For this week I chose to complete the Video Assignment TikTok of your pet. This was really fun to create and I think it turned out as good as it could have been. I have never made a TikTok before but I am an avid user. It was fun to experiment and this did take a couple of tries but I think it came out good. I learned how to make a TikTok video and how to choose a good sound to use for the video. I used the camera to my advantage and tried to stay on beat with the music but it was harder than I thought because I think there was a slight delay, not sure. I learned how to cut the video because the music didnt start until a little later so I had some empty clips of just my cat. Overall It was fun to experiment and I have a fun backstory I created for my cat Bayvah Kitty and Dr. Ravioli.

This gorgeous Feline is the one that got away in Dr. Raviolis eyes. Her name is Bayvah Kitty and he grew up with her when they were kittens, this is one of her many modeling videos as she is a very infamous model. He turned her into an immortal because he was in love with her and they were also best friends. She unfortunately has never loved him the way he loves her and Dr. Ravioli has been trying to fill the empty void she left when she moved to Hawaii to get away from him. She is the reason he loves mopeds because she got him one on his 46th birthday. He has a room in his mansion dedicated to her and their life together before she left him for a Parrot. He has been heartbroken for centuries and has been focusing on himself and his wealth ever since. He will always keep Bayvha in his heart and will always think of her when he sees a moped. Even when he buys one for his current wives. All of the wives he has had have all been sloppy replacements for Bayvah, he has been constantly trying to find “the one” even thought his heart is still tied around Bayvah.

Firstly this week has been awesome! I love Black Mirror and was super happy to see we would get to watch one of their episodes. It was really interesting reading and watching everything assigned this week. I revisited my goals and didn’t really change anything, I think I am on the right track to completing my goals and cant wait to keep learning. My goal revisit can be seen here.

Next, for my video essay I chose the movie Avengers: Age of Ultron. I used the first fight scene with Ultron and used Clipchamp to make the video essay. This was a super fun assignment and I think it came out really well. My video essay can be accessed here.

I completed two of the daily creates this week and as always it was super fun. I got to be creative and think about things I don’t usually think about. I have been commenting a lot and found that my character Dr. Ravioli has an admirer. They have asked me to join their group for the radio show and I am very excited to see how it turns out. I know this will be a really fun assignment and I cant wait to start working on it with my new group members.

When I first joined the course and saw how different it was from my other courses, I was very nervous, especially with the hefty workload for the first week. However, I have figured out it is more fun than stressful, and I am excited to continue this course. I want to learn about new digital tools, which I have already started to accomplish this week. I have never made a Domain before, and I was very scared to get it wrong, but I see now that it is somewhat easier than I thought. I still have a lot to learn and I need to figure out how to make my Domain look better than how it looks right now. I am also interested in AI and how it works, so I am excited to learn more about it and experiment with it. Overall I am very excited about this course and cannot wait to dive deeper into the internet world.

Personally I don’t think I would change anything about my goals but I have definitely started to complete them. I really like how my Domain looks and I have become a lot more comfortable with it. I have also learned how to use Audacity, Clipchamp, AI photo generators and so much more. I really like how this class is going and I am very excited to continue learning about more technical tools and working with other people.

For my video essay I chose the first fight scene with Ultron in the movie Avengers: Age of Ultron. I had to screen record a youtube clip of it since I dont have youtube premium but it was pretty easy. I used Microsoft Clipchamp to make this and used AI text to speak to make the voiceover. This assignment took me a while to complete just because I wasnt super familiar with any video editor. But this was a really fun project and I think it came out pretty well. I cant wait to experiment more with this app and with video editing.

This week was all about audio! I learned how to use Audacity and even created my own Sound Cloud account. I really enjoyed this week and cant wait to dive into the next.

Firstly I listened to Moon Graffiti and gave a deep analysis for how sound is used and how it shows emotion, visuals, and scenery. This audio story was extremely detailed and I cant imagine how long it took to make. I had a lot of fun listening to it and sharing my thoughts on what I thought meant what and how I visualized different sounds. This can be accessed here.

Secondly I created my Radio Bumper for the Ds106 radio. This was very fun and I got to start learning how to use Audacity while also doing something fun and enjoyable. I decided to use my Jennifer Coolidge impression for this because I thought that would be fun and creative and really annoying to hear on air. My radio Bumper can be accessed here.

Next I listened in on Monday to the Ds106 radio with a group of us from class while we discussed audio techniques in the story we listened to and how we were thinking about different things happening. This was really interesting and fun to collaborate with other people in the class including our professor. we listened to the story Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep and my reflection on it can be accessed here.

Fourthly I was tasked with creating a story made of sound. This was really fun to accomplish and it was cool to get the hang of Audacity through this task. Unfortunately I did add a small clip of dialogue before I understood there were not supposed to be any words but I figured that out too late and wasn’t sure how to fix it without having to re-do the entire thing. I think it came out really well and I am happy with what I made. It can be accessed here.

