Radio Show Ideas

Couple show ideas I could think of:

  • Radio show where a group of college students start a radio show together. They start making millions of dollars and then they try to steal the show from each other or sabotage each other on the show. Maybe they start making comments like “Hmm.. We all know someone who is selfish” and it gets quiet or awkward and then the chill one out of the group is like “Hey you guys shut up, we have a new song to share with the people, hahaa” and then a 20-30 second snippet of a beat/song plays. And so on and so on.
  • A lifestyle radio show where the group will talk about random topics as if they were the actual archetype characters. Topics like dating, eating healthy, or we have people “call in” and tell us about their crappy roommate and we all give them a piece of unsolicited advice. I know this sounds simple, but I think it could actually turn out to be really funny. Example, someone calls into the radio show and is like, “I have a question for Ms. Femme Fatale” and they ask a question about dating advice haha or someone else calls in and asks the Mastermind Bank Heister how he makes an honest living. Mainly the show will be for entertainment purposes and will intend to be sarcastic, humorous, and things like that.

Daily Creates Shenanigans

I made 3 daily creations this week. I also tried to up my commenting game and become more engaged with other through commenting and liking post.

My 3 DC posts:

Use Words to Draw a Body Part

Lips!! I made this on Canva. I chose a gradient back drop and then moved the words around to create the lips.

Strange Mini-Golf

I found this image on google. I couldn’t imagine playing mini-golf here!!

Anti spam poems

My response:

My antispam word was: hod quill. I’m really struggling to create a poem using these words. But this is what I came up with:

Kevin’s meandering mind moved homes.
His new home is online and named hod.
He moved because his last home “quill-ed” the vibe”

The end.

I did my best.

The End of the Daily Create Shenanigans haha!

Sapphria Mae’s Favorite Mashup

**Warning, music mashup below has explicit language**

I don’t own any of the rights to this music.

I would share this from sound cloud, but it won’t let me because I’ve used another artist’s songs, but I uploaded the mashup I created below.

The last creation I made this week was completing the P!NK’s Emotions Assignment. The inspiration behind this assignment is from my character Sapphria Mae. I wanted to use this opportunity to build her personality a little bit more through music.

P!nk is well known for being a rock-influenced pop singer with a distinctive powerful raspy voice. Sapphria Mae is intended to be a distinctive character and will use her voice powerfully, just in a different way. I feel like p!nk is also fearless in her own right and is absolutely stunning while rough around the edges, I mean this by saying P!nk doesn’t mind taking chances and going after what she wants. That is why I chose for Sapphria Mae to listen to music that will also resonate with her character; Fearless, breathtaking, edgy.

Another correlation on why Sapphria Mae listens to p!nk is because she can relate to her on an emotional level. P!nk doesn’t mind pushing boundaries or challenging authority through her music and image. Sapphria Mae’s character feels her emotions in the same way. Being told no won’t necessarily stop her from achieving her goals or going after something she wants. Sapphria also loves a good challenge and doesn’t mind challenging anyone.

I used Audacity to create this P!nk Mashup. These are the songs I chose with a brief description of why I chose these for Sapphria Mae:

  • Just Like a Pill (Escapism, vulnerability, facing frustrated fears, leaving and not knowing where she’s going, knowing how to set herself free)
  • Don’t Let Me Get Me (Self confliction, hazard to herself and she knows it, too powerful for her own good, she knows what she’s capable of)
  • F*ckin Perfect (embracing herself, perfection – Sapphria Mae is perfect, well she definitely thinks so and doesn’t care if anyone else thinks it)
  • So What (SO WHAT? – Confident, fierce, fearless)

Basically, Sapphria Mae didn’t choose this life – it chose her.

Hope you guys enjoyed the tunes and enjoyed diving deeper into my characters emotions and personality.

