Final Weekly Summary!!!
I can’t believe it, we’ve reached the final weekly summary. As you can imagine, the workload for my project took a decent amount of time. I do think my project did a good job of adding in different elements throughout the course while still being creative. In particular, my project included audio editing, video editing, and a little bit of graphic design. As always, the final week of class is the most work intensive, so juggling this project while managing all of my other assignments was a bit difficult. I am glad, however, that I was able to get this done a day early because I couldn’t have been able to finish all of the time needed if I had started tomorrow. You can find my final project here. While writing the script and the story for this assignment was the most difficult, I am always surprised by how this class unleashes my inner creativity. I am still surprised by how crazy my story ended up being and how each of the different endings are so different. I hope that all of the different endings give people incentive to finish each of the different storylines.
Final Project
I had fun while doing it, but I’m glad it’s done. I know it’d be fairly time intensive, but I did not predict that it would end up taking as long as it did. I am happy with the final product though, I had fun myself clicking through the different options. I think it did a good job of using existing characters in the class, like Dr. Oblivion, Isaiah Beacon, Sinclair, and creating new ones for the plot. The plot came fairly easily for the most part until the end when I was burnt out. Overall, I like how different each of the endings are. If you want to play the choose your own adventure-Aggressive Tech edition- yourself, you can do so here at the starting link of the game. To recap last week’s post a bit, the game has one central story arch that splits into two options and then each of those options split into two more options creating seven videos in all. The editing wasn’t so bad, I became pretty robotic at it after awhile. Enjoy!
While I would recommend reviewing the project with the starting link, here are all of the other links if that helps:
Week 13 Summary
It was nice having a lighter posting week. I am grateful to have had enough time to properly come up with a finally project idea that feels well fleshed out, and this will definitely make next week a lot easier. I am very excited for the idea that I’ve come up with and am excited to share the final product. You can find my project report here. I decided to work individually this time around as trying to coordinate a group project towards the end of the semester while everyone is super busy can be really challenging.
Final Project Update
I have decided to create an extension of the video project, but this final project will be different because it’ll be interactive, choose your own adventure story. The central storyline will have a representative from Aggressive Tech try to recruit you into joining their group. The representative will talk about all of the great opportunities and doors that get opened to members, but the one catch is that you have to try out an experimental program that’ll have an AI chip implanted into to you. The purpose of this top secret experiment is for Aggressive Tech to create a generation of human-AI hybrids that think as one to prove to dissenters that it is good for humanity. The viewer will then be given the choice to cooperate or to leave, and this is where the storylines diverge:
If you choose to cooperate, then you will be taken to the next scene where the implantation is shown and you are being told about your new abilities and you are given a cushy, highly paid job at Aggressive Tech. You are then given a new storyline option. Isaiah Beacon asks if you’d be willing to join him as a co-preacher at his church where you would receive fame and fortune.
- If you choose yes, overtime you become a messianic like figure and the power goes to your head and drives you insane. END
- If you choose no, you remain at your desk job but are then tasked to help with making advanced weapons, but you aren’t allowed to ask what for. After creating the weapon, you find out that Aggressive Tech is planning to start a war. You feel conflicted as your human side feel guilty while your AI side is calculating the efficiency of the weapon. END
If you choose to dissent, you are forced to sign an NDA and are threatened with legal action by Sinclair with some insinuation that you could be physically harmed if you go public with Aggressive Tech’s plans. As you walk back home you consider how you can rebel against Aggressive Tech while preserving your well being. You are then given a new storyline option. You get into education to warn future generations about the dangers of AI overreliance and fanaticism or you join the rebel cause.
- If you choose to go into education, you enroll in university and meet Dr. Oblivion. He encourages you to continue on your journey and serves as a valuable mentor. Twenty years later your students all love you and feel like they are well equipped to fend of the ever growing AI fanaticism.
- If you join the rebel cause, you find the leader underground and join the resistance. He tasks you with sneaking spyware into Aggressive Tech HQ whilst undercover. You are successful and the world finds out about Aggressive Tech’s plot to create AI superhumans. END
So how will this work? Once again, I will be using gooey.ai for the lip-syncing, Audacity for the audio editing, and Canva for the video editing. I will post all of the videos on YouTube. For the choose your own adventure aspect, everyone will start with the video of you getting recruited by Aggressive Tech. In the description, there will be two video links that correspond with your choice. This is how it will work for the other videos as well. While this will be a lot of work, now that I have a storyboard, I think it should flow pretty well I just need to be on top of it next week.
I was scratching my head for awhile trying to find an idea that was creative but also used the elements that were present throughout the course. I was looking for inspiration through other students’ ideas and I’d like to credit: https://tubbanoor.com/uncategorized/week-13-final-project-progress/ for the idea to make this project more interactive. Once I got the idea to make this project a choose your own adventure game the rest of the project came much easier.
