Week of 3.25- CUT THE TAPES!

First spring semester, and I have now learned what spring slump is. One of the biggest challenges this week was overcoming the spring slump. In brighter news the radio project is coming to an end. While I loved working with Tubba, Jacob, Latifiah, and Reece the assignment load has seemed very tiring the last couple of weeks. Below are the links to the two daily creates I did, as well as an update post, and eventually the finished Project! Also I’m turning 19 on Tomorrow, So happy early birthday to me!!

One challenge that I ran into this week was the INTERNET. The wifi in the dorms has been cutting in and out so bad it is delaying all the work I could have easily gotten done earlier in the week. I don’t really have the luxury of working anywhere else because I get easily distracted but I am hopeful they will correct the problem soon… right? Also I noticed that my mac book records audios in different octaves sometimes so if you are listening to my section in the final project please ignore it!!! I tried to correct the problem within audacity but we’ll see.

I also helped out this week by editing everything together. If I am being honest I didn’t want to but It had to be done. Against my prior attitude about editing the show together, I enjoyed it. I took bits and pieces of everyone’s work and made it something to be proud of! While the last two weeks have been a headache, I enjoyed the process of working with others.

As always everything from this week is below.

Assignments:

Daily creates (We had two this week)

In order to capture the intensity of the photo, I chose to put a dark red filter on him!
This daily create wouldn’t post on Mastodon until 3.27 because of the internet. So, I managed to get it posted a little later and posted it.

Daily Creates

This week we were asked to complete two daily creates. I completed the first one which was to design a smart watch that can track something a normal smart watch cannot. I chose to create a watch that can track when you are best fit to have a very restful nap depending on your body.

The second one I completed was to change a letter in a book and I chose the book Good Night Moon. I changed it to Good Night Loon. I used Adobe photoshop for this and it was really cool to experiment with the app.

Completed Radio Show Progress

This week my group and I worked together to finish recording and script making. We all contributed to make this project the best it can be. We all made a ton of commercials using a multitude of different tools. I used Speechify to make most of the audio for my commercials and edited and added music using audacity. We all agreed to have all of our dialogue recorded by Tuesday and we all met that goal. This project has been going super smoothly even though we found out today that it was a couple minutes short of thirty minutes. We all came together to add more dialogue and commercials to fill in the extra space and I think it has come out super well. Dr. Ravioli has a lot of air time which I am not upset about, I absolutely love his character and I am happy to know that he has a very big fan base. This Project has been super fun and I will be sad when it it officially finished but I know it is going to be amazing.

Radio Show Week 2

Tuesday

We got quite organized in week one. I thought we had planned for different people to put the different sections together and then one person takes the sections and make it all one. I had volunteered for the final edit and put the sections together. I did not explain well enough the idea and I was left to put it all together. (I realized this before Tuesday) I do not mind really. I think my character had the least number of lines to record. She isn’t chatty like the other characters. I had a vision any way and I think the most time. The group was supper prompt about meeting the recording deadline (Tuesday) and getting everything recorded and put on Sound Cloud. They have really been a joy to work with. We just all didn’t click the enable download button. Yes, that included me. I went and fixed mine and then sent out directions in the group chat. So here is hoping that it is fixed soon. I am probably losing a day to work on this project waiting for everyone to fix the download mistake. I hadn’t finished typing and the problem was being corrected. Really a great group.

Wednesday I spent putting the majority of A, B, and C together.

Well, I intended to get back to writing out the rest of the week but didn’t. I chatted with the group some more on Discord and we divided the editing duties up. I did A, B and C and other group members did the others. On Friday Morning I put the show together and saw we were short time by about 10 mins. We needed more dialog. So Laday Alice got more insulting, and Sol found more words to say. Summers made more commercials to add to the breaks. I think we pulled it together really well. We all have different class and work schedules but managed to find time to communicate and put something really nice together. I would totally do a group project with them again. I know I had a lot of fun editing the dialog and adding the sounds of the audience. I hope people like it as much as I loved putting my parts together.

Week 10 Daily Creates

Only two TDCs this week!

On Thursday, 3/28, the prompt was:

“Change a Letter, Ruin a Book – some ideas here

So, I opened FireAlpaca (my digital art program!) to patch together The Great Batbsy, a Batman adaptation of The Great Gatsby

This was fun to make!! I had to fiddle a little but I mostly just copied the B in Gatbsy and replaced the G with it, and then fixed the background. I allowed it to be a little messy, because I didn’t want to take a while on it, but it was fun. I also added little bat wings to the sides!

