A fun and exciting week

I really enjoyed this week. It ended up being one of my favorites so far, which is surprising because I was initially nervous going into this week. Sometimes I get nervous for group projects because I don’t know what to expect, but it ended up being a great week.

This week I participated in my first podcast/radio show. I had a lot of fun recording with “The Fearless Femmes”. We had a couple bumps when trying to complete our show, but we still came out with a great finished project. In my weekly summary I talk all about our week in completing our radio show you can read below:

Our group worked together very well. For our show we decided to have a caller concept where listeners can call in and tell the fearless femmes about any current struggles they’re going through and get direct advice from us. We answered the questions from the calls from the standpoint of our characters, and called in as ourselves.

We took last week to brainstorm and create bumpers/intermissions/and commercials for our show. We also created promo posters and videos. This took a lot of the pressure off for this week so we only had to focus on recording and editing the show.

We came up with scripts for our show to have something to go off of. I think this was a good idea for us so we would have ideas to bounce off of to keep the conversation flowing. We ultimately met in the DKC and finished our recording Thursday afternoon and it was edited by the end of the night.

I’m so proud of the finished outcome for our show. For many of my group members including myself this was our first radio show recording. I think after having practice rounds we really warmed up to each other and had a steady flow which resulted in a great radio show outcome. Click below to listen to our show.

Since it was a pretty busy week with the radio show, I was glad that there were only 2 daily creates to complete this week. I completed my creates Tuesday and Thursday this week. Check them out below:

I’m so excited to listen to everyones radio shows. I really had a great time recording with the Fearless Femmes this week. I learned so much about recording and editing audio this week that I plan to continue to improve in the future.

Hope you enjoy!

Sincerely, Kristen

Easy Creates

This week I completed 2 daily creates. They were fairly quick and easy to complete. The first I completed the first on Tuesday. Using the app pix2pix I drew a cat and generated it into a more realistic version of the cat I drew. I thought this was a very fun create to complete. My cat came out looking like a cat from pet cemetery which wasn’t what I was going for, but ill take it.

The last create I completed this week was on Thursday. The prompt was to show something you love. I found a cute collage of animals on Pinterst and decided to include that for my post. I’ve always loved animals from a very young age. It doesn’t matter the kind or type I truly love all of them which is why I chose to include that in my post.

even though I only completed 2 easy daily creates I really enjoyed looking at everyone else’s creates throughout the week. See you next week!

Sincerely, Kristen

Radio show update part 2!

It’s been kind of a crazy process but, the fearless femmes have made great progress on our radio show. On Monday we met up again to brainstorm storylines and script ideas for our show. We wanted to have guidelines to go off of for when we record our show so it can go as smooth as possible.

Together we successfully brainstormed topics to talk about during our show and solidified which bumpers and commercials we planned to use. We also picked which poster we wanted for our show, which was hard because we all made very creative and clever banners.

This is where the process got a bit funky. We made our appointment to record at the DKC for Wednesday afternoon. We all successfully met together and recorded a great radio show but, unfortunately you’ll never hear it.

Since we recorded our whole podcast in one 40 minute take, it unfortunately caused our recording to crash and not successfully save. Thankfully all the fearless femmes were free Thursday afternoon to rerecord.

We weren’t to rattled over the incident instead we just took it as a practice round and created an even better show in my opinion. The only difference we made this time was we saved the show into smaller 5-10 minute takes.

Before we left the recording studio we made sure to wait until all of our recordings were successfully saved to Coni and Martina’s computers.

We are now in the editing and perfecting process to get the podcast turned in by the end of the day Friday.

Overall even with a couple of hiccups i’m very proud of our group for working hard and staying on top of everything with each other. At first we were a bit nervous while recording because we wanted to perfect things, but as we went on we all became very comfortable and the conversation flowed well.

I’m very excited to hear our finished show and also to listen to everyone else’s show.

Sincerely, Kristen

Getting Ready for the radio show

This week most of my time went to planning and perfecting things to put into our radio show.

