Week 10 and Radio Show Progress

This was a great and productive week. I participated in two Daily Creates and focused on the radio show for the rest of the week. I met with my group, and we seamlessly recorded our show at the DKC podcast studio. Since Finn is male and I have a fairly high voice, we decided to use an AI voice, which worked out well. We used SoundCloud to edit the show, which was perfect for this assignment because it allowed us to add music and audio clips. I had fun working with my group, and Iā€™m glad we found time to record this week. It was also nice meeting some classmates in person!

Here are the Daily Creates I participated in this week.

Week 9 Summary

This week had a heavier workload compared to last week. Working on the radio show has been a bit stressful in terms of timing, but Iā€™m confident it will all come together just fine. On the bright side, the Daily Creates were really enjoyable, and I had a lot of fun with them this week.

This weekā€™s summary will be brief in terms of details, but rest assured that the work is complete, and I put effort into each assignment. Looking forward to sharing our final show with you next week!

Assignments Completed for the Radio Show:

Audio Assignments:

Breaking News

Create a breaking news story. This should be fake news. You should create a dialogue and have an AI read it using text to speech. There are several free programs. One possibility is Colossyan.com. Mix in a news jingle to make your story sound legit. You can find some jingles on freesound.org. Be sure to give credit if necessary.

Be creative, funny, or serious. The choice is yours. Just make it sound realistic.

I used HeyGen for the voice because I wanted to keep the tone light and avoid creating a serious or upsetting breaking news story. Instead, I went with something I wish would happen in real life. After generating the audio, I exported it and brought it into Soundtrap. From there, I made a few minor edits to clean it up and added a classic news broadcaster theme song to give it a “news” vibe. Overall, it was a pretty simple process, but I think it turned out well!

1-800-kindred spirit

For ā€œCreate a Commercial,ā€ create a commercial using a video editor such as iMovie, Adobe, ect. In this assignment, you should aim to make a commercial for your radio show. In the commercial, you can create a whole new product or use one that is already out, such as an advertisement for Apple Inc., Nike, Walmart, etc. Try NOT to make it too long or else your viewer will get upset, limit to 10-30 seconds.

For our radio show, which explores dating in the tech-noir, digital world, I decided to create a commercial that fits the theme. I came up with the concept of a fictional dating app called Kindred Spirit, designed to connect people in a digital age. To bring it to life, I used HeyGen for the voiceover, selecting a tone that suited the futuristic vibe of the app. After extracting the audio, I uploaded it to SoundCloud for editing.

I added commercial style background music to enhance the atmosphere and applied fade-in and fade-out effects for a realistic sound. I also adjusted the volume levels to ensure the voiceover and music balanced well together. The whole process was fun, and Iā€™m proud of how realistic the final commercial sounds. It feels like something youā€™d hear on an actual radio station.

Radio Show Week 1

For the first half of the week, a group member and I were planning the storyline and structure of our radio show project on Discord, as we were waiting to get the whole team together. Since we wanted to keep moving forward, we decided to go ahead and plan the show. The concept centers on Eric and DK, polar opposites and unlikely best friends, who co-host a radio advice show. They tackle relationship dilemmas and current topics, and their contrasting perspectives create entertaining dynamics. We also introduced Finn, a socially awkward but successful CEO, who calls in for dating advice, sparking a discussion about the digitized dating world.

We spent the week outlining and scripting, with plans to record over the weekend or Monday, leaving the rest of the week for editing. Although we werenā€™t able to create bumpers or commercials yet, we focused on the scripting and promotion. Personally, I wrote a rough script and outline for the show and created a promo. We’re staying on track with our plan and will continue working on the project, aiming to have everything ready for submission next week.

Canva and Google Docs are the only tools I’ve used this week.

Radio Design Project

This week, we were tasked with creating a bumper, poster, or logo for our radio show.

I decided to create a small promotional poster using Canva. I wanted a simple design that relates to the tech-noir theme and our groupā€™s radio show, The Opposites. To achieve the look I envisioned, I used Canvaā€™s pixel effect to give the text and hearts a glitchy appearance.

Coming up with an idea for the poster was a bit challenging since I donā€™t see many radio show advertisements these days, so I didnā€™t have much to reference. However, Iā€™m happy with how the design turned out!

Week 8

This week was pretty simple, which I’m very thankful for since Iā€™ve been insanely busy.

I teamed up with Carson and Dakota for our radio show project.

I also wrote an idea for our group’s radio show. It was a bit challenging because I had to come up with a creative way for the characters to interact.

I participated in 3 Daily Creates this week:

Framed

Eric Little is a 22-year-old guy who has always led a simple life. He grew up in a peaceful suburban town and is the type of person who follows the rules, keeps his circle small, and thinks the best in others. He’s not the kind to get engaged in shady circumstances, but one day his world comes crashing down.

Suddenly, Eric gets charged with a serious cybercrime that he did not commit. The tale has been widely reported by the media, which portrays him as a proficient hacker who carried out a significant attack on a company system. However, Eric is clueless as to how he became involved in something so risky. He was framed for the crime by powerful forces and forced into a sinister plot that was beyond of his control.

As the plot develops, Eric’s life turns into a race against the clock to get his name cleared. Realizing that the world is considerably more crooked than he ever thought, he starts to lose faith in everyone around him. He starts to lose his idealistic perspective on the world when people he believed to be friends, allies, and even complete strangers appear to have ulterior motives.

There is more to the conspiracy that surrounds Eric than simply dishonest hackers. Corporate leaders like Finn Calloway, a tech CEO whose company is based on power and data, are affected. Calloway Systems, Calloway’s company, is involved in a cyberwarfare game where manipulation with huge stakes is common. Finn is a man whoā€™s always thinking ahead, and heā€™s one of the few who knows Eric is innocent, yet heā€™s forced to play a dangerous game of silence to protect his own empire.

Eric isnā€™t alone in this fight, though. DK, a laid-back car salesman with a knack for staying under the radar, gets pulled into the mess. Initially reluctant, DK becomes one of the few people willing to help Eric, even if it means risking his own life. He isn’t your conventional hero, but when the system has you locked down, the only way out is through the system’s own cracks.

The deeper Eric digs into the conspiracy, the more he learns that everyone has a price, and the world he thought was fair is anything but. From the mediaā€™s portrayal of him as a villain to the criminal figures pulling the strings behind the scenes, Ericā€™s journey is a harsh wake-up call. Who can he trust when everyone around him is out for something more than just the truth?

Week 7

This week was one of my favorites! I love designing, and we did a lot of it. First, I created a newspaper page for Hated in the Nation and wrote a little about it if youā€™d like to learn more.

We also got to design some propaganda, and I love the design I came up with and how I connected it to Finns tips. It was really fun to create and think about how to effectively convey the message!

For the character reaction portion of this week, I wanted to be creative. Instead of writing about how my character would react, I wrote quotes my character would say.