DS106 Radio Experience

I mean, WOW!! I had an amazing experience when tuning into the ds106 radio station last night. While listening to the radio, we also collectively had a discussion on discord about the material. It was impressive to pick and pull apart what we were actually listening to. I realized that sound, especially music, heavily impacts mood and atmosphere. Everything that I’ve been learning from this week’s material came to real life.

Also, I found out that I was the first one to publish a bumper for the radio station and my bumper was played on air!! It felt really good to hear my work on air and to have other people listen to it too.

The different types of sound effects that I heard that really impacted the mood, atmosphere, or setting were:

  • The different music that was played. Some music made the setting very suspenseful and thrilling. Nail biting, actually. Other types of music made the setting sound nostalgic, calming, or intuitive.
  • Sound effects like birds chirping, kids playing at a park, and traffic. I knew the characters were talking outside. I could tell when they moved spots at the park. Also, I know this isn’t really a “sound effect” but SILENCE!!! When there was no other sound when the characters talking, it felt intense at times and other times I could feel the characters getting a sense of comfortability with each other.

All in all, I had a great experience, and I can’t wait to tune in again soon.

How was that Tech-Noir?

prompt: Visualize telepathy in a noir setting with a cyborg cat as a disinterested bystander

That’s a question we could ask of Limetown. There is a mystery element to it, in the disappearance of a small town’s entire population. And there is the intrepid reporter acting as a bit of a detective and a bit of an innocent bystander swept up in forces beyond her control. These are noir tropes. Tech-noir typically has a futuristic setting though, whereas Limetown is an investigation of the past. One could also argue that tech-noir is of the past, in that Blade Runner‘s setting and The Terminator‘s Judgement Day are chronologically now in the rear view mirror. The tech element comes in with the telepathic technology that was under development in Limetown.

There is a back story to Limetown, hinted at along the way and confirmed in the finale – a story of corporate espionage. This is the part that really fascinated me – the idea of a shadowy corporation that could build Limetown and hide its purpose from everyone, then wipe out the population without a trace and just drive away. Although actually there were two shadowy corporations: one that built the experiment and one that bought off the principles and disappeared the subjects.

As the story went on, in the book and second season, it was all about the reporter. That disappointed me because I thought the back story had so many more possibilities, with moles and mercs and machinations. The implication is that there were other Limetowns, that the tech worked and continued to be developed, and presumably was in use somehow/somewhere. There is fertile ground there for fan fic. That kind of unbound corporate power is also part of tech-noir, and that’s where I see the connection.

What would the world look like if select people had an implant-enabled, brain-to-brain internet? What would people do with that kind of power? How would our noir archetypes act in such a scenario? It would be interesting to see what kind of stories we could build from these ideas, although I may be the only one interested.

A hubcap diamond star halo

The challenge for today’s Daily Create was to draw a T Rex. I considered attempting to sketch Marc Bolan, but liked the idea of a hubcap diamond star halo better. I also liked the vieo idea, so I found an image of a hubcap and one of a T Rex album cover and combined them in a PowerPoint animation with diamond and star shapes and exported it as a video. I recorded a snippet of their famous song and put that together with the video in iMovie. That was actually a bit of work to avoid actually drawing. Maybe I need to rethink my strategy.

ds106 radio bumper

I was really nervous about posting this. I haven’t always felt confident or comfortable in the way I sound in recordings, but I took my best shot at this assignment. This was also one of my goals when I first started this class; Was to become more comfortable with recording myself or creating audio content!

I had a lot of fun creating this bumper. It didn’t take me very long to come up with what I wanted to say. I recorded my bumper announcement on Audacity and started editing the audio track from there. I first began to listen to the different sound effects and generative tools. I found a couple sounds I liked and added them, then I organized them and put them where I wanted them to go after listening to the track a few times.

The only thing that I am uncertain about is the way the bass/drums sound in the back. So, I’d love to hear some feedback on that. I wanted the bumper to feel upbeat and alive! The other sound effects sounded techno and radio station-like to me so that’s why I chose those sounds. Although I’m not sure yet on how to add in music or other beats. I’m actually trying to play around with this now.

