“He had been a minor league pitcher until Joe DiMaggio and the dragons arrived.”
The line originates from page 43 in the novel, The Church of Baseball, by Ron Shelton.
This piece of history relates to the creation of the movie, Bull Durham, which takes place at a minor-league stadium of the Durham Bulls, an affiliate of the MLB franchise, the Tampa Bay Rays.
The author of the book illustrates the creation of how the movie was made and the people he met throughout the process, y’all should check it out, what a great read!
As we conclude this week, I have learned how to produce important propaganda to characterize what one is trying to get across to their viewers.
Creating my three daily creates for this week was an interesting task because it felt that they were different from prior weeks. My reasoning behind this was because they were represented as more of a pure status of imagery.
My Public Service Announcement I think turned out to be the finest work of the semester so far. The use of Jay-Z’s song “Public Service Announcement,” created a great sense of encouragement as well as discipline. iMovie was once again very easy to operate, but I think that is because I run off a Mac.
My propaganda piece was not too much of a challenge for me because I knew exactly how I wanted to not only tie my character’s life into it but also raise a real concern that San Francisco faces. I’m not sure if many of you follow the news but the Bay Area has been plagued over the past few years by an extreme amount of homelessness, which gives another reason for my use of it for the assignment.
To finish off this week, my character’s reaction to my classmate’s propaganda projects was interesting to work on. The piece I chose was fantastic, mad props to “Mustafa’s Thoughts.” Everything about this post I could relate Jonathan to.
After looking through a few of my fellow students’ propaganda submissions, one that Jonathan could react to is “Mustafa’s Thoughts.” My character would like the aspects shown through the poster. The simple color does construct that Aggressive Technologies will go through any measure to achieve what they must to be at full capacity.
Since Jonathan (my character) has moved to San Fransisco, considered the “Bay Area,” he has seen the homelessness rates in the city rise. The propaganda piece created illustrates the concept of this situation, hoping public policy will clear the streets and open the beauty of the city back to it’s original state.
The process was to create an image that showed people lying on the ground using deep.ai to generate an accurate image. After uploading the picture, I used Google drawings to add additional text to emphasize the portrayed propaganda.
To create something pure, it must be constant and clear of harmful substances. In my image, I wanted to show rain falling on top of the flower. I think this is as pure as pure as can be. This creates a sense of balance and clarity which one’s mind can slip away for a while into a state of calmness.
To start, I would like to introduce Jay-Z’s song, “Public Service Announcement.” I thought this would bring the PSA to life, along with my script. I uploaded the song to iMovie and then created a voiceover to allow listeners to be in tune with the audio recording. The PSA is about the concept of AI and it’s uses that impact many Americans. There are positives and negatives to AI and the companies who produce it, which are portrayed in the recording up above. The waves of the audio connects with my character’s thoughts on artificial intelligence, however, he must be careful of his thoughts, as they can have an impact in the work environment of Aggressive Technologies. Have fun listening!
For today’s daily creation, I chose Ed Sheeran’s castle on the hill. I chose this rather than Dr. Frankenstein because his song brings out many hometown memories for me. A lot of the song depicts Ed’s teenage years growing up which sparks my interest rather than Dr. Frankensteins creepy lab in a castle, lol!
The week started with the production of two daily creates. The first create was my blog post called “Stuck in 1945” and my second “Earthly Elements,” if you haven’t already, I recommend giving them a view.
Next, I decided to produce three of the assigned video assignments from the Assignment Bank. The first video assignment, “Winning = Championships,” comes from the movie Moneyball, which is a fan favorite among sports enthusiasts, for more info, check out my blog! My second video assignment, “My Dog Max,” is a real-life TikTok I produced with my dog Max, whom I’ve had since I was 9 years old, for all those dog lovers, go take a look! My last video assignment for the week, “Childhood Comedy,” comes as a childhood memory, as Tom & Jerry is an awesome show, y’all should tune in!! To produce all my video assignments this week, I used a list of programs such as Youtube, iMovie, and Apple Music.
To conclude week six of ds106, I did write about Aggressive Technologies and their ties to my course character, “Technologies Beyond.” I incorporated some new and interesting aspects to my character Jonathan that allow blog readers to experience his backstory.
As introduced, my character, Jonathan, lives near the San Fransisco Bay Area. His backstory starts with growing up in a semi-nice suburban household with both parents and a younger brother. Jonathan graduated from USC with a master’s in digital media, with a graduate degree in business law.
He started an internship with Twitter in the summer of his senior year of college and continued to work there for a few years while finishing his master’s. On the side, he came across as a young investor, searching the real-estate industry for additional income. This allowed him to make connections among various clients.
After completing a contract agreement for a top executive’s penthouse, Jonathan was offered a job at Aggressive Technologies, which is a multi-billion dollar tech corporation. They run much more than Jonathan’s mind could even imagine and when he did some research, he decided to accept a position as a digital media consultant, who makes contract deals with other companies that aim to discover the newest technology available. We shall see what Jonathan makes of himself in this new industry of commerce.
