1st is the Worst, 2nd is the Best – Radio Progress Week 2

Our group was working too well, we had to hit a bump somewhere.

My group, which consists of me, Liv, Martina, Macie, and Kristen, had a really strong start to the week. We met on Monday afternoon to start working on our script. We already had some ideas from the last time we met, so at that point it was a matter of organizing ideas and putting them in the script. We also realized we didn’t have an outro so we determined that we would use the end of our intro as a short outro. In our radio show, there are 4 questions and 4 long answers with people chiming in. Each person except Liv was tasked with writing a question, and each person except Macie was tasked with coming up with a response. I left the meeting feeling good about our show and recording it.

Wednesday came around, and we all showed up to the DKC podcast studio to record. Recording went great, we had almost no trouble setting everything up or saying our lines, and we all left the studio confident with our product. That was until, tragedy struck… Martina texted us saying that the audio files were corrupted and they didn’t save properly. It was such a disappointment because, like I said, it was a successful take. However, we didn’t dwell on the disappointment for too long and instead went into problem solving mode. We figured out a time that works the best for everyone and settled on 4. Not the most ideal time because Macie had to leave by 4:30 and Liv had to leave at 5 to go out of town, but the studio was reserved before that so we had to make do.

In the mean time, that Wednesday Night, I fixed the audio in my ad. I received a note saying to turn up the background music and I agreed with the critique. I went into Adobe Audition and messed with the volume for each track. Here is the final result.

The next thing I worked on was crafting the outro. This was a really simple process because I already had that line singled out when I was making the intro. All I had to do was create a new project on Adobe Audition and cut the clip in the right parts. Here is the finished outro.

When Thursday rolled around we headed to the podcast studio again to record. This time we had a better idea of what we were doing and how the podcast was going to work, but I think that we lost some of the authenticity that came with running through it the first time. However, I believe that there is no point in comparing the two versions since we can’t get the first one back. The new one is still good and that’s all that matters. Martina edited together everything, and she did a great job especially with the limited time we had. You can listen to our finished show here!

I feel very fortunate to have lucked out with my group. I was nervous that I would end up in a nightmare group, but instead it was the opposite. Everyone worked hard on their assignments and I think our show came out so good! I even found out I have an in person class with Macie which was a surprise! So, thank you Liv, Martina, Kristen, and Macie for a great experience!

Radio show update part 2!

It’s been kind of a crazy process but, the fearless femmes have made great progress on our radio show. On Monday we met up again to brainstorm storylines and script ideas for our show. We wanted to have guidelines to go off of for when we record our show so it can go as smooth as possible.

Together we successfully brainstormed topics to talk about during our show and solidified which bumpers and commercials we planned to use. We also picked which poster we wanted for our show, which was hard because we all made very creative and clever banners.

This is where the process got a bit funky. We made our appointment to record at the DKC for Wednesday afternoon. We all successfully met together and recorded a great radio show but, unfortunately you’ll never hear it.

Since we recorded our whole podcast in one 40 minute take, it unfortunately caused our recording to crash and not successfully save. Thankfully all the fearless femmes were free Thursday afternoon to rerecord.

We weren’t to rattled over the incident instead we just took it as a practice round and created an even better show in my opinion. The only difference we made this time was we saved the show into smaller 5-10 minute takes.

Before we left the recording studio we made sure to wait until all of our recordings were successfully saved to Coni and Martina’s computers.

We are now in the editing and perfecting process to get the podcast turned in by the end of the day Friday.

Overall even with a couple of hiccups i’m very proud of our group for working hard and staying on top of everything with each other. At first we were a bit nervous while recording because we wanted to perfect things, but as we went on we all became very comfortable and the conversation flowed well.

I’m very excited to hear our finished show and also to listen to everyone else’s show.

Sincerely, Kristen

Radio Show Progress Week 2

Week 2 here we go! So far, my group has been communicating so well! We had another Zoom meeting on Monday, where we planned out the script, as well as who will be speaking during what segments of the show. We also planned out where we would place each commercial, radio bumper, and the intermission in order to make sure that the show sounded cohesive.

We booked an appointment with the DKC to do a recording in their podcast studio on Wednesday. the recording went great, and we all did pretty well in terms of sticking to the script, but also improving some pieces too. But, disaster struck… the audio didn’t save! Our whole recording was gone, but we immediately regrouped and came up with Plan B. We booked another recording session for Thursday, and will do it all over again. It sucks, but everything happens for a reason!