Thank you guys for listening to my DS106 radio bumper. I can’t wait to receive feedback on this 🙂

Do you see what I hear

We had our first night of collaborative listening on ds106radio tonight with a small but active group. We listened to the tale of Limetown, and heard voices and background music used to great effect. What I find more interesting though are the subtle noises, and just how much they let us visualize the scene, whether it’s day or night, or the size of the room the characters are in, or who’s on the other end of the phone.

We could also ask, What makes this tech noir? There is a mystery, the disappearance of the entire population of a small town, and powerful unknown forces behind it. The main character is an investigative journalist who seems to be getting caught up in a situation beyond her control. Not exactly an innocent bystander, but adjacent to the archetype. Thanks to @PreRandom and @ryee for joining in, and we hope to me more people join Tuesday evening.

Tech Noir Talk

I fed our tech noir cast of characters to the two annoying podcast hosts from Notebook LM so that they could discuss how groups of them might work together.

https://notebooklm.google.com/notebook/01615d4d-37f2-4789-9bb1-43374db0b787/audio

They spitball several ideas, none exceptionally creative, but maybe it can be used as a starting point. How do people in the class see their characters interacting? Is there an issue or a scenario around which they can connect?

Top of the Tech Noir: week 3

The good:
The votes are in, and here are the top posts of the past week in ds106:Tech Noir as selected by the class. Beyond the works themselves, what is impressive is the distribution of the votes:

  • 28 posts received votes
  • 2 got three votes
  • 3 got two votes

I will let the posts and voters speak for themselves, except to say that when a photoblitz starts with a disco ball, you know you’ve found a party.

The bad:
8 people shirked their civic responsibility and didn’t vote. Where is the love? That’s no way to be .

The lovely:

A Color Analysis of Tim Burton’s The Corpse Bride

I really enjoyed with post because I enjoy the coupes bride, the way this person describes it in much detail really helps people who have not seen it imagen the scenes in their head

I enjoyed how thorough this person did their analysis. It was very clear to me how much they love the film and how excited they were to analyze it, it made me excited to read their thoughts. I never thought of a film this way nor have I noticed the color shifts in this film. Overall, I think this person did a great job and its inspired me to do more assignments that make me feel excited about the work im doing rather that seeing it as just an assignment to turn in.

Finns Walk Home

I’ve kept up with this blog because its very well done, This was one of my favorite posts because it almost seems professionally done, the way the people with umbrellas are in a line with the comic book esthetic is perfect.

I like that this person made this comic like photo in the perspective of their character. I have not yet thought of making something in the perspective of my character and I think that is a really creative way of incorporating our characters into the assignment bank assignments!

He used a comic affect on a photo of New York and I thought it looked cool

New Game! – Your story as a game!

I think the animation is very cool and I like the contrast between the left and right.

I loved the way they edited there game screen. It looks really unique and I like the story behind it. I can tell they spent a lot of time on it.

Go Bills!

Honestly really liked how cohesive the graphic was and it felt like something the Bills social media team would post as a gameday poster. It also helps that I’m a huge football fan (Go Commanders) and that might have contributed some bias. It’s a great way to tie in digital media to other topics such as sports that aren’t always directly associated to digital media.

Although I am not a Bills fan (go birds) I was hoping the eagles would get to play the Bills in the super bowl and really liked the poster Liv used to show her support for her team. I had also chosen this assignment and liked to see someone else’s perspective of it.

Sound Track to Your Life

I may do this assignment next week! This post was great!! I loved that Sam included songs from different genres and playlists. Overall, a fun post and I think Sams playlist was awesome! Also – Who doesn’t love Fleetwood Mac, classic!

I love making playlists, and I like seeing other people’s music tastes!

