ds106goals2

Let’s bring it back for a second.

I cannot believe we are already into week five already. I am feeling more confident with the course itself and posting on the blog. Going through the first steps of creating the blog, I had trouble with it, but now I am feeling confident with my content. I was reading my goals for week one and I do think I am still currently on track with the initial goals I set for myself. The biggest goal that I had was to tap into my creative side and make sure that it is reflected with everything I am posting. I would not change my current goal. I still want to continue tapping into my creative side and creating content that requires me to think differently. Being creative is not something that I typically do, and this course has been enjoyable because the assignments have allowed me to have fun with what I was able to create. From the daily crates and the assignment bank prompts, there is so much room for interpretation and letting the creative juices flow it has been fun and a bit challenging. I will say last week’s audio assignments were a bit difficult in the beginning for me and now that they were onto video, I am not sure how I will feel but one thing I am confident about is I know I will try my best to create something that I think is fun.

Wrapping up week four

Hello fellow students! In the beginning of the week I honestly wasn’t sure how I felt about the audio assignments. Having to watch tutorials, download more apps, and get the hang of using more platforms took a second to really get the hang of! At first, I wasn’t quite comfortable using Audacity but after playing around with the platform and getting familiar it got a bit easier and I used Audacity for all three of my audio assignments. I enjoyed doing the audio assignments the most this week because it was fun creating stories without sound and having the ability to let the creative juices flow.

Another aspect of this week that I appreciated was re connecting with radio. I said in my audio reflections blog post that I am someone that does enjoy the radio, but I dent go out of my way to listen to it much. I love the streaming music platform Spotify and that’s what I listen to my music on as well as listen to podcast. I was able to step back again and appreciate what radio has to offer the world. Connection, creativity, inspiration, different perspectives. The radio offers us so much that I honestly forgot about this week was nice being able to connect with something that I hadn’t thought about in a while. If you haven’t already be sure to check out some of my work below! Until next week fellow students.

Daily Crate 02/08/24

The secret place

Todays daily crate was to create a secreta entrance to a room. If you are someone thats been following along with all of my creations then you wont be suprised that I created this design in Canva. My thought process for this secreat entrace was something grand and gave castle vibes only the most elite can enter and its invite only. What is this secreat room for? Thats up for the imagination.

The power of a single voice

Audio Reflections

Im gonna be honest here I dont listen to the radio much anymore. Its not because I dont enjoy radio, in fact theres a few radio segments that I love and when im in office and hear the segments I always make sure that I am fully aware and paying attention. I’m some one that’s all about my Spotify playlist and podcast and that’s been my vibe over the years.

After doing the course work for this week and listening to Jad Abumrad video about “How radio creates empathy” I have a newfound view of radio. He pointed out in his video the immediacy and connection that radio offers and how one can feel like there being directly spoken to and that’s something that resonated with me. He also mentioned how everyone’s always says, “radio is played out” and how “radio should have been played out years ago”. I know I’ve heard that before and I am someone that doesn’t go out of the way to listening to the radio but whenever I do, I always enjoy listening and find myself excited to hear about the next story and segments. Radio can truly become a part of someone’s routine and a connection can be built from radio.

I think the Moon Graffiti podcast did a good job at making you feel like you were really there. Between the creepy music and all of the different sounds you heard. It’s easy to imagine it all playing it out in your head like your actually there. Which I think is the whole point. Using your voice and sound to paint the image in your head and they did exactly that.

Daily Bumper

One of the assignments for this week was to create a daily bumper. First, I had no idea what a daily bumper was, sit was fun learning about what it was and trying to draft up a script for what mine would be. Audacity is a fairly simple platform to use and being to able pick from freesounds.org was also easy as well. For all of the assignments to include this one I used freesounds.org. I wanted something upbeat and fun but with a chill vibe which is why in my audio there’s some fading in and out with the music. I chose my verbiage carefully because I wanted to make sure I highlighted the creativity of DS106 and closed it off with “leaving feeling good” because that is my way of connecting with the listeners. No matter what time or point you are tuning in you should always leave feeling good.

It’s your Oyster.

Visual assignment

For the last visual assignment, I decided to go with the prompt to create a place just by using sound. Can you guess what place I chose? Let me know in your comments!

Im sure the image and the title is a giveaway!

But can you tell?

Visual Assignment

If you haven’t been able to tell already, I have enjoyed using Audacity and mashing the tracks up as well as trying out the different effects that are available. For this assignment it was to choose three commonly used sounds that you hear everyday weather that’s at school, work, commuting whatever your day typically consist of and to mash it together add effects to it and essentially make a track that doesn’t like the original. Three things that I typically hear on an everyday basis is coffee being made, rolling desk chairs, and printing. I chose those three sounds mashed them together in Audacity and added a few effects to the track. Let me know if you can recognize any three sounds!

How do you all like to relax? Visual assignment

We were assigned to pick three visual assignments one of them I decided to do was create a mashup of relaxing sounds. I chose sounds for freesound.org and I had a lot of fun with this assignment. I would like to highlight that not all of the sounds have the same vibe each sound I went with had different tones, beats, and instrumentals it was really cool putting it all together.

Can y’all hear me? Let me turn the volume up!

We were assigned to create a story with no sound. I think it’s kind of funny when you think about. I chose my sounds from freesound.org and my inspiration was that exciting feeling you get when it’s a Friday and your about to leave for the day from work. The story starts out with exciting typing finishing off a task for the week and closes with the upbeat music because in this story it’s time to start the weekend! I hope you all enjoy.
