Thoughts on Tech Noir/Cyber Punk

Tech Noir and Cyber Punk intrigued me because I had never heard of those genres. I’ve heard of some content that falls into those genres but haven’t heard those terms before. On top of being unfamiliar with the names of the genre, I have seen very, very few Tech Noir/Cyber Punk shows, movies, video games, etc. That being said, from what I read, the content sounds interesting, and after watching an episode of Black Mirror, I am definitely open to learning more. I liked reading the Wikipedia article on Cyber Punk, which explained the mood and the setting of Cyber Punk. The way they talked about their location and wanting to emulate “Hong Kong on a bad day” was a great way to describe the setting and gave me a good visualization. Learning about how the term Cyber Punk was coined was also interesting. The name perfectly fits the vibe of the genre. After the readings, I chose to watch Black Mirror from the list of TechNoir/Cyberpunk Media. I’ve always wanted to check it out, and I chose the episode “Joan is Awful” because one of my favorite actresses, Annie Murphy, played the protagonist. I was immediately hooked. I found the episode’s concept so interesting, and how it played out was captivating! When I finished the episode, I immediately recommended it to my friends. Now, I am immensely interested in the genre, and I plan on watching more content in the category!

Goals For This Course

I have always found digital mediums fun to learn more about and practice. Therefore, I feel like I have a little bit of information on a lot of software. However, I would like to expand that knowledge and be able to get good enough at it that I can add the skill to my resume. I would like to be ahead of the game, skill-wise, when I go out into the world looking for a job. Another thing I’m hopeful about is that if I am able to learn and pick up new skills from this class, then it will be easier for me to learn how to use digital software that aren’t in this class. Lastly, because this class’s workload seems out of my comfort zone, I’m hoping it will whip my time management into shape. Currently my ability to manage my time isn’t terrible, it could be worse, but it could definitely be better. Overall, I want to better myself as a CDS student, and I’m excited to see if I will achieve my goals or if they will change!

Goals ds106

When taking ds106 this semester, I’m looking to accomplish the Gen ed requirement as well as also learning and gaining an understanding of the creative process and what goes into creating digitally.

Final Video Assignment + Weekly Summary

This class has been very fun. I have enjoyed being able to do research into the digital world. Going to the Digital Knowledge Center has been fun to do to learn more about the digital world. I will look to continue learning more as I feel there is still so much to learn. I liked how we we able to do an assignment like this as I was able to get more creative opposed to a boring test.

Weekly Summary: (Week 14) + Video Project

For this week our main goal was finishing this video project. It was great to work with Andrew Poon and Andrew Johnson. Collaborating with Jonathan and Leo Storm once again was amazing. I think they are a great addition to Himothy. After working on the radio show with these partners I thought it would be nice to run it back with them because we worked so well together. I am excited to hear what everyone thinks about our video. For this assignment we used the voiceovers on iMovie. Since we are not able to work on iMovie on multiple computers, we just used Andrew Johnson’s computer. We ran into some issues during this assignment due to the audio. There was multiple overlapping with the audio’s as well as lost audio. We had to do multiple retakes when doing this. Another issue I ran into was uploading this video to my computer. Due to the file being so large, I will link Andrew Poon’s assignment where the video is linked.

Week 14 Summary & Video Project

In the end it was great working with these partners. We worked through our issues in a timely manner through our busy schedules to get this project done.

Weekly Summary: (Week 13)

This week I have been very stressed in my other classes and having some sort of break from completing work in this class was awesome. As much as I love DS106, a break from the assignments helped a lot. I was able to catch up on a lot of work in other classes. However I still took a dive into planning this final project.

I was able to talk to Andrew Poon and Andrew Johnson about our assignment. We decided it would be best to work together as our radio show was certainly a hit, we might as well run it back! I am really excited to see what we have in store for this final project.

After doing some brainstorming we have come up with a few different ideas. We have not fully decided what we are going to do but aggressive technologies or including our course character would fit well, however we were thinking to branch off into something different and becoming more creative with this final project.

Stay tuned for our final project because it is going to be a good one.

Weekly Summary: (Week 12)

I thoroughly enjoyed working on the video project for the past two weeks. I thought it was awesome how I could collaborate with Andrew Poon’s course character, Leo Storm. My course character Himothy and Leo had a great day together. It is a must watch.

I have already started watching some of my classmates videos and they are very good. I am excited to watch more in the coming days.

The daily creates were very fun. I think many people will enjoy looking at the works I created for this weeks daily creates.

Daily Create 4/12/24

I think this is probably what Eleanor Roosevelt was writing on her Post-it Note before saying this famous quote. I think this is a very inspirational quote as it allows people to get out of their comfort zone.

Video Project

This project was awesome as I was able to be very creative and make a story for the day in the life of our AI characters, Himothy and Leo Storm. Andrew Poon and I worked together on this assignment. We used Audacity to make the audio clip and imported it into iMovie. We added the titles and pictures into the video as a visual for our viewers.

I think it was nice to work with a partner and have the ability to collaborate with someone during our regular day in the life. Of course our AI characters were extremely busy at work, however they still had some time to hang out and spend some time together, as they are roommates.

Daily Create 4/11/24

The internet is one of the scariest places to be. Especially if you do not know what you are doing. With social media nowadays there are many creepy people hiding behind their screen due to the anonymity of the internet. As everyone should know, you should never put any personal information on the internet as it is there forever.