Overall, I loved my group, and I loved the show that we came up with. We were all able to express our creativity and put our ideas together in order to come up with a great show! So shout out to Macie, Kristen, Martina, and Coni, you guys are the best!

Aggressive Progress – Radio Show Week 2

This week, my group finished development and produced our final radio show! I would like to take this moment to issue a formal apology to Feli, who edited our show together. It was a really busy week and I was not as punctual as I should have been about recording my part. Thank you to my group for being patient.

Our final product is really fun. Our radio show leans into the cultishness of Aggressive Technologies, as well as Georgia and Andrea’s unwavering support of said cultishness. Our product is very entertaining and I hope you enjoy!

Week 2 Radio Show Progress

I decided to wait till after I completed my radio show to write this progress blog. The reason I did that was I wanted to blog about my whole experience with the project. I also wanted to focus on getting it completed and turned in on time. Now let’s get into my experience of this project. For starters working with my group was a pleasure, everyone did their part, and everyone communicated with one another. We had no conflicts with each other and worked diligently to complete our project in a timely manner. Looking at the radio show itself; we used Audacity to record our whole show. We had no issues with the application. We uploaded all of our different radio bumpers, intros, outros, and commercials to Audacity. From there it was a matter of just editing the recording session to blend all the different elements of radio show into one unison recording. I will admit the only thing our group struggled with was recording what we were going to say. We had to restart many times because we messed up our lines. This made me realize how hard it is to record radio shows or any type of audio and the process that goes into it to make it perfect. Other than that, I would say our radio show was a success. I can’t wait for you guys to hear it; I think you’ll enjoy it.

Radio Show Progress

I am very proud of how our final radio show turned out and I am glad my group went the route we did when creating the show.

Originally, we were going to set aside time this week to record the interview segments as a group. We realized this would be too difficult with the use of voice changers, so we agreed to write all of our parts in a shared document and then record separately. While I realized that this would be easier on the recording end, I thought that the end result may end up being really awkward and clunky. I am happy to say that the final result flowed fairly naturally.

In terms of script writing, I think my part was fairly easy because as the host most of my lines are filler transitions. All in all it really didn’t take much to write and record all of my parts. I sent all of my clips to Robin who was in charge of editing.

Here is the final result: https://soundcloud.com/robin-yu-527647770/logic-pod-the-tech-podium?si=ffb306d35c5e4718adbf8eca5a39fb5b&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing

Radio Show Week 2

We have completed our radio show! This week we finalized the script and format of the show and each recorded our parts. We added our commercials radio bumpers into the final project as the finishing touches.

This was a smooth process thanks to my wonderful groupmates, Feli Badji and Sydney Krug. I’m proud of the final project and would love to hear y’alls thoughts if you can give it a listen.

the little radio show that could

The radio show is finally complete! This week was where all the actual work past the easy planning and writing started. Before anything else could get done we needed a script. We had laid out our show idea and some general question ideas down but we needed to solidify the actual concept. So I made an outline for our script laying a general idea of what questions had to be asked and our dodgy responses that incorporated just enough deception for maximum cult manipulation.

After that was done I used Elevenlabs to record my dialogue using the voice I made for my character a while ago. I then choose some radio show sound essentials you can find here: Haunted Atmo, 3 tone chime, Censor BEEP, Back To Your Regularly Scheduled Program.

Like I said on my last radio show update, I chose to use DaVinci Resolve to do my editing. So once the sounds were chosen and the audio recorded I started compiling them all into one project. There was a fair bit of audio editing I did to try to normalize the audio levels and fix any background noises. And while it is definitely not as good as it would be if we were able to record all together in a podcast studio, I made the best of what we had. So after tweaking the EQ, dynamics, background removal, cutting some of the speaking errors in the audio, and smoothing out the jumps between different cuts, the podcast was done!

I also used the podcast design I made last week for the image on SoundCloud where you can all now listen to Düşünür trying to catch Georgia and Andrea lying about the Aggressive Tech’s intentions.

10 Weeks in a Row

This week was a wind whirl! There were so many moving parts and my group and I got everything finished by Wednesday! To me that is a record because I make sure everything is perfect before turning it in.

I will start by saying that working in a group was not for me. However, we did complete the Radio Show which you can listen to down below!

If you want to read how the two weeks went during this process you can click here

I also created a new bumper for the radio show and you can read about my journey creating the bumper that is in the radio show!

Next, we had to do two daily creates for this week. Which again is super fun and not really time consuming.

In total, the work load this week was light…on my end of things. I wish that this week could have gone differently but I am ready to move on. I hope next week will be enjoyable. Till next week.