After that I started working on my three audio assignments. I first started with the “Chrome Music Labs” assignment where I had to make a song with this technical tool. This was really fun to experiment with and I will be using it again in the future. This can be accessed here. The second one I completed was “Consult with your Doctor” where I got to ask Dr. Oblivion a question and got to record my character Dr. Ravioli asking him that question. This was really fun as I got to experiment with AI voice generators and I got to create a voice for my character. Unfortunately they did not have any Greek accents so Dr. Ravioli is British. This can be accessed here. The third and final one I completed was the “Breaking News!” assignment where I got to make an audio recording of a news broadcast. I used the AI text to speak generator and had a lot of fun with this assignment. I got to delve deeper into my character creation of Dr. Ravioli by giving him backstory and showing how important and wealthy he is in this universe. This news broadcast can be accessed here.

My three daily creates this week were super fun to participate in especially the silk threads project, this was really fun to complete as I got to be creative with a beautiful form of technology. I also submitted a photo of a hornbill in its nest that it encloses itself in to keep its eggs safe while the male goes and feeds them, I chose this photo for the secret entrance daily create. For my last daily create this week I completed the “Find the one-armed, half-brained, miniature version of what you do.” and submitted a list of things I can’t not do without feeling unaccomplished for the day. That list was.

1. Read a few pages of a good book

2. Go for a walk
3. crochet

Finally I started brainstorming for my Radio show with other people in the class. I know this will be super fun and I can not wait to start this project. I came up with two Ideas that I think would be super fun to do. This can be accessed here.

Immediately starting to listen to this audio, I could tell there was something technical going on based on the beeping and sounds of muffled voices that seemed to be coming through a telephone or recording, in this case, a walkie-talkie of some sort. When the spaceship crashes on the moon, you can tell it crashed because of the sound of the impact and radios being cut. They use a lot of different sound effects to show the mood of what is being talked about. More serious music plays when they talk about more important and serious discussions. You can tell who is who with the dialogue, especially with the narrator, not only because of the voice difference but also because of how clearly the narrator is depicted with no environmental sounds, only background music. The characters are in an environment filled with sound, may it be organic or technical. The music also gives us senses of unease and intensity. There is a lot of detail in all of the background noise, such as the pictures being taken and the moon sediment they mess with. Some important aspects of the story include the dialogue, giving us context to what is happening which shapes our imagination into something more concrete and understandable.

The sound creates an atmosphere by having background sound or music indicating different emotions and scenes. You can tell when something is more serious or dangerous based on the intensity of the music. When we hear the clock we understand that their oxygen is running out and so is their time alive.

With Abumrad’s ideas with video, he talks about how we as listeners are “holding the paintbrush” by coming up with our own thoughts and interpretations of what is going on audibly with the story. He mentions Co-Author ship with figuring out together creates a sort of intimacy and empathy. We have to fill this gap of picturelessness together. Throughout this audio, I was imagining what could be happening, how they were moving, and whether they were looking at each other, the moon, or the Earth. When the main characters mention how beautiful “it” is, all I can imagine is them looking down on the earth from the moon and understanding that Earth really is beautiful, even from afar.

Instead of Dr. Phil it is Dr. Ravioli, he helps people with their personal technological overuse issues. An example would be someone who is deeply in love with a character AI and thinks they are real, Dr. Ravioli proposes the solution to delete the character Ai and gain 2 million dollars worth of mopeds or continue their sad lonely digital life. The other participants in this radio show could be guest advisors and the ones being interrogated by Dr. Ravioli.

We could also just do a get to know you podcast where the characters talk about their lives and things they have experienced sharing wisdom with the worlds. There could be a prompt such as “young love” or “biggest mistake in your life.” The characters would share stories and discuss how things happened to them and how they feel about things that have happened to other characters. Everyone would be included and would be able to come up with even more backstory to their characters and really develop them into being.

On Monday 2/5/2024 I tuned into Ds106 radio at 8pm Est where I listened to “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.” Those of us listening joined the Ds106 Discord group so we could share our thoughts on what we heard throught the show. This was a really cool experience and I really enjoyed talking with the community in the Discord chat and discussing what was unique and interesting about the story. Since this was a story solely based on audio there were lots of extra sound effects that really made you feel like you were experienceing the story as it was happening. The story is set in a post-apocolyptic world where the Earth has been devistated by nuclear war. Many of the humans from earth moved to other planets and they created androids to help serve humans to perform tasks of labor. The main character Rick Deckard is an android bounty hunter who has been tasked with destroying the rogue androids who hide amongst the humans. The andropids were made to look indistinguishable from humans so it is pretty hard to tell the difference between robot and flesh. Rick tests the suspected androids by performing phsychological tests on them to see if they show any human emotions. Rick explores themes of identity, morality, and the consequences of technological advancements while dealing with his own and others internal struggles. In the Discord group chat we discussed what some of the sounds remined us of and funny references to other films or books. We talked about the use of sound used as imiagery and how it is used to show us specifically what is happening within the dialogue. The story can be listened to below.

For my last Audio Assignment this week I chose to complete the Breaking News! Audio assignment. I chose to use https://www.naturalreaders.com/online/ to be my news host to talk about the misconduct Dr. Ravioli has committed. For my second Audio Assignment this week I chose to complete the Consult with your Doctor assignment. I had Dr. Ravioli ask fellow Dr. Oblivion what his favorite color was since Dr. Ravioli is such an avid orange lover. I used https://www.naturalreaders.com/online/ to create Dr. Raviolis voice so he could ask Dr. Oblivion directly. Dr. Ravioli enjoys Dr. Oblivions presence and will continue to get to know him and will try his best to convert him into an orange lover.