After meeting with the group Monday my job was to create radio bumpers and intermissions. I have improved so much at using audacity to edit and sync audio together.

Starting with the intermission I created, I wanted to make a quick bumper that would catch the listeners attention. I envision this to come on after a commercial and right before the show starts back.

To captivate the listeners I wanted to use a glitchy/siren/static sound effect. I feel like this sound captivates people because it almost sounds like a warning message. This sound also goes with the theme of tech noir and cyber punk so I felt it fit very well.

I used Narakeet to transcribe my script into a cool sounding voice over. I used Freesound to find different glitchy/static sound effects that felt fitting to the show and synced them all together in audacity.

The hardest part with the intermission was lowering the volume of the sound effects so it wasn’t to overpowering. I’m still learning audacity so I had to watch a couple youtube videos to figure out how to lower the volume, but I really like the outcome of the intermission!

For the radio bumper, we agreed as a team that we wanted them to be upbeat and “pop” like, while still being tech noir aesthetic.

I decided to make the background music a little bit more “pop” and upbeat and then for the voice over it sounds a bit more glitchy to connect it with the tech noir side.

I really liked the way this bumper came out. I think it’s kind of catchy which I think is important for radio bumpers.

I used the same tools to create the bumper as I did for the intermission which were, Audacity for editing and syncing, Narakeet for transcribing a script into a voiceover, and Freesound for upbeat sound effects.

The most difficult task in this assignment was really just choosing which voice over I wanted. There are so many choices to choose from on Narakeet, so i listened to multiple voices over and over to see which would fit best in the bumper. Picking my background sound first helped me pick the voice over because I had an idea of what I was going for at this point.

The Promo videoI created was probably the easiest out of all the assignments. I created it on Canva which is probably why it was so easy for me. I’ve become very familiar and comfortable with Canva so, it doesn’t take me too long to get the outcome I want.

The idea behind the promo video I made was that we could use it as promotion on our social media accounts. So I wanted it to have cool captivating graphics, catchy background music, but also short and straight to the point.

I really liked adding all of our group members course character social media accounts at the end. I thought it was a clever way to let the class know which course characters are in this radio show.

The Fearless Femmes have made so much progress on our radio show. We’ve been staying in touch through our group chat and updating each other in our shared google doc on the work we’ve completed. I think our show is gonna turn out super cool and i’m excited to see the outcome. We still have a little bit too finish before we start recording like the outro and solidifying our topics of discussion.

I completed 3 daily creates this week Tuesday – Thursday. I’m really enjoying the creativity of the prompts and I love seeing what everyone else does for their creates. You can check out mine here:

Overall I think it’s been a very successful week in preparing for next weeks radio show. I used my time wisely by using the 2 audio assignments as a way to get started on creating content for our show and I think it worked out great! I’ve never recorded a podcast so I look forward to creating it next week. I’m also so excited to listen to everyone else’s podcasts!

Sincerely, Kristen

Radio Show Progress

My group “The Fearless Femmes” had a lot of progress this week. We met Monday night to get to know each other and our characters as well as, solidify our team name, make an appointment with the DKC, and come up with topics for our radio show. We also evenly distributed amongst each other who should do commercials and who should do radio bumpers.

We’ve been communicating in our group chat almost everyday, to keep each other updated and asking for advice on our bumpers/commercials/and intermissions. We also made a google doc as a place we can all put our updated bumpers/intermissions/and commercials in.

So far we have an intro, lots of commercials to choose from, as well as lots of radio bumpers to choose from.

The only ting we really have left is an outro and to actually do the podcast.

I think we’re moving at a great pace and have plans to record early so we’re able to edit and get the podcast turned in on time.

Overall I think we’re working great as a team and i’m excited to see the results of our podcast!

Sincerely, Kristen

Thoughtful creates

This week I completed 3 daily creates. I getting so much better at not thinking too much on the daily creates and just having fun with them.

I really just look forward to seeing how everyone else interpreted the creates.