Week 12 Summary
While the video project required a lot of time and effort, it was overall a very fun week! Starting with the daily creates, I was somewhat dismayed that there were more poetry options than I would’ve liked. The one that caused me the most trouble was the Eclipse Blackout Poetry as I had a hard time picking out words that meant anything. I then figured that a lot of poetry doesn’t make a lot of sense to me anyways so I went a little random with it. You can find all of my daily creates here.
My video project went really well! This time around, I was able to use tools that didn’t cause me any issues it was mostly just a tad editing intensive. I am very grateful that this assignment didn’t cause me to pull any hair out. I am also glad that I started this assignment a bit early because it did take a little time to put all of the clips together. You can find the assignment here.
Video Project
As I described in my video plan last week, my video project revolved around a debate between my character, Isaiah Beacon and Dr. Oblivion. The video starts off with Isaiah preaching about the dangers of anti-AI sentiment in higher education. He then says that he has set up a formal debate between himself and Dr. Oblivion. I decided to make the AI-version of myself be the moderator because it was just funny to me and made this more entertaining to make. After Dr. Oblivion and Isaiah both answer three questions related to the use of AI in higher education, Dr. Oblivion is the clear winner. Isaiah Beacon then says he will establish his own university to undercut the damage of secular education.
This project was super fun to make! The final product is very goofy and awkward looking but I think that this style just made the process more fun and I was laughing throughout the whole process, so to me it was a success! I didn’t really run into any technical hiccups, it was mostly just time consuming.
I used a few different tools for this project. I found an AI tool online called gooey.ai that added the lip sync animation. Using this tool was much easier than the wav.lip tool that I was never able to figure out the last time. All gooey.ai needed was the image and the audio and it produced the animation within a few seconds. I got the audios from a few different sources. For Isaiah’s voice, I used elevenlabs.io, which was the same place I got his voice from for the radio project. I used Narakeet for my robotic voice, and of course I downloaded the Dr. Oblivion audio for his voice. I used Canva to edit all of the clips together. I added the book flipping video and audio using their elements, as well as their clapping audio. I also used their background removal tool so I can add more environment appropriate backgrounds to each of the scenes.
Week 11 Summary
This week was pretty easy, I enjoyed checking out the radio shows as well as brainstorming ideas for the video next week. Starting with the Daily Creates, I especially liked being able to share a picture of my sweet work dog, Ginger:
You can find that prompt and the rest of my responses here.
For the radio show, I got to listen to the Radio Ravioli show, which was really well done. It was interesting to see the ways that their show was similar to my groups’ as well as the ways that it was different. This assignment was pretty easy as all I had to do was sit back and listen to their show. It really did feel like I was just listening to a radio show while in the car driving, which was nice. You can find that assignment here.
I also brainstormed some ideas for next weeks’ video assignment, and I’m excited for what I came up with. I definitely wanted to integrate my character as well as Dr. Oblivion, and I figured the best way to do this would be to set up some sort of debate between the two of them in an academic setting. The whole premise of this debate seemed very natural to both Isaiah and Dr. Oblivion, so it wasn’t difficult coming up with an outline. You can find that assignment here.
Video Plan
For general context, I plan on telling the story through a story book animation. So in between scenes, there will be a page flip. Here is an outline for the story:
- My character Isaiah Beacon will be on stage filming a sermon for his audience and he will go into the horrors of the secular education system against AI. He’ll preach against strict AI tool bans in college classrooms. He’ll then announce that he’s arranged a televised debate against him and a prominent AI professor about the proper use of AI in the classroom, Dr. Oblivion.
- Dr. Oblivion and Isaiah Beacon are at opposing podiums, and the moderator will end up asking 3 questions and they will each give a response and back and forth.
- Dr. Oblivion will come out as the obvious winner with cheering from the audience, and Isaiah leaves upset.
- Isaiah returns to his audience and warns them that the problem in higher education is even worse than he thought. He then unveils his plans for a new university, Isaiah Beacon University, that’ll properly promote AI in its curriculum.
- The end.
Radio Show Listening
I got to listen to the Ravioli Radio show and I thought it was super creative! I especially liked the setting of a live studio audience, which is something I never would’ve thought of, but I think it added a lot to the show. I also liked that the transitions, bumpers, etc. were more eclectic because it gave the show more charm. I thought it was funny that my character and Ravioli were somewhat similar as hosts as in the show was more about our characters versus the other hosts. Finally, I thought it was interesting that both of our groups kind of took the same approach to the question and answer format. A potential reason for this could be that the scripts were written similarly, with the host writing the questions and the hosts typing their answers in.