This was fun!! I liked it a lot. I have no idea what a Batman adaptation of The Great Gatsby would look like, and honestly, I’m afraid to see that.

On Friday, 3/29, the prompt was,

What is your least favourite household chore? What is a game you do, or might, pair with the chore to survive the daily grind? E.g. my least favourite chore is washing cutlery (yes, I might get a dishwasher someday), I pair this with a game of pickup sticks.

So, I thought for a while, because I couldn’t really think of anything. Usually, I just suffer through the chores and deal with it, but I did think of something! In my post, I said,

“Folding clothes is sometimes the most miserable thing to do ever . . . so sometimes I decide to see how small I can fold them!! which, I guess makes it take longer, but it makes it a little less miserable”

Which is true!! I do do this!! There’s not a lot to say about it, just that I fold them as teeny tiny as I can. And then unfold them because making them tiny doesn’t help me at all. And then refold them like a normal person.

And double my time doing it all, but at least I had a little fun

That’s it! Not much else to say!

AT Drops the BOMB!

Jim and I were having one of our usual ds106 discussions last week, looking over Aggressive Technologies’ website, when their chief legal counsel dropped in with threats and bluster. She expressed some rather strong opinions. I went through and cleaned them up a little for the recording above, although my bleeping skills leave something to be desired.

This is certainly concerning. The whole episode left me a bit speechless. I asked Dr. Oblivion for his advice:

He further opined:

We’ve dealt with issues before in ds106. We’ve been hacked. We’ve had moles. We’ve dealt with the Russians. And the zombies. But this feels different. And it raises some questions.

What does ds106 think? Do we blow off their threats? Or take them head on?
Do they really have eyes and ears within ds106?
Do we have a mole? And if so, what should we do about it?
Is her concern really “fiduciary duty?” Or do they have something to hide, and their threats are really just to scare us off their trail?
What are they up to? How should we respond?

The main thing I took from her visit was:

Aggressive Technologies loves ds106

How’s that for a fun little GIF?

Daily Creates… Oh Right…

I almost forgot to do these this week. I did one on Sunday and forgot to do the other until Thursday. So without further ado:

The first one I did was called splatter the ink. It was a neat online art tool where you could mess with sliders and colors to come up with something cool. I made my art and called it Spore.

Th next one was called, change a word, ruin a book. I decided to take all the seriousness out of the shining and make it the whining. I just imagine Jack complaining about taking the caretaker job and just being like the whiniest person. Changes the whole tone of the book.

So overall a neat week for these. I wish I would have looked at the other ones and not been forced to do either the Thursday or Friday one. But I’m still satisfied with what I did.

The Show Must Go On

As I said last week, my group has a group google doc where we write our ideas and take notes. We also have a group discord to post pictures and smaller ideas, and we have had a few discussions and even have a txt group to make sure we are all engaging with the project. As stated before, it is working magnificently.

This week was the week where we did the most work. We all worked together on the script in our google doc and I think we came up with some great ideas. We all put our bumpers and commercials etc. in the discord so we could ensure the transitions were tight. We did the same thing with all of our audio pieces. The interesting part about our narrative is that a few of the characters do not want their actual voices heard so we have generative AI speaking their parts. Interestingly, my character is using his own voice, so it is neat to hear that only his is conveying real emotion and it plays nicely into the character discovery piece.

Robin is going to splice it all together tonight and provide the final product for the sound cloud. I am excited to hear what it is like all together. I know it will probably sound a little strange, but I think that plays nicely into the narrative and the theme of AI.

Daily Create Roundup: Week 10

Here are my daily creates for this week!

This first one was an image I found for what I thought would be a cool concept for a bicycle. Though, now that I think back on it, this would be classified more as a flying car rather than a bike. All of the extra zero gravity would make it a hard sell for being just a bike.

The other one was a splatter art painting using this website. I played around with the number, splat size, and wobble to create a one of a kind design.

daily creates week ten!

hello! My favorite…..Daily creates! I did the Design Weird Veggies and Idealized Data Gatherer. I don’t even know what I did with the veggies, I got limes and grapes picture and put an image of veggies over it and blended. then for my data gatherer I made all those lines and shapes on a top hat! I think this is secretly Ab Lincoln’s hat lowkey. I think these were really fun to do and use photoshop more!

I hope everyone has a good day and had a good week!