The first daily create I did was Tuesday this week. The prompt was to show a picture of confusion. I decided to show a picture of tangled jewelry. Not only is this one of the most annoying things to happen, but i’m always confused on how or when my jewelry got tangled in the first place. Then even more confusion starts when you attempt to untangle it.

The next create I completed was Wednesday. The prompt was to create a moccasin design. I’ve always loved moccasins. I like that almost all of them have a unique and intricate pattern or color scheme. I’m not the best artist especially when it comes to intricate designs so, I asked Gemini to “draw an intricate moccasin design with little color.” I wanted to see what it would come up with and this is what it was.

The final create of the week was to create a hidden message. I used to love creating these when I was a lot younger and seeing if my friends could figure out the code. I decided to make the code a lyric from one of my favorite songs “Breathin” by Ariana Grande”.

I hope you enjoy the daily creates this week. I loved seeing everyone else’s interpretations.

Sincerely, Kristen

Radio show Promo video

I decided to make a promo video that our radio show hosts would be able to post on social media.

I created this video on Canva. I love using Canvas fun options for templates. I still wanted the vibe to be tech noir themed of course so I used darker neon colors.

I’m very familiar with using Canva now so this wasn’t too hard to accomplish.

If you feel like you’ve heard the background music to the video, that’s because you have!

In one of my earlier projects I used the same audio to create my own game. I felt the audio was very fitting to the vibe and scheme of the poster so I decided to reuse it.

Adding audio is a must, I feel like it always captivates an audience especially if it’s a catchy song. We as a group may decide to edit insert a group members radio bumper instead, both ways I think would look and sound great!

The thought of adding all of our course members “social media platforms” was mainly just a clever way introduce what class characters our radio show will be including.

I hope you like the promo video, Click here to watch:

Fearless Femmes Radio Bumper

Part of my contribution to “The Fearless Femmes” radio show is to create a bumper.

Similarly to the intermission I created for the show, I wanted to give it that mysterious vibe with a glitchy static sound effect to give it the “tech noir”vibe. Though the sound bumper I created is a lot more upbeat the the intermission.

I used the same tools to create the bumper as I did for the intermission which were, Audacity for editing and syncing, Narakeet for transcribing a script into a voiceover, and Freesound for upbeat sound effects.

I hope you enjoy listening to the bumper, you may just hear it agian in our radio show.

Fearless Femmes Radio Intermission

I decided to do a radio bumper for my radio group “The Fearless Femmes”. This is a lifestyle call in show where we talk about all types of topics and listen to listeners stories and topics as well.

I wanted to make the intermission mysterious yet futuristic at the same time to fit the “tech noir” aesthetic.

I used the Audacity app, the online site Narakeet, and the site FreeSound to create this intermission bumper.

I used Narakeet to transcribe my script into a cool sounding voice over. I used Freesound to find different glitchy/static sound effects that felt fitting to the show and synced them all together in audacity.

I think I’ve improved a lot on syncing and editing in audacity since the last time we used the app in class.

I’m no sure if we will be using this intermission in our radio show, but regardless I think its great improvement from the last audio assignmennt.

Hope you enjoy listening.

Sincerely, Kristen

Week 8 creates

I really enjoyed this weeks daily creates. Although they didn’t consist of a lot of creativity I still really liked the prompts.

For Tuesdays create I decided to base the quotes off of one of my favorite Ariana Grande songs “breathin”. I thought this was a really cool activity you can check it out here!

I’m not a huge coffee drinker, but when I do get coffee I go for a caramel frappe with almond milk. Recently i’ve been ordering it a lot because it’s getting to the busy part of the semester and that unfortunately means staying up late or getting up super early to get work done.

Check out here to see what I named after myself!

The final create of the week was on “pi day”. I had a feeling the create would have something to do with pi/pie and I was right.

I decided to ask Gemini to create and AI generated pie. Check it out here!

I hope you enjoy the daily creates I uploaded. I still really look forward to seeing what everyone else uploads every week. I feel like my creativity is really getting better and it’s exciting to see.

see you next week..

Sincerely, Kristen
