Days of Radio and Reviews

The radio show I chose to listen to was Days of Crime and Roses. I thought they did a great job and it was such a fun listen. I think doing a crime podcast in a TechNoir world is a really interesting idea. It helped establish the world that they are in without explicitly telling us. I also like the idea that even as our world continues to evolve and technology advances, one thing stays true: people love True Crime Podcasts. My favorite part of the podcast was their theme song that played throughout the episode, it was very silly and it had a catchy tune. They did a great job on the whole project!

Listening to my podcast was fun. My group members and I worked hard on it and it came out really good. My favorite part of our show was our intro and the ads, but I also think the whole show was strong. I like that our show had a mix of scripting and improvising, I think it made our show seem more natural.

Radio Show Review

Listening to my own radio show was a struggle, but I was able to get through it! It sounded really good, but having to listen to my own voice makes me cringe. But, it was still so fun to our finished product, and I felt like an artist admiring their work.

Now, for listening to another group’s radio show. I listened to the DS106 radio, which was Emily H., Sam H., Maddie M., and Brigid W.’s. I thought there show was really good. It flowed so well between the segments and the transitions fit in. The radio bumpers and commercials were super cool, and I liked the intro as it truly felt like I was tuning into a real radio show. The topics were relevant to the theme of cyberpunk/tech-noir, while also relating to real-world issues. My one critique is that sometimes the volume was too low or too high throughout, so I had to turn down or turn up the volume at certain points to hear. But, other than that it was pretty much perfect! I had a lot of fun listening to it!

Let the games begin!

This week i had the opportunity to listen to the broadcast of Noir Games. This was a radio show done by Tyler Flowers, Nairah Killiebrew, Antonio Lewis, and Azrael Fanning. I really liked this idea of a radio show of trivia. I also really liked the surprise of hearing Dr. Oblivion and I also really liked the use of the AI voice for the characters. I think that this group did a great job with the sound aspect of this project. I really liked all of the game show sounds that were added and I think that really helped get in the world of the show. One thing I had noticed, however, is the mixing levels. Some sound effects would be louder than others, though this wasnt a hug issue it was something I noticed. I also heard some longer pauses in the voices towards the end of the show which was interesting in the following of the story. Overall, this was a very entertaining show to listen to!

In terms of hearing my own show broadcasted, it was definitely interesting. I don’t normally like hearing my own voice so editing was a challenge but only I could hear my voice when editing. This time I was hearing my voice AND others were listening to it. So once I got over that I was feeling very proud of the finished product!

Days of Crime and Roses

Let’s get into today’s case.

Days of Crime and Roses is a podcast that focuses on true crime stories, with multiple hosts sharing their experiences. The podcast creates a specific atmosphere through narration of the cases, like Lynn’s emotional connection to the missing persons in Montana creates an emotional resonance. Jasper’s dramatic storytelling about Grayson Cole and the “Rebirth Incident” captivates the audience with a cautionary tale. The consistent introduction and outro music contribute to branding and listener recognition. The variety in hosts’ approaches within “Days of Crime and Roses” suggests an awareness of appealing to a diverse audience.

Crime and roses had an interesting take that reminded me of the last time we listened to the Ds106 radio for a crime podcast. Super cute how they all said crime at the same time. Aside from that overall love how it came out. I couldn’t appreciate the extra sounds that, but I could hear the emotions in their voices as they told the stories. It’s nice to hear that they mentioned wanting to hear more background sounds too. I can image how much more immersive that would have felt rather than just an interesting listen. Still, it was enjoyable, and I can hear the Limestone inspiration.

Well, when it came to listening to my own show I really listened to all the mistakes that make me wanna pull my hair out and gag. Some of them were so bad I am shocked no one said anything ;-; wahhhhh. Anyway, overall, the same feeling I get when I hear my own voice. ew ew ew eweweweweweweweweweew. That’s how I feel.
