacity. To combat this problem I simply cut and pasted to make everything go seamlessly. (Honestly, this course has me wanting to retake it over the summer so I have more time to focus on the tasks without my lab course loads.)
Behind the creation: This week we came up with a name and solidified what we are doing for the project but nothing else about the podcast itself yet. Instead of putting everyone’s names because two of the characters have the same name, I opted to say diverse panel. I found this template on canva for free and edited it to my liking. I found out that it is hard to find a font that pops against certain backgrounds. I feel like this is a great promotion for the radio show!

Daily Create 3/21

I remember in high school reading about endangered language poetry in my IB class. I chose a similar poem to one that I read in class from a native of Chile and posted it.

Endangered Poem

by Andrew Johnson

“Nature’s Embrace” (Hawaiian Language)

E ka nahele malu ‘ā’ī, (O’ gentle forest embrace,)

Kuahiwi kaulana mai kahiko. (Ancient mountains draped in green.)

Nā pua’a onaoni lei kapu, (Jeweled flowers adorning sacred bowers,)

‘Ike ‘ia i nā ‘īlio hone malu. (Witnessed by calm, meandering streams.)

E ka makani Kāhili mai’ele’ele, (The twilight Kāhili breezes caressing,)

Nā lālā ‘ōlena me ka ‘ilinalā. (Swaying fronds of ‘ōlena and ‘ilinalā.)

Loko’ino na ‘amakihi leo ke, (The merry ‘amakihi chorus rejoices,)

Aloha i nā hō’ailona makahiki hou.  (Celebrating nature’s rebirth anew.)

Ua hana ‘ia kākou i ka lepo ‘āina, (We are crafted from this earth’s soil,)

A i ho’okō hou ‘ia i ka hā’ilio honua. (Imbued again with nature’s vital breath.)

E mālama ‘oe i ka’u honua malu, (Cherish, o’ cherish this verdant realm,)

Ka pulehulehu kahikikū ho’ohiwahiwa. (The timeless, priceless, natural jewel.)

Endangered Language Poetry

For today’s daily create I am showing an endangered language poem. The poem I have chosen is Lumic Lament. I chose this poem because it is it really goes into depth about the resilience of endangered languages and the efforts to preserve them against the passage of time. Hope you enjoy!

Lumic Lament

In the whispers of the ancient trees, Where shadows dance in silent breeze, Lumic tongues once sang with glee, Now fade into eternity.

Upon the hills, where echoes weep, And memories in darkness sleep, Our words, like petals, fall and wilt, As time’s cruel hand our voices stilt.

With each passing day, a verse is lost, A treasure buried ‘neath frost, Our heritage, a fragile flame, Flickers faint, forgotten name.

Yet in the heart of the night, When stars ignite their guiding light, We raise our voices, soft and low, To reclaim the words we used to know.

For though the world may turn away, And silence veils the light of day, In the depths of our souls, the language thrives, A beacon of hope, where memory survives.

So let us weave our stories bold, In Lumic tales, both young and old, And with each word, let defiance rise, Against the fate that silence tries.

For in our language, we find our truth, Our bond to ancestors, ageless youth, And though the path ahead may seem unclear, Our voices echo, strong and near.

In the whispers of the ancient trees, Our Lumic song shall forever seize, A testament to resilience, strong and true, In the heart of every word we renew.

Daily crate 3/19 & 3/21

The first daily crate is a image of what I think agent 106 looks like.

Agent 106 on his day off

The next daily crate is for an endangered poetry. I went with poetry language that’s all about Bobba tea.

Radioshowweek1

For the assignments this week it was all about coordinating within our groups how we are planning and formatting the show. I think my group is making really good progress and we are getting into the swing of things after a group text was created as our primary means of communication. We all agreed on the name of the show and finalized the overall theme of what we will be discussing which is AI movies and giving reviews on them as well as going over media perceptions about AI. I am excited to continue working within my group to create something that I think is going to be pretty cool! I also found it funny that my course character has a “twin”!