Bad Photoshop

I thought it was funny

Bad Photoshop

who doesn’t love emo Mona Lisa

Lenore’s Lyrics

Meet Runa aka The Shadow

I absolutely loved the introduction to this character. After reading Cinder’s description I felt like I knew Runa aka The Shadow. All the way down to the look of the character, the story line, and the characteristics/attitudes/specific likes and dislikes. Overall, this was a great post and so far, this is my favorite Technoir character to meet!

Minecraft: Cherry Blossom Vacation Villa

This post is so creative and you can tell that they put a ton of work into this assignment. I haven’t played Minecraft in a while but I remember how long it took me to make a cute house, so I can’t imagine how long this took!

My Creative Journey: Week 3

I liked how the author was clear and concise with their thoughts on how the week went. It seemed like they had clear goals and were able to accomplish them.

Krissy’s House

I chose this post because me and this person have a very similar idea of where our characters would live, also the way they go in depth in this post really helps you vision their character. Side not I also like how the pink background makes the text and pictures pop.

Love is Embarrassing- Compilation Video

I would like to say that I do appreciate a good edit! I have seen the show “The Good Place”, and I also love Olivia Rodrigo’s music, so this edit was definitely fun and entertaining to watch! It was edited very well!

My Logo

I like that coni is using this opportunity to make something that will live long after this class and something that they can use in professional life after college! I love how well balanced this logo was and i think its a very impressive logo for someone who isn’t well versed in graphic design.

Vibrant Parking Deck

I thought this was a really cool way to edit an original picture and make it unique. I also love the vibrant color choice

GIF

I like the scene Liv chose to use for her GIF. It’s visually interesting and the colors are gorgeous so it’s just fun to look at. Also she said that it was her first time but it looks so good that I would have thought she was a regular gif maker.

Course Character

I thought the photo collage that Rylie did for their course character was so cool! The colors worked so well together and it was a cool way to visualize the character even more!

Me in Collage Form Except I’m not Me

I think the collage was really well made and it helps me visualize their character’s personality.

Daily Create 2

I like Sam’s use of impactful words to create and image that is also impactful to him. He took this assignment and put his own spin on it and it turned out really cool.

Say it Like the Peanut Butter

Neon Nexus Destination Poster

This poster was very detailed and took inspiration from other sources of media and the author made it their own which I really liked. It reminded me a lot of Guardians of the Galaxy which also fits the dystopian theme they were aiming to fit.

Destination poster

He made a cyberpunk themed poster for a city and I loved all the detail he put into it

Photoblitzer!

Loved it, I was a super huge fan of the moon one and the supernatural goat. I thought it was exactly what a photoblitz should look like!

Week 3 Article Reflection

I loved their reflections. They’re much better at reflecting than I am lol. And I LOVED how the photo was next to the text. How did they do that?!

Trading Card

I really thought their trading card was unique and cool. I like that they drew it out I think it added texture and coolness. I also love this persons website!

Contact me – Or don’t I really don’t care

This post was witty and engaging. I instantly wanted to read more after I read the title. Then I got a glimpse of what her character Evelyn is like. If I were to meet Evelyn, I would feel honored if I received one of her business cards!! haha And I would give her the most juiciest gossip ever for her news stories!… well, you see I’m very engaged and interested in Evelyns weekly posts and character. Great work!!

Wanted: have u seen this dog

Rebecca took an assignment that interested her and applied to her and was able to use it for a grade. She mentions in her post that she has many pictures of her dog but this one specifically matched the assignment. I liked what she did with the wanted poster and hoe she customized it

New Tattoo Who Dis

I voted for this post because I love the effects she added to each tattoo drawing! The blurring affect on the sword looks so cool so it was my favorite

poetry

I love poetry

Photoblitz

Even though they stayed in one place while being at work, I really liked the creativity of using what was around them to answer the prompts. It really makes you think outside of the box and use things in a different way than usual, such as the cord they used as a snake to portray a modern jungle.
